  1. It is simply undeniable that the best athletes in GC don't play football. GC will NEVER win without these athletes. It's not about the kids on the current team. I know it's tough to hear since they are only 2 games in to the season. I know you won't understand, but the only thing that matters is getting W's. Most of GC is so ignorant about how the Kentucky Football system even works that they won't notice. The best class for football GC had was the 2013 class with Davis (who transferred to Ryle), Caudill, Dills, Robinson, Haar, etc. there were some legitimate athletes on those teams. You know what they had in common? Most of them played other sports. Very few of the current football team play other sports. Football just isn't a big deal in GC and nothing will ever change that until you get athletes out there. GC can't even recruit inside the school district. They need to get people to WANT to be a part of something bigger than themselves. Nobody wants to get their butts kicked. It's a waste of time. Yeah it sucks for the kids who are there now, but they WANT to be there. They love football. They just aren't on the same level athletically as the other kids in the school and it has always been this way. Look at the classes of basketball and baseball players that have gone through the past 7-8 years and all of the genuinely great athletes on those teams. Those are athletes. Outside of maybe 1-2 guys per class, none of them are athletes.

Unfortunately, there is still not enough athletes all around to make much of a difference, it would be better, but still not enough. Team speed kills us and when we have it, we don't have size, vice versa.

About the transfers, numerous kids have moved on to different schools prior to high school because of football. Not gonna name names as it's not my place to say.

  2. Yeah, that kids working stuff never happens at Greenup County, Pulaski County, Bourbon County, Mercer County, Wayne County, Bell County, Caldwell County .... you know, those county schools that have top ten ranked programs; there aren't any farm boys or kids working instead of playing football in those places. Only at Grant County. :wacky:

It's the Grant County mentality, excuses, excuses, and more excuses.

  3. Disagree, it is up to the parents to explain to them why they left the district, its not hard to understand.

You do bring up another point abiut parents not bringing them to practice, heck even games for that matter. Its a growing problem in all sports. No commitment level to anything, this started years ago and is now surfacing in young adults as well.

I'm an adult and I don't understand it and will never agree with it. There's not one kid on this team that's happy or thankful about leaving the district (my opinion). They could go 10-0 and it's all pointless as we would never know where the team stands.

  4. Leaving the district only hurt them even more whether anyone will ever admit that or not. I would much rather play teams that will blow us out rather then play teams we should beat and still loose. Some would say that's pretty idiotic to say but I bet quite a few of these players would agree, all you have to do is listen to them. By leaving the district, no matter what your intentions were, the impression given to the youth is that they were given up on and simply aren't good enough.

To get better, it starts with the the actual youth teams. The biggest problem with the youth programs right now is the parents. Kids can't get better if their parents don't bring them to practice.

  5. Ok so you would agree Grant Co isnt winning a state title right? Then what does it matter?

Chances are their not but being in a district actually gives you a shot, it gives the players something more to play for. One thing can be said about every Grant County team I have watched or played for, their tough and don't back down from anyone but I can no longer say that now and it's not the players fault. So say they rejoin the district after 2 years, what happens then if blown out? Unless some major changes happen and schools move classes, Grant will be right back in the same district. So why does it matter? It's about pride! Former player or current player, you should always have it.

  6. They were in the district with Highlands, Cov Cath, Holmes, and Scott for two years, followed by Highlands, Cov Cath, Oldham, and South Oldham.

I would say that every player that chooses to play will be motivated but what are we teaching kids these days? It's ok to give up when it's tough? Typical Grant County fashion when it comes to football though. Definitely not surprised by the decision. Yes the district record is terrible and what they have been doing, I can't say it hasn't been working, we just have never had the athletes to compete. When we have had the size, we got outran, when we had speed, we lacked size. Both of those scenarios were rare however.

  7. I'm sure the players are thrilled for this move. What motivation would any kid have now? To get better you have to play teams that are better then your team, not attempt to play a weaker schedule just to get wins that really are meaningless. Say a team goes 10-0, how do you celebrate that? A moral victory? We're talking three district games and a playoff game that would be rough so 7 other games that can be used to schedule winnable games. Leaving the district was never even an option nor discussed back when Grant first entered the district with Highlands and Cov Cath in the early 2000's.

More kids have moved then the ones listed but I'll leave it at that, no need to list names.

  8. I can say as a former player at Grant, blow outs or not, this is a slap in the face. Basically the school quit, dropping out of district is not going to make the team any better. It's not going to help "build" the program, and will only push away more good players as they will "move" north. You all would be surprised how many former Grant County kids are playing for different Northern KY teams and I don't mean transferring from high school but before high school.

  9. I wouldn't think the officals would either however the first one was like ok it happens but the 2nd one just looked like it was done on purpose. Didnt seem like there was any intention to miss the kicker.

Good game for Grant though, they had there chance to win it but couldn't hammer it home. Dixie held on and there running back had a nice game. Looked almost like a pin ball out there if only Grant would of wrapped him up. Dixie is obviously down this year but was still a nice showing by Grant to keep it close.

  10. Cov. Cath should definitely win and I'm obvisouly a Grant fan but I am disappointed to an extent with there schedule. It does them no justice. I said in another thread that there trying to build confidence but at the same time when. Your losing games you should be winning that is most definitely not a confidence booster. I would rather get beat week in and week out by teams that should beat us rather then lose to teams that we should easily be beating. With the chance of holding a team like cov cath or highlands to limited points is more of a confidence booster then playing against small schools and winning a few.
