  1. McCracken County @ Paducah Tilghman in a cross town rival game on Saturday night August 20th. Tilghman owned all the county teams for years before consolidation. The newly formed Mustangs have fielded some nice teams in the 3 years but Tilghman leads the series 2-1. It will be as big of a crowd as you'll see on this end of the state. Make sure you give yourself time to get a meal downtown and / or hit one of the local breweries. Italian Grill on Broadway or Doe's Eat Place come highly recommended.

  2. Paducah Tilghman

Joseph Spencer Rork 1915 University of Kentucky, Evansville Crimson Giants

Leeman Bennett 1956 University of Kentucky, Atlanta Falcons (head coach), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (head coach)

Glenn Shaw 1956 University of Kentucky, Chicago Bears, LA Rams, Oakland Raiders

Lawrence "Choo Choo" Lee 1980 University of Kentucky

Derrick LeRoy Thomas 1982 University of Arkansas, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Jay Dortch 1984 University of Kentucky

Emerson Wells 1991 University of Kentucky

  3. Congrats to St. Xavier. It was a great game!! Thanks for a memorable season Mustangs, we are proud of you guys.

    Two interesting side notes:

-remembering our friend Joey Fosko on game day - June 17 (the day of his birth & passing)

-the young man who had the game winning pinch hit has direct ties to the McCracken County area (that baseball blood runs deep). Congrats to him & all his family.

  4. I wonder if any team has lost their first game and then come all the way back to win it all

From what I was told no team has even made it to the championship game after a first round loss. It could be years before it happens, if ever. First, a great team has to lose in the first round. This usually isn't going to happen against 8-12 of the tournament teams so the draw has to line up for such a matchup. Second, that losing team has to have extraordinary pitching depth. Third, that losing team has to have the ability to remain focused and believe they can win 8 in a row. The scenario just happened to play out this year. Especially with a team having the experience of winning the title the previous year.

  5. Tigerspride. First, congrats to your Tigers on winning the 2nd Region! It wasn't about thinking Caldwell couldn't win it, just didn't agree they were the favorite over Henderson County. I hope you understood the stratosphere comment was purely about the schedule comparison. The one game by mercy rule got my attention but wasn't the deciding factor as I noted the possibility of pitching variables. I stand by the schedule comparison, but also understand championships aren't won on scheduling alone. Bottom line is the Tigers advanced by winning. This Friday I'll be pulling for Caldwell County. Good luck!

Taking out district games and common opponents here is the rest of the regular season schedules:

    Caldwell Co.

    top - Spencer Co.

mid - Owensboro Cath, East Jessamine, Marshall Co, Eastern

weak - Mayfield (2 games), Livingston Cent (2), St. Mary, Lyon Co (2), Graves Co, Warren Cent, Carlisle Co, Crittenden Co, McLean Co, Todd Co Cent

    Henderson Co.

top - #2 McCracken Co (2) 1st Region champ, #7 St. Xavier 7th Region champ, #15 Bowling Green (2) 4th Region champ, #19 South Warren, Pleasure Ridge Park, Christian Co, Ohio Co 3rd Region champ, Apollo

mid - Hopkinsville (2), Muhlenberg Co (2), Pell City, AL (2)

weak - Grayson Co (2), Pelham, AL

  6. I don't agree with Henderson being an underdog to Caldwell. I'm not picking on the Tigers (29-5 is a great season), but their schedule isn't in the same stratosphere as Henderson's. There are at least 10 games, if traded on the schedules, that would most likely reverse their records. Looks to be the same if they played Union or Christian's schedule. Also, in the previous meeting Caldwell got mercy ruled by Henderson in 5 ings. I wasn't there and maybe it was a worse case scenario on the pitching matchup for them. Both Union and Henderson appeared to be solid teams when I saw them play. Anyhow, good luck to all the Region 2 teams.

  7. McCracken Co pitcher Caleb Reinhardt has been outstanding. Got the start against several of the Mustangs' tougher opponents. Wins include: St. Xavier, North Bullitt, Christian Co, Tilghman (twice), Henderson Co, and Hopkinsville (w/ McGee). Unofficial record 9-1.
