  1. Guess everyone will know who you are.

I am for having a good time but don't make an butt out of your self there will be young kids there.

Ummm, I personally don't care if a grown man has a couple of drinks before or during a ballgame, but you guys are taking this too serious. It's actually just kind of a running joke with us that he must get a little tipsy for us to win. It isn't like he is doing Jell-O shots and shouting obscenities at the players.....usually.

  2. This game presents an unusual challenge. Instead of getting drunk on a Friday night, I have to get drunk on a Sunday afternoon. I have been strategizing and gameplanning this and am confident I can get the job done. GO BIG RED!

If you need help, hit me up. I'll donate to the cause, because so far, you have been dead on. When you get drunk, we win and hey, AA is for quitters, and we don't know what quitting means in Mayfield. What say you Mayfield brethren, can we all pitch in and see to it that MayfieldFan is absolutely hammered at kickoff? The players will do their part, we need to do the same. We all have to make sacrifices, so what is a few dollars from each of us when MFan is ready to sacrifice his liver for a win. It's time we all stepped up, This is STATE after all. #doyourpart #kill a liver

    GO BIG RED!

  3. I expect another tough game this week, for the third week in a row for the Cards. This playoff run has been brutal. 2A was loaded this year and I don't think anybody was surprised by who the final four were. All four are perennial powerhouse programs and neither team will run away with this one. Do the Cards have enough gas left in the tank to get it done....I say yes, but it will not come easy against NCC and if their heads aren't right going in, they will get beat. Mayfield by a score.

  4. One last thing, I will also say that I was not sure who would replace Beechwood on our schedule. The Beechies are a team and fan base we have grown to respect very much. I think we have found that in Desales. Very classy program and we look forward to many more wars with you in the coming years.

  5. You also have to consider the fact that even our elementary football program is considered part of the coaching staff and has been coaching our little league program for decades. We start em young and bring em up in the system playing alongside the same boys they will play with until they graduate. It builds a bond and level of trust that cannot be understated.

  6. With all the kudos to Mayfield's coaching staff, how long has the bulk of the staff been together? What makes them such a good staff?

It begins with the head coach. Coach Joe, the son of a Hall of Fame coach, Jack Morris, who many of us old timers on this board played for. So Joe has not only been around the game his entire life, but has been around Mayfield Football his entire life and it means as much to him as it does to any fan or player. He is also smart in that he surrounds himself with other great coaches, most of whom will eventually be successful HCs in their own right. I'll be the first to admit that I didn't know if Joe could live up to the reputation his Dad had built, but will also be the first to admit how wrong I was. He is an OUTSTANDING coach and future hall of fame inductee just like his Father.

  7. GREAT football game. Much respect for Desales, they were what I thought they would be: disciplined, well coached, and BIG! Mayfield showed once again that heart alone can win you football games. The Colts D pursued and closed on the ball very very well and the QB is a Monster! The adjustments Coach Joe and company made after getting dominated in the 1st quarter cannot be understated. In fact, I would say Heart and Coaching is what won this ballgame for us tonight. Simply a fantastic ballgame and I suspect we will be seeing Desales on a regular basis going forward.

  8. Nothing personal to Rville. They have earned my respect over the last few years as they gave us good games in District play for a change, but I have to pull for and pick Beechwood to win this one. They most definitely have my respect and I think most of us from Mayfield will miss our annual match up with them. Good luck to both teams, but I'll take the Beechies in this one. They have been on that stage too many times and will not be in awe of Rhea stadium (although it is a cool place).

  9. I don't know anything about Murray's line, but even the 6-A schools we played were talking about how big our line was. RG and RT over 300, RG is 315 and agile (pulling guard). Center is about 230-240. LG about the same as center. LT is 6'7", not sure of his weight but I would guess 250-260. D-line is a little smaller but not much. We've got big boys up front. We have honestly had some issues with good D-lines, but the coaches have worked on this endlessly the past few weeks. The same CAL D-line that ate our lunch the first time around got absolutely manhandled by our guys in the rematch. They are the key to the game in my opinion.

Question: are we playing Desales or the Chicago Bears? That is a HUGE line, and you are correct about the line being the key. It always is. We have some talented playmakers in space, but if they can't find a hole to hit, it's about as good as having a Ferrari in rush hour traffic. Obviously, our line is nowhere near that size, so we rely on speed and technique. We are accustomed to playing big lines. We rarely play any small schools before district play, preferring to go up against the big boys from 3-6A, but I don't think we have faced a line that big this year. Luckily, heart isn't measurable in pounds or inches. Our boys got heart. I can't freaking wait for this one. This has the making of a GREAT game.

  10. I agree with toothpick. It is gonna be a wet sloppy mess. I expect several turnovers and momentum shifts and a close final score in the end. I honestly don't expect either team to put up more than 3-4 scores. Two good defenses playing hard in the mud and two rowdy fan bases cheering them on. It's gonna be cold and wet, but should be a lot of fun. Good thing the young men play the game, not those of us on this board or somebody would get shanked. It has gotten nasty on here since I last checked in. Wow.

  11. LOL, the only thing I WILL predict at this point is one fan base or the other will be eating a big ole plate of crow. Lots of trash talking between both fan bases. I love my Cards and believe they can win this one, but being somebody who splits their time between Mayfield and Louisville, I do know and respect Desales. With that said, the thing most people outside of Mayfield don't understand is just how much football means to this town it's fans, and the players which is one reason why we often win games we shouldn't. This is a very small town that doesn't have a lot going for it other than good hard working people and MHS football. War Memorial will be rocking Friday night and the players will be ready to go. It's the night the seniors have dreamed of their whole life - their last ever home game with a trip to the finals on the line. They will be ready to play. The wet field will neutralize our speed advantage somewhat, but nothing will take their hearts out of this one. I expect a good close game, but in the end, just like last night, they will find a way to get to BG. Best of luck to both teams and Desales fans, please be careful on the way down. Looking forward to this one.

  12. I got what you said slammer. I felt the same way. There were some calls in the secondary that left me scratching my head, but never felt they decided the outcome of the game because they went both ways. There were several flags thrown, but felt most were the right calls and they did not influence the outcome of the game.

  13. Hey Card fans can ya'll give us some places to eat. I'm sure well be hungry when we get there.....for food and football.

As far as local in Mayfield, I am not a fan of chain restaurants, so my favorite pre game meals are

Mid Town (not a fancy place by any stretch, but still a long standing iconic greasy spoon. Good BBQ, burgers, dogs, and shakes.

Majestic- my favorite pizza around. Good buffet too, but I always get the pizza. It's a Greek owned restaurant, so if you like Greek style food, this is your place.

Los Amigos- typical Mexican restaurant, but good food and environment and it's clean

With that said, if you want a real treat, leave a little early and stop off in Grand Rivers (you will drive right by it anyway) to visit Patti's 1880s for the best pork chop you will ever eat. If you've never been, you need to give it a try. Fantastic environment and the food is even better. Good steaks too, but the 2 inch thick pork chops are just awesome. Think country version of Lynn's Paradise Cafe on steroids....except, Patti's didn't mysteriously shut down over night, and the food is better.

On a side note, Somebody will likely tell you to have the Hot Brown at Chow 45, but since you live in the land where it was invented, you will just be disappointed.

  14. I don't like the weather forecast for Friday. Maybe I am wrong and hope I am, but the field will likely be a sloppy mess if the forecast holds out. That can neutralize our speed advantage somewhat. Regardless, it is at War Memorial on Thanksgiving weekend, which is a tough task for any visiting team. It will be a close game. No score predictions from me. Two very good teams who pride themselves on defense in the semi finals.....it's gonna be a slobber knocker. Love it!

  15. Outstanding Football game! Pretty sure the officials had more yards than either offense in this one. Both defenses came to play. Happy for the W, but much respect for the Aces. If these two teams played 10 times, I believe it would be a 5-5 split. We don't see teams as well coached and disciplined as ours very often. OCath played solid fundamental football, making us earn every yard we got. It wasn't that our offense played bad, just that their D played that well. With that said, our D stepped it up tonight as well. Knowing how potent the Aces offense was, I was really nervous about this game, but the D played lights out, led by Hurt, who played with tremendous heart and determination. Would like to see the stats from this one. On to the next big hurdle when Desales comes to town. Go Big Red!
