I guess Jesse James will have to reevaluate after this weekend. In fairness, except for Butler there is much parity in almost all of the top 15 on this list

In Lexington Butler looked like a well oiled machine. It seems everyone that plays knows exactly where everyone else on the court is. They are fun to watch. Is it possible Mercer is not as good as they think they are? They seem to feast on teams with sketchy ball handlers but when forced into a half court game and a good opponent they have a tough time generating offense

Did Heart play zone this time? In Lexington they tried to play man. That was not a wise decision and probably hurt their chances of winning. Also the asst coach for Heart seemed to be out of control on the bench yelling at players, It was obvious the players began tuning him out. I would have a hard time letting my daughter around that man. I am surprised the head coach allows it to happen.

AAU basketball is way overrated in my humble opinion. Colleges take the easy way out and attend these events but learn nothing about the lids they see except that they may have talent. There is so much peer pressure among the kids to play for fear they may not have an opportunity at the next level if they do not play. Also, parents and kids get false expectations as they try to hold onto Division 1 dreams when most kids should not even think about D1. Sadly, the only ones who win are the AAU coaches as they line their pockets like carpetbaggers while sucking up to the elite players parents and promising anything to keep it going. and many of those coaches criticize the high school coaches when it is the high school coaches who really make a difference in the kids lives.

I think Ryle needs some time to get everyone on the same page. But they could be pretty decent by March. As far as scrimmages go, it does not matter. coaches are looking to find many things about their own teams at this stage

Interesting group of games at this event
-
Why does everyone get so bent out of shape about transfers?
-
Chris Jefferson was an asst at Butler and went to Holy Cross last year. It will be interesting if he can get the Lady Colonels competitive again. Lots of politics in the 8th region
-
This team can really get up and down the floor. GRC will be a tough out but Scott can give them a good test for sure
-
Webster Co could be the favorite this year. Henderson may be down this season
-
This team has one of the best kept secrets in the state. Her name is Alexis Nelson. She is a junior and has had an injury plagued career thus far. Her team is not competitive vs the top competition, but this kid is very good and could play for alot of the top teams in this region.
-
Mercy will always be a factor. well coached and solid kids. Baisch does a good job of adapting to the type of team he has
-
Male will miss the older Green's leadership this year. Browning needs alot of maturity. She is often reckless during games. Sexton and Harbison should assume leadership roles. Both can score at will. I hear they have some young talent as well to keep their depth at a high level.
-
Lauren Deel and Hayley Free will have to carry the scoring load apparently

Frankly any of the top 4 teams could win this region. There are plenty of tremendous players in this region. The Cats' Pause ratings are laughable. No way Assumption should ever lose to KY Country Day or Shawnee. Don't know much about Presentation. One of their players Stevenson is being hyped. How does she fare against quality competition? I heard Central has a new coach. what happened to Franklin? As always, this region will be a war.
-
Simon Kenton should roll through this region. Ally Niece is special
-
Chris Souder had one of the most exciting teams in the state last year. I think they should be heavy favorites to win the 12th region.
-
was impressed with Highlands this summer at UofL team camp. I think they will be much improved this year. Holmes is deserving of its ranking. frankly, the rest you can throw into a hat and pull out a different winner each night. Lots of parity. The coaches will earn their pay this year.
-
The 6th region is Butler's to lose. They have most of the pieces back form last year. Larry Just is the best coach in the state in my opinion. Bullitt east, even without Williams will be a force. Lindsay Duvall is a special player and can carry her team a long way. Mercy will be a factor but losing their floor general Laemmle (now a walk on at UofL) will hurt them. Glad to see Anderson is back. She has an incredible work ethic.

Personally, I think the key to Sacred Heart is the point guard Ashlee Harris. She has an excellent IQ for the game. SHA had a huge meltdown in the region last year vs Male when Berger tired to do it all in the 4th quarter. Berger can be much more effective if she learns to play coming off screens to keep defenses honest and then once she gets the ball she can use her talents to score or set up her teammates. If Berger can mature into that role SHA can be unstoppable because of all the offensive weapons they have. I also hear that they have some young talent to go with all those juniors and the soph Harris.

Doesn't Breckinridge Co have an excellent point guard? Might be a good matchup against the Stevenson kid from Presentation
-
Someone mentioned the Scott kid from Sacred Heart. She is extremely athletic but her basketball IQ needs to improve. She tends to get lost defensively and often tries to play one vs five at the offensive end. She also plays volleyball and I have heard she is very talented in track and field events. She could be a diamond in the rough if she can grasp the team concept.

The 7th region is loaded with good players. No one has mentioned the Elder kid from Assumption. I was impressed with her as a freshman last year. Amy Ballard and Aniah Griffin from Manual could make this list.

Conner / Scott predictions (1/10)

this was an excellent game. It appears the 9th and 10th regions are coming into form. I was impressed with the way Scott pressed the pace and continued to change defenses. Conner settled for long shots and the impatience was the difference. Conner seemed to tire from the middle of the 4th quarter and OT. The 9th region tourney should be a doozy when you add Highlands and Holmes and Ryle into the mix. Girls basketball is fun to watch in this part of the state.
