sounds like the CAL freshman QB is indeed making freshman mistakes, but it is early the season I expect them to be at full speed when they face the Colts. I hear that they still have their top defensive player from last season out recovering from some type of surgery and lost another one in preseason to knee injury. And oh, yeah, another 2A team playing up in class. Seems like Desales, CAL and others are at least stepping up to get experience. I applaud them all for playing up! Cannot wait for the Colts vs CAL game. Always a good one

24-14 CAL. Defense is very good and it appears that their offense is starting to gain momentum. Another 2A win!

Fair statement. Dont know much about S. Spencer from IN, but a few tough teams there

CAL gets a big home win against a 6A Eastern, Desales gets a win against 6A Butler and the race is on! Heard the Morton kid is back this week and should make a huge difference on defense. Let's go 2A!!!

agree that Mayfield has a very impressive 1A history and deserves the accolades that go with that. However, to say they deserve a #1 ranking when moving up is a bit much. Like saying a light heavy weight champ deserves to be #1 ranked in Heavyweight division before winning a bout. The #1 from previous season should be ranked #1 preseason in their class.

Agree with this overview. When a 2A team plays a top ranked 6A team and hangs with them despite having two of their top players out of the game, you have to provide ample credit. CAL should maintain their ranking in my opinion, one spot after Desales. Gentle reminder guys, whoever wins the Desales/CAL match up usually wins the state title. Gaining experience against larger, stronger teams will only pay off later in the season. Kudos to the CAL coaches for putting it all out there to better their team.

Absolutely. Great showing. would have been interesting to have seen how it would have played out if CAL had two of their best players in the game, who were out with injury. Go 2A!

Hate to see players out for suspensions. Especially the opening game. Either way, nice win for the Colts

the CAL/Desales rivalry has turned into one of the state's best. Two very well coached teams that are generally overlooked outside of 2a. When these teams are both healthy, no larger school would enjoy seeing them come to town.

Colts look like they are already prepping for playoffs. defense is crazy good.

Word is that CAL just lost top lineman for the season and top defensive player, Cody Morton is recovering from some type of surgery. CAL might not be 100% tonight, but I am sure they will be fine. Dont underestimate 2A

How could Desales not be ranked #1 preseason after winning two straight titles....Should be Desales then CAL. That district IS the 2a district to beat
