  1. I see you answered the who. I was hoping you could give the why. I believe this is the 2nd time I have seen you say that Owen would beat Walton and win the district. You must know something we don't and I wish you would share.

My guess is that Walton wins big. Heres why:

    Walton beat Henry County 29-7.

    Henry County beat Owen 14-10

Walton beat Grant County in their preseason game. It wasn't close

    Grant County beat Owen 20-13

So my prediction is that Walton wins by 21. This should be a fun game to watch.

  2. 1. SK - The best NKY team last year with the most coming back and an undefeated JV team to support the returning starters

    2. Ryle - Morgan and crew will be improved from last year but will it be enough to fully close the gap with the Pioneers ?

    3. Cooper - While I think they take a step back this year it will not be a very big one. They return some playmakers and Borchers is a terrific coach.

    4. Cov Cath - I know you can't rank them ahead of HHS until they beat them but its my top ten. AJ will be much improved from last year and I think they have more coming back up front than HHS

    5. Highlands - It sounds like they have the offensive skill positions covered in the Fort but do they have enough upfront on both sides of the ball to beat anyone ranked above them?

    6. Scott - Welcome to life without the two stud running backs lucky for them they still have a lot upfront and Nelson Perrin to fill the void.

    7. Dixie - They were young last year and gained valuable experience. Cameron Barrett should have a big year

8.9.10. Beechwood, NCC, Holy Cross - Holy Cross has the most coming back but were also 0-2 against them. NCC has Henschen, HC has Abernathy & Barnes, and Beechwood has Justice & Castleman I think these three separate themselves at the line of scrimmage. Lucky for us they all play each other.

HM- Conner - They started off last year off the list and do so again but I have to think by the end of the season they may be back there again.

I agree that Nelson Perrin will have a great year. He has been a playmaker since his days in Boone County Pee Wee football.

  3. Does anyone want to take a shot on a breakdown of the game? Maybe we could get some insight on the players, offense, defense, and coaching advantages which would lead to the opinion of "Lloyd names the score".

Looking at the history of these two it looks like it has been very competitive. They have met 4 times in the playoffs since 2011. Here are the results.

    2011 Lloyd 13-0

    2102 Walton 33-26

    2013 Walton 21-18

    2015 Lloyd 31-14

They have also met 3 times during the regular season since 2011. Here are the results.

    2011 Walton 42-14

    2012 Lloyd 38-33

    2015 Lloyd 31-14

  4. Here is the information I have been told about the 2016 Bearcats

This is a list of the some of the top returning players

    Mason Smith QB/RB/OLB

    Ben Brown QB/RB/OLB

    Scott Pettyjohn RB/CB

    Micah Alford MLB/FB

    Zach Clinkenbeard WR/FS

    Hunter Ruber MLB/FB

    Colton Catlet DE/NG

    Aaron Tiepe G/MLB

    Ethan Quatkemeyer T/DT

    Logan Boone T/DT

    Hunter Michael G/DE

The offensive/defensive line should be in good shape. Based on the experience of the returning players.

The defense will be led by the Senior MLB Hunter Ruber.

The offense will need to fill some holes with the loss of Page, Poore, and Richardson. They do have a large amount of skill players who will be looking to fill those positions.

One thing for sure is that Coach Barth will put a competitive team on the field.

    Good luck Bearcats!!!!

  5. Walton has some solid kids coming up. I'm sure Coach Barth with continue to develop the kids he has.

As far as wrestling RJS4470 understands what it takes to compete in KY and nationally. It is a very demanding sport that you have to continue to progress. This includes weights, cardio, camps, and lots of mat time. When you come into high school you are now a young kid (freshman) wrestling men (juniors and seniors).

I believe that kids should play all sports growing up. Once you reach high school and start thinking about college I think a little more focus in necessary if you plan to go to college for that sport.

As far as Mason and Noah. Noah decided to quit football due to the fact that he doesn't love it like he once did. I can respect that. Most kids continue to play for parents, coaches, and friends. My thought from speaking to Noah is that he will play again.

For Mason his plan is to continue lifting and training to win a state title this year in wrestling. He unfortunately ran into the state champ 2 years in a row at the state tournament. There are still a lot of tough seniors around his weight so the extra focus was important this year. His plan next year is to run distance in track and also play football again.

As far as Evan I have no idea. He was a solid football player and I imagine he has his own reason for not continuing to play.

I wish all the boys the best of luck in whatever they decide to do during high school. Also looking forward to watching WV football continue to build a winning tradition. Coach Barth and his staff will continue their winning ways.

    Go Bearcats!!!!

  6. Not much point in arguing this anymore. It was one of the best high school football games I have ever watched. Both teams played well.

As far as Will Latimore I believe that he showed that he was a game changer. We had a discussion all year about top running backs. When Latimore was talked about most people did not believe that he was a top back. Lots of comments about a weak schedule, a small school, etc. Anyone that witnessed this game should agree that he is a top back.

Yes he is a senior with a bright future ahead of him.

Good luck to Newport this weekend.

  7. I like to watch all the debate about running backs. From the schedule, offensive line, playing only a half, etc. I use to have the same debate with my buddy about emmitt smith vs Barry sanders. Emmitt has the most yards, 3 Super Bowl rings, etc. My argument was he had a more talented team and if you put sanders on the offense imagine the yards he would of had.

The reality is we would never know and emmitt is the leading nfl rusher ever.

So no matter how much we debate I would guess after the final season game tonight that mason compton of walton will be the leading rusher as well. Does that mean he is the best? Probably not but he will have the most yards and touchdowns. No debate needed.

There are so many talented running backs in NKY. I believe all the boys have done a great job for their teams. Good luck in the playoffs.

  8. Yes that could be true, but all the blowouts and running clocks tell me they are not playing very strong competition.

They are good players but it wouldn't be as easy and the numbers wouldn't look as good if say they were on a struggling team. No knock thats just speaking in general of all backs. I know those two can play. Just wish they could prove it against stronger or bigger teams. That would strengthen the arguement.

Good point. They have a pretty good test Friday against LCA. I'm not saying they are the best but should definitely be in the conversation for NKY running backs.

  9. Both Compton and Latimore played most of their games for only a half. I say the best two back tandem in Northern Kentucky.

I have to agree. Its usually a running clock by halftime 6 out of the last 9 games they have played. Imagine what the yards and td's would be if the games were close. Compton is a power runner with break away speed. Latimore is a threat every time he touches the football. With 15.8 yards avg I would have to say i wouldn't want to have to make an open field tackle on him. I would be saying "just don't make me look silly.

I'm sure someone is going to argue that they only play 2A football but something tells me they could start for any team in NKY. Just my opinion.

  10. Cooper has 4 kids that could place at state in my opinion.

Cody Huston at 120. He has spent all summer at Mirons in Columbus. If he can stay at 120 I see him placing at state

Jordan Monroe at 126. He should be improved from last year

Kyle Steiner at 138 should be top 4 at Regions.

Andrew Bailey at 145 should be region champ. Bailey is the top kid on Coopers team. His main competition is Jack Dorne from Ryle.

After those 4 the team is very thin. Don't think they have enough depth to get into the top 4 at Regions. We will see.

  11. I agree losing Miller was tough. All the kids you listed are solid kids and could place for sure. I also agree that Seeney is a good young talent. I would have to say he is top Freshman on that team and should have no problem making the line up. 132 and 138 are tough in this region. Scott is on the rise for sure.

  12. I believe that Johnson (Dixie) is finished wrestling.

There are a few weight change rumors that have been going around.

Elijah Owens (Simon Kenton) could go 132 maybe 138

Tucker Mueller (Simon Kenton) finally going heavyweight. With a best like Myers (Campbell) at 220 it makes sense

Casey Cornett (Simon Kenton) moving up to 170.

Miller (Simon Kenton) transferred from Scott. Immediate impact for Simon Kenton

Logan Erdman (Ryle) could move up to 132. He will win regions at either weight in my opinion.

Jake Erdman (Ryle) might be hanging up his wrestling shoes. I would be shocked if he did.

Ashford (Scott) his weight finally caught up to his muscles. Hear he is jumping to 145 if not 152. Very strong kid.

Tyler Holub (Scott) heard rumors he transferred to Cooper. Never know. Lots of new places for the holub kids.

Noah Hammond (Walton Verona) Is most likely finished wrestling.

Ryan Moore (Walton Verona) transferred from Campbell county. Will have immediate impact for Walton.

Mason Smith (Walton Verona) Big growth spurt. Wrestled 113 and could wrestle 138 this year. 4 weight class jump.

I'm sure we have more changes coming. These are just a few that I know about.

  13. Here are the top Candidates.

    ATT Yards Avg TD's

    Mason Compton (Walton Verona) 127 1101 8.7 21

    Torrey Cordell (Cooper) 159 962 6.1 8

    Will Latimore (Walton Verona) 59 934 15.8 11

    Dillon Powell (Simon Kenton) 132 903 6.8 9

    Collin England (Ryle) 112 896 8.0 6

This should come down to a close one.

Walton Verona has a bye this week while the other remaining players have a game. The final week they face LCA. I would imagine both Compton and Latimore will have 100+ yards each.

Cooper faces Grant County this week which should be a big rushing game for Cordell. The final game is against Dixie which will be tough to run on.

Simon Kenton faces Bullitt Central which should allow Powell to pick up some big yards. However with only one game left I don't think he has enough time to take the lead.

Ryle has one remaining game with Dixie. I would say he is in the same situation as Powell. Tough opponent and last game to gain some ground on the leaders.

With all this said I will have to say it will be between Compton and Cordell. The last week should be fun to see who comes out on top.

Great season for all these running backs. Good luck in the playoffs.

  14. It wasn't a targeting penalty it was the walking over part. Bracken County's running back ran a safety flare out of the back field and was looking to catch the football and this player read it perfectly and delivered the hit. Not a dirty hit at all just the walking over him is what got the flag thrown

It was an outstanding hit. Nothing dirty about it. However when the kid stood over him and puffed his chest that was the problem. Kids have a tendency to let their emotions get the best of them in big moments. I don't know if an ejection was called for but if you watched the play you cant deny the kid taunted the player he hit.

Hopefully the kid continues to play and hit hard. I think this is an opportunity for a coach to coach his player in the future. Explaining that being excited for a big hit is great but be careful when you do it. Let him know that him being ejected does nothing but hurt the team. Great coaching lesson for the player.

  15. Here are my thoughts for the upcoming season for NKY Region 6. Top ranked kids for Preseason state rankings

    Rank of teams

    1. Campbell County

They are regional champs with many returning starters. Here are the preseason top kids for CC.

    Tanner Yenter #15 106

    Brady Wells #2 113

    Brad Krebs #16 126

    Bryan Holden #8 132

    Bryan Spahr #6 138

    Jared Stadtmiller #17 152

    Trey Dowton #20 160

    Eli Matthews #2 182

    Brett Graziani #5 195

    Austin Myers #1 220

    2. Ryle

Should be #2 right behind Campbell County. The only thing keeping them for winning the region is the other holes in their line up.

    Clint Chaffee #24 120

    Logan Erdman #1 126

    Jake Erdman #1 138

    Jack Dorne #3 145

    Jon Belk #4 160

    John Meiman #2 170

    Will Allen #13 182

    Ryan Wolf #17 195

    3. Simon Kenton

Should finish 3rd. All 3 of these top schools have many top kids in the state

    Elijah Owens #2 132

    Elijah Jackson #19 145

    Casey Cornett #1 160

    Elijah Miller #1 195

    Tucker Mueller #5 220

    4. Walton Verona

It will be close with Cooper/Scott. They are young so it should depend on how the Freshman class does.

    Blake Roth #16 106

    Ryan Moore #5 113

    Sloan McMillian #20 120

    Jake Peace #10 126

    Mason Smith #6 132

    Ryan Woodward #19 138

    Hunter Ruber #15 220

    5. Cooper and Scott are to close to call. I would have to give the slight edge to Cooper. It will be a race for 4th,5th,6th between these two and Walton.
