Watch out for CAL next year, or more so the year after. Freshman QB Carr was excellent, freshman WR/safety/everything Wright was a game-changer, multiple freshmen with serious playing time and their 8th graders won the state championship. Oh yeah, junior TE/DE was top notch also..

No score prediction, will be a good game between two well coached teams. With that said...Mayfield wins the internet, DeSales wins a close football game.
-
Met some Pulaski parents and players this season...humble defending champs. Nothing against North Laurel...hoping for a good, injury free contest!
-
The Ads will drop anchor and take shore leave to do a little bunny hunting and it will be s bountiful hunt. TP's looser, Somerset!
I was thinking the other day that a KY high school "Leonard's Losers" would be great, thanks for the throwback TP! Now get me outta here Percy...

Two solid teams, well coached, district standings on the line, with enough recent history to spice it up...doesn't get any better! I give the Colts a slight edge for finding ways to prevail over all but one opponent, but you could argue CAL has a slightly tougher schedule. LeFors wouldn't have given the nod to Carr if he wasn't something special so the Colts better mind the CAL air attack.
This is one of those games that will probably pivot on a few key plays then reward the team that plays within themselves and blocks out the rivalry hype with victory. Should be a good one!

Good on ya bigshow and toothpick...Glasnost!

I appreciate your opinion, but I feel like it is more frustration than anything else. How about when Sims ran FC's running back down from the opposite side of the field, causing him to cut back, where he was then pounced on by a 6'7", 270 pound DL who chased him 50 yards down the field? How about Brothers, who left the game temporarily with cramps in BOTH legs, but came back and chased down Kidwell from behind after the long pass in the 4th quarter when the game's outcome was really no longer in doubt. Even Coach Davis praised the team for not giving up. Again, I appreciate your opinion but I disagree 100%.
Agree with your disagreement and applaud your use of specific examples of high effort plays. Upon further review, however, your defensive lineman is a more svelte 6'7" and 231 pounds.:lol2:

By that same token though:
Well played! Of course the sky isn't falling on the Ads, Cards, Colts or Centurions but these are weekly rankings and should reflect who is playing the best at the moment grounded in the demonstrated performance in the previous weeks. Particularly impressed with the Mayfield performance after losing their two way starter early in the game.

I will believe Danville deserves to be in the top 3 when I see it. It is insane to think Desales is not in the top 2 in 2A. We aren't two time defending state champions for nothing.
As many have stated before, the past is the past. Weren't there some comments about lack of effort by DeSales against Fern Creek and them needing to find themselves? I don't believe CAL or Danville have been shutout and don't recall anyone questioning their effort. Not saying DeSales won't be in the mix at the end of the season but right now you can't have it both ways...
-
Fern Creek is playing hard nosed football right now. Other than the standout Kinslow they are not huge but play solid as a team and fly to the ball on defense. Ran into some Pulaski football families over the weekend, classy folks...best of luck to them. With all they have returning from last year they should be a tough out.
-
Excellent diagnosis Dr. ATL, bonus points for your bedside manner this week! Praying for a healthy return to all those injured players out there.
-
Mayfield is # 1. Just pummeled the 2014 5A state champ runner up this weekend (granted a different team that 2014 but..........) Desales puts up no points and keeps #1 ? making the comparison on losses now...Last weekend.......Mayfield takes 6A to OT on a ranked team..DeSales scores no points on a ranked 5A team....its not rocket science.
Agreed truecard, fully expected Mayfield to rightly retake the number one slot this week. Not so sure DeSales shouldn't drop to 3 or 4...don't think that CAL or Danville have been shut out this year, have they?
-
Interesting combination of rankings info. How much will the Apollo game tell us about OCath? Also, no one doubts that CAL will be in full form come playoff time.
-
None entirely and most all some
This!

I certainly fell into the Trinity trap...if you don't come from a historical powerhouse program (Trinity, Highlands, Mayfield,...) you could have a tendency to give them the nod even with some information to the contrary.
-
Lamarius Kinslow (sp?) for FC is physically very mature...haven't actually seen him play football but he is a solid bball player. He is posting solid football stats this year. I thought the senior running back for Ballard was similar in build to Kinslow but after seeing the Ballard RB, the nod probably goes to Kinslow. Agreed that the DeSales / Fern Creek matchup should be a good one and peel back the onion a little further for each team.
-
Wise men might stick with the DeSales coaches mantra...if DeSales is playing Mayfield it means they have both made it to the playoffs (semi-finals?). Also (DeSales Dad and others) do not dampen the rampant speculation and chest thumping with specific information! All in good fun...
Anyone know why Mayfield doesn't post stats on Maxpreps? Maybe I just don't know how to view them...
-
Good point about the current defensive stats, imagine it will turn around quickly!
-
Bowling Green/Owensboro will have a huge impact on rankings, Highlands has an opportunity to start their climb back toward the top of rankings (IMO..haven't seen Ryle), and Fern Creek should be a good matchup with Butler...don't know if Fern Creek has enough big boys up front. Either way these games should be good preparation for the playoffs.
-
Nice work ATL...how much of CAL's perceived drop is attributed to starting a freshman QB? Programmatically they currently seem to be up there with Mayfield (without quite the lengthy storied history), DeSales or LCA. Don't know the current depth chart at CAL but expect them to be in the playoff hunt regardless.

The only one I feel fairly confident in is 1A.
For the sake of entertainment, here is my "Confidence Percentage" per class
1A:
Beechwood- 50%
Paintsville/Pikeville/Raceland- 15% each
Field- 5%
2A
DeSales- 45%
Mayfield- 40%
CAL- 10%
Field- 5%
3A
Boyle County- 25%
Belfry- 25%
LexCath- 20%
Central- 15%
Field- 15%
4A
Johnson Central- 35%
South Warren- 35%
Ashland- 10%
John Hardin- 10%
Field- 10%
5A
Bowling Green/Highlands/Pulaski County/Owensboro- 20% each
Field- 20%
6A
Male- 30%
Trinity-30%
Scott County- 15%
Simon Kenton- 10%
St. X- 10%
Field- 5%
I enjoyed the way you gave us the insight into how you came up with your rankings. Would concur that Beechwood is the most clear cut, but Trinity seems fairly dominant at this point...is the current rivalry with Male what keeps you from giving the nod to Trinity? Or is Male that good...

Similar to Butler game, DeSales has to watch out for big plays. Even more so than the Colts previous opponents, Ballard has another level of size and speed (including several contributors from perennial power bball team). Ballard coaching is very good, this should be a close one.
