  1. Conner scored 3 runs without the benefit of a ball hit out of the infield. They were very aggressive, forcing Dixie to make the play after the play. That strategy paid off.

    Henschen was huge in relief.

They seemed pretty aggressive against cov Cath too

  2. Conner came ready to play from the get-go. Cov Cath did not burst out of the gate in the same manner. Cov Cath did battle back to tie it in the fourth which does show some character in my opinion. If some bounces go the other way, cov Cath might have pulled it off. Both teams had great seasons and had really good chances, but with a one and out format, it is who plays better on a that night and Connor played better on Monday.

  3. Losing a lot, I believe they only have one senior (Robby Case) for the 16-17 season. There is really only one upcoming junior (Joel Devadason) who can make an impact, he got some varsity playing time on a senior-packed team last year. Lots of sophomores and freshmen who play and will have a decent team when they are juniors and seniors, but only one or two played JV last year, and very young, looks like it will be a tough year.

  4. I don't think the HHS win versus CovCath was a major upset at all. Actually if CCH would of beat Raisor that would of been a major upset in my book..CovCath has very average pitching imo so it didn't matter who pitched for them..

I agree that it was not a huge upset. I do think Cov Cath was the better team but I think Highlands got hot at the right time and Cov Cath ran out of gas late in the regular season. I don't think Mayer should have pitched when Cov Cath has a set of quality pitchers in Pitzer (who could probably pitch somewhere if he wanted to or play football), Young (signed with Transylvania and no-hit Dixie this year), and Armstrong (signed with Thomas More and didn't allow a hit against Conner for six innings earlier in the year). But still, I don't think who pitched for cch mattered as Raisor completely shut down Colonel's offense. Highlands deserved that win and just outplayed Cov Cath.

  5. I really think the KHSAA should make all the districts have the same format. Augusta hadn't won a game all year until districts and really had no business being there. I watched them play a regular season game, they had no business playing in a regional tournament. It is also not fair to teams like Mason and Bracken, who while they obviously are not the best teams, certainly deserved to be in the regional over Augusta or St. Patrick. Blind draw districts could really turn to disaster. Look at the 35th district for example, Cov Cath and Beechwood could draw each other and have to play in the play-in game, then Latin and Holmes could draw each other, and then the winner of that heads to region. Luckily, that's a seeded district.

  6. Glad to see Latin was able to put up a pair of runs. It's good for the program IMO for them to be back in district play. Congrats to Holmes for getting the victory.

Latin looked decent for the first inning and a half. They were hitting the ball and scoring and definitely gave Holmes a scare. There is definitely some potential in what they have. Holmes just hit the ball a lot and found holes and Latin made a few errors (which will go away after a few years of development).

  7. Latin scored two in the top of the first, then Holmes plated eight in the bottom half. Latin came back and scored three in the second, then they fell apart. Langguth went 2 for 3 with two runs for Latin, Damico had a two RBI triple for Latin, Micah Gray had a line drive single to left, and Toby Gray made a diving stop to make a force out at second for Latin. Dylan York had a triple for Holmes, and I believe it was Jashaun York at short, but whoever was there had some nice plays. Holmes plays Beechwood tomorrow at Meinken. Good luck, Bulldogs.

  8. Latin was down 11-3 after 5. They scored 4 in the top of the 6th to make it 11-7, then tied it in the top of the 7th. In the bottom of the seventh, Augusta had the winning run on third with one out, but River Carpenter struck the next batter out and got the next guy to pop out. In the eighth, Micah Gray drove in Jake Langguth to make it 12-11, then Dylan Damico and Gray would both score to extend the lead to three. In the bottom half, Eli Tarvin made a clutch play at third for the first out then Carpenter struck out the next two. Carpenter pitched the 6th, 7th, and 8th and collected 7 strikeouts and earned the win. Langguth scored four runs. Gray had 6 RBIs. Michael Elmlinger also collected several hits for Latin. Latin gets their first win in two years.

  9. I thought McGinnis was an infielder. Where were Heppler, Maile and Mayer?

McGinnis struggled defensively in the infield last year so they moved him to outfield where he was much better. Heppler is almost recovered from an injury I believe. Maile I believe has a hamstring problem but he did pinch hit against NCC, but what position does he play (first?). Mayer doesn't start, if he even dresses varsity, I think he might be on JV.

  10. Not sure if you want to throw Ludlow in that group. Under their new coach they have put together a couple good seasons. Last year they could compete with anyone and in fact came within a out of beating Beechwood for the regional all A. I have not seen the other schools... only to say that Latin has to play younger kids due to most skipping grades as they enter.

Definitely an obstacle for Latin sports, and also low amounts of baseball players at the school I believe.
