  1. That one game scenario is better than any evidence you can show me that would change my mind. There may be a couple players better on Matt’s and CKY. But, I don’t think either team has the depth the Defenders do.

The players off that Defenders team have been winning in this state for years. Most of them grew up play and winning my in Cincy as well.

You tell me why those other two teams are better (despite losing)

  2. That rumor has been there for two years now. I like it better when Tom was there. But, KBA isn’t going anywhere. When it’s gone then I’ll eat the crow.

Give the refs credit. In many games they pulled teams in and explained, one hand is NOT a foul but two hands will be called a foul.

Btw, I have No doubt the best team in 10thbgrade won it all. Those kids have been winning since the day they picked up a basketball.

For the most part as youth players they were all winning all over Greater Cincy. Probably the most unselfish group of kids I’ve watched this season.

  3. Indiana Elite is the cream of the crop in the Midwest. Great organization with super coaching and player development.

Indiana Elite provides the most exposure on the best team for the least amount of money. These kids get an all expense paid experience to compete at the highest level.

However, at this age it is not about player development. They have a combine weekend early in the season where the team is together for an entire weekend. They install all of their stuff. That is basically it.

One big problem is Greater Cincinnati doesn't have an Elite program like this. Many of these Kids should stay local. But, there hasn't been a group that can keep the kids together. The 2020 class in Greater Cincy has kids going all over to play. If they'd just join forces there'd be an option.

The problem is the shoe companies haven't recognized this region and supported a program.

  6. congrats to the top 5 or 6 kids on the list who I have gotten to see this season. Those kids can really play. And congrats to all the others who play in highly competitive environments & tournaments and are judged against good competition rather than drills/skills competition or nominated by influential schools and coaches. some of the 'end of the list' kids play difficult schedules and will be better because of it. Hard to judge whether a kid is any good when he dominates low level competition' date=' but struggles every time he faces good teams. check back in a couple years and see where these kids are. interesting to see some of the other "lists" from a few years ago with the 2018 & 2017 kids.[/quote']

I'm not really sure what you're saying.

There are two kids in the top10 that don't play club level ball and don't go to camps etc. One of which averaged a double figures at the varsity level as an 8th grader from the low post. While others in the top 10 are playing against a multitude of different level opponents from the 8th grade~JV level. Then there's Justin Powell who played Varsity and plays at the highest National Level for The Atlanta Celtics. He hasn't even played club level ball in the state of KY since he was in the 6th grade.

All of these kids are all facing a diverse level of opponents.

As I look at the bottom in the Receiving votes list. I see a kid that is a 1 or 2 guard may never be taller than 5'10" and barely made the "7~9th" Allstar game in last weeks Rick Bolus camp. Yet the the 6'4" 180 pound Freshman MVP is not even listed. Likewise, there's another 2020 kid low post kid that recently made an Allstar in the high school division of an exposure camp..... Also not listed.

    Basically what this means is...

The list is good for the kids that got the exposure. But, that's about it. I commend the list for being pretty accurate for the most part. There are probably another 20 kids in the state worthy of being on the list. But, the kids that are on the list are all pretty good players.

  7. McGuire. developed 0 kids

...but like most coaches they are developing fine young men for the betterment of society.

This is a pet peeve of mine.

People think AAU coaches are responsible for developing kids. This is ridiculous!

He is volunteering his time to organize and run a team. (Both he and Skinner do that well)

He has maybe 4 hours a week with his team. That time needs to be spent molding 13/14 kids into a unit.

Coaches have zero control over players outside of practice. 75% of kids are not whiling to WORK on their game when coaches/dads are not looking. It's a fact that the kids that work out of the love of the game are better.

Several boys at the age of 14 start to have a different "want". The social scene becomes a big issue for many of these boys and they lose the desire to work. It's much easier to develop younger players than older players. We invest our time over years then one day. They stop showing up.

In college there are entire development groups/training staff. Usually they are hired as a third party and not considered part of the coaching staff. They are former players and usually in their 20's. They constantly have to teach drills using the "tell, show, do" method.

Each player requires 6~8 per hours/week of specialized training focusing on their weakness.

Brad Redford and Kevin Duncan are two of the best trainers in greater Cincinnati for boys. However, each one has a different MO. Kevin is a great trainer and "Develops Players". However, his team's are average because all he does is trains them. He doesn't emphasize the 4 hours per week of team. He also can't travel and play in good events because he must stay local with his various teams. His team are composed of kids that he trains. Therefore, the quality of player is not consistent on a given team. It's IMPOSSIBLE to focus on both. Brad on the other hand doesn't coach a team. He trains and develops and doesn't coach. I hear he may be taking a lead trainer role at one of the local academy's. If he does it will be a great set-up because they will have coach hired to coach and he will train.

I have heard it before. I've had parents leave my team for greener pastures and every-time they say the "Lack of Development". They are blinded by the "Lack of effort" their kid has when coach is not around. I can name kids on local AAU teams that I have told on multiple times. I will help you create a plan. But, you have to ask for help and you have to do the work on my time.

Most of of us are parents to multiple kids, husbands, full-time employees and VOLUNTEERS for our basketball teams. We sacrifice our time, our energy and our money so these kids can play.

But, I will tell you this. We are all developing good young men that will better society. We are not the ones hiding behind stage names and ripping people.

    Charles Barkley said it best.

"The Internet is where idiots go to feel important!"

  8. Two Bad, I don't have a dog in this fight either way. But, if you really want to put your opinion (strong opinion) on the subject, how about putting your real name down so you can get full credit? All of these opinions on here about what's best for him are pretty silly unless you are him or his father. I think everyone needs to leave the young man and his family alone to do what is best for them.

Just considering the two options. I don't think the NCC experience is any better than BW and it probably cost $4,000/year while BW can't be anything close to that.

If you're going to pay the big money??? Why go to NCC when he could go to CCH and play with a class of the ages? That class would have arguably three of the states top 20 2020 players. With Jefferson in that group it could compete for an AAU State tournament title.

  9. I agree with SSS... Big difference. Rec vs. AAU at SOAS' date=' maybe not a huge difference. But, you take that same rec team and put them in an actual "AAU" or select team tournament, and it's a big difference in competition (usually). With that said, AAU is merely a term that is thrown around by most people who are referring to "select" teams. AAU is an organization that sanctions there events, ranks their teams, provides insurance, etc. The "AAU" at Soas is not actually sanctioned by the AAU (last i had been told), it's just a term used to say that it's for more select teams. With that said, usually teams in the AAU league at Soas, are usually more competitive all around. As example, I know of 3rd and 4th grade teams in NKY that play at Soas and dominate... Put them at the state tournaments for the first time, and they struggle. Just my experience. Also agree with more practice time, and usually more invested people.[/quote']

You are 100% correct. SOAS just uses the term AAU for the Sunday league. In fact they don't even use the new AAU age rules anymore. SOAS rec league is an amazing promotion of basketball. What Perry does for the game is extraordinary for the game in the fact that hundred of kids are playing basketball.

However, the Sunday AAU league is equal to the 2 level of competition at SWOH. Good teams at SOAS tend to get hammered outside of there.

It's a great place to start but not a great place to grow beyond school level basketball.

  10. At his age it's not a big deal or difference. Sports of all Sorts AAU could be compared to Rec. As they get older real AAU teams are tournament teams and typically play in leagues due to conflicts in schedule.
Believe it or not it really is a huge difference. SOAS your son only gets 1 hr of practice per week. Last year both 9U Divisions were won by 8U AAU kids. I think this year there is another team of 8U 2nd grade AAU kids also beating everyone. However, that same team has been beat every time by another AAU team that doesn't play at SOAS. But that being said. Your son has plenty of time to grow and develop. Get him with the right group and his game will grow leaps and bounds. And to top it off your cost/game will go way down. You'll spend twice as much and get four times as many games and about five hours of practice/week.
  11. It is a huge issue up until the kids hit puberty. At that point kids level off pretty well. But, like Playmaker says. The date is completely wrong. Summer birthday kids are at a huge disadvantage. Last year I had 4 kids whose birthday was between 7-1 and the 8-31 cutoff. But were considered too old for 13U none of them were ever held back. The thing that bothered me was only one kid played in games after he turned 14 and he was the smallest kid on the team.

  12. Maybe he will be like a lot of these kids and coaches in AAU and play on a few different teams. He will just show up when he is available. Coaches add different kids all the time to play tournaments in an effort to win games & stroke ego instead of developing kids.

That might be the case here because I know The Louisville Magic isn't playing every weekend.

Unfortunately, sometimes teams don't have their "regulars" available and need fill ins. Its always a step backwards when that happens so I don't who's ego gets stroked.

  13. Who's all with the Louisville magic. I know Zach Bentons is playing with them

Matt Cromer, Colton Fraley, Amari Taylor, Mahki White, Jake Sloan, Bryce Flatt, Eli Roberts, Logan Bates. I don't know the kids name but he's from Glasgow and is probably the most physical imposing kid I've seen at this age in a long time. I don't know about Zach Benton. But possibly Joe Benton and Reece Smith also. It's definitely one of the most talented teams in the state.

  14. Who are the bigs coming in to CCH next year besides Mayer? I assume Greene is more of a 3' date=' the way he gets up and down the floor, but there are some decent bigs at other schools (Centers, Huddleston, Salter). Who matches up to them if Mayer plays up?[/quote']

    Centers is Point/2 guard.

CCH Freshman are loaded next year.

Off the top of my head

    1 Grant Disken

    2 Jay Jackson

    3 Mayer

    4 Neil Green

    5 Lucas Jones

I'm sure there are others. But, this is the starting of a solid AAU team. I don't expect anyone to hang with them.
