  1. Google Seattle Seahawks Tackling Drills. This is a technique that we are using in the FTJFL(Blue) alongside Headsup Football that we also teach. If it is working for the Seahawks at the Pro level then it will work at all levels. Just my 2 Cents!

Couldn't agree more. Pete Carroll started using this technique back in his days at USC. The concept is "eye the outside thigh" based on the sport of Rugby. Happy to hear youth coaches are adapting to it!

  2. Tackling in football isn't just a Highlands issue. I've noticed it at many levels, pee wee, high school and college. I think it has to due to the limited contact in practices which is related to and most importantly the concussion issues. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but coaches are playing it safer these days. However, tackling can be taught the right way with good technique and reps. But it involves proper headgear placement, eyes up and wrapping up the opposing runner. Again, it's not just a Highlands issue.

  3. We could learn a lot more if you'd invite us to the film review you and the other dads have. I'd love to be a part of that. Again, PM and let me know when and where! I'll buy you a "coke" and we can discuss some solutions. It will be fun!

I'm still waiting for him to answer my question about how many of the 16 numbers he listed actually played in JV games based on the dads film night. Guess I better not hold my breath.

  4. So had a chance to watch some film last night with other father's and I have to say some of it is comical. There's really no rhyme or reason why we are 1-6. I read the Ft.Thomas matters article and in that they are using every excuse they can on why the team is losing. So we decided a couple of us would get together and watch some film. The first thing that sticks out is you bring players in and have them make a play or 2 then remove them, Second playing boy's like this does nothing hence the reason why we could be losing? Several player's stuck out while watching the films and they are 33,54,55,41,74,52,12,59,35,5,10,44,8,24,27,and 98 which is a beast. and I wonder why some are playing JV when they are obviously great players. We do not need these boy's on JV however they could be a huge asset on Varsity if used from what we have seen so why are they not being used at all or little at best? That would be the question I would be asking anyone who is in the know with this Varsity program?

Of the 16 players you listed by number, which ones are also playing JV?
