  1. So, your ready to label a 14,15,16 year old kid as a racist for chanting build the wall. I hope your children are angels when they get to that point otherwise that might take a terrible toll on you. I'll say it again, kids do dumb things.

He was a senior so old enough to know better. This type of " sweep under the rug " and make allowances for bad behavior is pretty much the reason for the decline in our society from people of all different backgrounds and socioeconomic backgrounds.

  2. I think what needs to be remembered here is that these kids are kids. Justification for their behavior, no. But kids do dumb things.

UMM, No. He has been named and I won't share that, but he is a senior and at this age he should be a leader to the other students. There are several videos with different view points, some with sound and some without. The ones with sound are rough to watch. They are mocking them, you see one kid moving around in a Indian like dance, the boys were chanting and the smirk on the boys face said it all. "I am entitled, arrogant, and you are beneath me." Just my opinion and not the first, fifth or tenth time that I have witnessed very poor behavior from the boys of this school. So no, kids being kids is an excuse, boys being boys is an excuse. A poor one at that. Raise the bar of expectation. I'm sure a nice donation to the school will show up real soon and smooth everything over.

  3. This opening surprises me since Stoll was so young and only had the job 6 years. I'm curious why he decided to leave. Any info out there or is he looking at another job possibly?

Who are some candidates here? Will they in house and move up the jv or frosh coach or go outside? I think this job is in for a rough patch for foreseeable future . Coming off back to back seasons of 12-17 and 11-18 things and also losing I believe 3 starters and their top player by far it could be a rough ride for awhile. Plus district wise next year Highlands brings everything back basically and Newport presumably brings back their top player for 3 more years and was 19-11 last year.

He is getting married and even stepped down from AAU last yr. Nothing sketch about it. Simply a time issue. Speaking to him he states he isn't looking to leave NCC as a Teacher.

  4. Haven't been to a bball game all year. Was going to go the NewCath v Highlands last night but I would've been late even if there were tickets available. Anyone know if Highlands will be selling pre-sale or will we have to get there early and wait in line like the old days? not wanting to stand in the rain, but my son has been wanting to see a game.

No pre sale, wait in line. Although they did allow the line inside of the building.

  5. Highlands replaced their floor a few years ago after 60 years of wood floor laid on concrete.

I was shocked the first time I went to HHS after the gym remodel, the visitors side of stands have no walk way. Meaning, there is a walk way, but both teams chairs sit in that walk way and its extremely congested and very difficult to walk out of the gym during a game, especially when they are playing a rival.

  6. Don't see myself being a drama queen I threw out some numbers and said why I think a multi million dollar field was risky. You came back and told me I was wrong about my numbers and quoted numbers and then did some false google search that was also wrong. Sorry I went to the actual school website and backed up my statement with actual numbers. Now you say my statement of trend to 250 students is quite a stretch? Is it really? 2010-11=425 students , 2017-18=311 students. 7 years and a loss of 114 kids or 27% of students . So you can't see it going to 250 students on this trend and it's a reach? Rumors are the next class is really gonna be small and beat the record of lowest freshmen enrollment ever just set. I'm not looking to argue but I made a statement of why I thought it was risky and you called me a fool. I think my facts support this is risky. Now back when school was booming 7 years ago with 425 kids I would have had a different answer.

I didn't say you were a fool. I said you were a Drama Queen, I said a "quick" Google search, I found 3 diff enrollment numbers for this school year, so went with the LOWEST, so no false Google search. My son was apart of the 2010 State Champs his senior year. The Diocese does very little to help us, it's all parent support, alumni, staff.

  7. I quoted a number that was given to me by someone that I felt would know. And so I passed them on, I know we've had several transfers, I personally know 6 to be exact this school year from Highlands ,Holy Cross, and Ryle. In fact two of them we're athletes and could not play Varsity Sports due to transferring and could only play JV.

My point was not about the football field whether they do or don't build one, but you're being a bit of a drama Queen. If we had 327 students in 2016-2017 and our lowest freshman class ON RECORD for 2017-2018 and our enrollment only dropped by 15. Your original comment said we could potentially drop to 250. That is quite a leap. No the ACT score is not 12, not sure what that means. We have a 30+ plaque and every graduating class adds 4-8 names each school year. Approx 75% of each of the last 3 or 4 graduating classes have had GPA above 4.0 each , and averaging out over 4 yrs approximately 27 students per graduating class with a 5.0 or above. These are estimates since I am not home and can't double check. But every graduation they print out all of this info. The last 4 yrs we have also stayed around 5 million in scholarships each yr. Not bad for such a small school. We don't care that you call us small because it just makes our accomplishments more impressive. Yes , we tend to be the red headed step child when it comes to the Diocese we don't get new sports complexes like St Henry or help with million dollar renovations like BB, yes I am aware they did alot of fundraising and I am not putting them down. Good for them, it looks great! But if there numbers are that much lower than ours, then how was that feasible?

  8. Here is what I mean by a risk. Enrollment is now at 320 say it continues to drop gets to the 250 range. Not really a stretch to think this since price of a catholic education is getting more expensive and its becoming a big sacrifice for families to afford. Some it will never be an issue others its becoming tough. Ncc probably at its best was at 425-450 kids. Thats a lot of money lost from 175-200 kids of a years tuition. Now say some builder goes to a game on that hill sees this beautiful view of the city and says I could sell some high dollar condos and luxury apartments up here and make a ton of money. He offers big dollars for this property and lets be honest this property is very valuable. What if the property is sold and the football field which cost one guy millions is now condos 1A-12A. How would this guy feel about his donation being sold and gone 10 years from now. I'm not buying that there is no way any schools are possibly being closed or merged. In Cincinnati this coming fall of 2018 you have the merger of Mercy and McAuley coming. Who would have thought that would happen. If you have 2 schools in brossart and ncc who used to have 400 or so kids and they now have 250 or so who can guarantee one doesn't close and they combine.

You are wrong about enrollment. I posted up to date #'s above.

  9. You guys are cracking me up, in 2009- 2010 attendance was 425, 2010-2011 we had the largest freshman class on record of I believe 112. In 2016-2017 we dropped down to 327 students, the very next year 2017-2018 we had the smallest freshman class to date 54 students. Our current attendance is 362 students. So it increased 35 students ( even though record low freshman class) . NCC isn't going anywhere. It will ebb and flow like any other school. We are small and yet our school has so much to offer. They get a lot of one on one. You are not a #.

  10. Does NewCath still offer free tuition to any student that lives in Newport that can’t afford the tuition but wishes to continue their Catholic faith?

No one gets free tuition. They do offer financial assistance that is done through a 3rd party company. I hardly consider this a inner city school, the % of assistant students or students who qualify for reduced/free lunch is very low. They have several options on how to pay including over 8 mths. Books/fees is approximately 10-12% of tuition so on top of tuition you will pay approx $780 in fees/books, additional charges for Dual credit and AP courses. They have been clearing land since last year. But rumors are always swirling. The school had a state of the Art "college" style library with full length extended windows finished early in the school year, all new Chrome books for each student ( 2nd yr for this), updated and new Wi-Fi, new roof, plans for new sound system in gym and gym upgrade.
