  1. If you mean Huddleston and Salter they were playing Varsity with Highlands yesterday at Mason Co. Not likely.

I didn't mention any names in that post. I said that BW was a potential destination for a couple other kids. And, I forgot, maybe I should check in with all the experts on BGP about these top level kids who have played 150 games for me in the last 12 months for what their HS basketball plans are......I talk to these kids several times per week, and spend weekends at tournaments with them. They have played more games for me than they will play in their HS careers, so I kinda do understand what they are thinking....which coaches they like, what schools they like, when they want to play with their AAU friends, and what they are capable of doing.

Back to Caleb, the plan has NEVER been locked in to go to NCC. It was an option. Just like BW was an option, just like another school was an option. All the rest of the BGP community was full of conjecture because he showed up to an open gym or two with some NCC kids, because he played rec football with a few NCC kids, because he played rec basketball with a few NCC kids.......the other 75% of the time he spends with his AAU teammates and his BW friends. (Kinda funny to go back and read all the experts "guarantees" about where he was going to school."

  2. Have heard that BW is still a potential destination for a couple other kids that can play. That island might have some inhabitants. They won't be there for team camp, but if things align, this group could become the 2nd best team in the 9th in the next couple years.

  3. Good grief......here we go again!

Maybe there will be a press conference and a National Signing at the end of our AAU season when he announces. And, until then, his mind could change a bizillion times. Nothing wrong with keeping all options open. But, he will be with his AAU coaches and teammates for the next 5 months, playing over 70 games and spending lots of travel time with this group. I will let everyone know if he is doing his BW summer homework! :sssh:

  4. Until school starts, and kids get enrolled and show up on the first day of school, I'd be careful about speculating who will be playing at what schools. I would not be surprised to see several kids moving around and wind up places you might not have guessed. I think there are 3 Catholic schools and 2 Independent schools that are always going to be in play for some football and basketball players, especially when you consider the academics. It's nice to make the FR team, but will suck when your son gets cut during his SO year. Or, has to sit for 2yrs, before he gets time during his senior yr.

I was at Villa and watched Austin Sweeney and Tyler Bezold play grade and middle school ball. Sweeney was by far the better player. He went to CCH and was good as FR. I think he made All Tournament team in CCH FR tournament. Playing time after that has been limited because of competition. Bezold went to HC, got great playing time, and will probably be 1st team All Region. Sweeney on the other hand has a State Championship ring.

Tough choices for some of these kids that want to play, and are good enough to play at some of the other schools.

  5. Green, mentioned by Clyde, is going to be very good. He is long, athletic, and has an improving jump shot out to 16' - 18'. He has a high motor, is a very good offensive rebounder, and challenges shots inside. He is still learning the game, but has a chance to be really, really good.

I like Mayer as well. I'd love him to join my NKY Legends team & join a few of his potential CCH teammates. He is a very good offensive rebounder and is a big that can handle the ball and create mismatch opportunities as necessary. I have also seen him be passive on offense against other physical players.

As much as I respect Clyde's opinion, I think getting to play against other high-level players is important to a kid's development. When you have to exercise your skill set instead of just physically dominating the opponent, that can make you a better player. I don't know the AAU schedule Mayer has played over the last year or two, outside of 2 games against my Legends team. But I know that Green has improved tremendously by playing against kids 3" - 4" bigger & quicker than him in the post. I am not comparing the two as players, because they are different skill sets and will play different positions. I know they have guarded each other in school games because they are the biggest kids on their respective teams. But, they will be different HS players.

Regardless, CCH will be reloading with players as talented as these two. Although, I don't think Mayer or Green will burst onto the JV scene next season. I think playing together at the FR level will do them both good. I think getting to learn the physical play on the defensive end is an opportunity for both of them.

  6. From KBA Middle School State Tournament.....

    Round of 64:

Blessed Sacrament beats Clay County 55 - 47

    Beechwood beat Bernheim 54 - 27

Gray falls to East Berstadt 44 - 31

    In round of 32:

    Blessed Sacrament beats Boyd 48 - 36

Beechwood gets drilled by Hopkinsville 57 - 29

Blessed Sacrament moves to Round of 16 in Championship bracket and Beechwood moves into the Gold Bracket on Sunday.

  7. Newport had a couple of underclassman shoot the ball really well from outside the 3 point line. #4 shot the ball extremely well, I think he is a freshman. Made some deep threes in both JV and Varsity.

Makhi McGuire is a freshman (and has an 8th grade birthday), and has deep, deep, range on his jump shot. He is approaching 6'. As he continues to develop his ability to drive, and gets a little quicker with his release, he will be a scoring machine. I predict alot of pts in his HS career. He is an unbelievable FT shooter, but doesn't get to the line enough because, at this stage of his career, he prefers to stand on the perimeter. When he starts driving it, and starts getting to the line 5 - 6 times per game, his game will be fun to watch.

He plays AAU with NKY Legends, and hit the 2 game winning FTs in the National Championship game. He is a zone buster, and with his range, it is tough for a zone to extend that far. I just wish he would learn to guard someone. :idunno:

  8. Yes, I have seen Mullikan vs. Blessed Sac, St. Agnes (Green), and several Cincinnati Schools. He is tough. He plays a lot of AAU. Kremer plays for NKY Elite.

Kremer plays for NKY Legends, along with his friends Jefferson/McGuire/Draud (Beechwood); Green (St Agnes), Salter/Huddleston (Highlands), Hrycak (Ockerman), McGuire (Newport), Hicks (Conner), Moser (St Joes) and Lane (Walnut Hills)

I suggest a moratorium on the Jefferson speculation - it isn't fair to him. Unless you talk to him or his family on a daily basis, you have no insight. And, saying "good game" to him after watching him play doesn't qualify as "talking" to him. Neither does, "Well, my son knows him, and he said he was going to NCC" Everyone 'knows' Caleb, so that doesn't count either.

I am sure that he & his family will make the best decision for him, taking all things into account: academics, ability to be prepared for college, basketball, football, friends, AAU teammates, tuition, schedule, coaches, development as a person, etc.
