I know there is some talent there....some sitting the bench and getting no coaching at all. But everyone does it differently.
There was also a lot of talented seniors that decided not to play this year after being in the program since the 8th grade.
-
Cooper has some soul-searching to do about the program.
That is an understatement, the vision of the program does not appear clear to anyone. Except maybe the head coach and AD at Cooper.
-
And what is the point of the above??
Just as your screen name says, "History".
-
Cooper had only two seniors and one junior on the field, versus Ryle's eight seniors and one junior.
If an outsider that just happened to stop and watch the game would think that; a) Cooper must be a brand new school and their baseball program is in its infancy or b) Cooper is a small school with a small enrollment playing a much larger Ryle juggernaut.

2 sophomores who are not playing varsity but are very talented are AJ Mayer (CovCath) and Justin Schlarman (Cooper).
Justin Schlarman played some catcher on varsity last year. Is he not playing varsity this year?
-
Agreed. He will be a name we hear a lot about over the next two years. Kid can hit. I think he is playing for Midland.
He will need to get on with a respectable Summer team because his high school coach does not appear dedicated to helping the players get better.
-
Cooper is bad this year, but the player to watch out for is Brayden Runion. He played in some Varsity games as a freshman last year and was way over-matched at the plate. He could not hit the ball for nothing. He has gotten bigger and stronger and can flat out hit the ball now.

I would agree pitching is very important to be successful.
The teams that I feel that will start the season with a little stronger top 3 would be Beechwood, Boone, Cooper, Cov Cath and Ryle. The 5 teams listed are pretty senior heavy and the experience will pay off in the early part of the season.
Beechwood - Will have a starting lineup with about every kid that can pitch. I see Beechwood's top three as Fieger, Combs, and I would say Rowe. They also have Stringer, Bankemper, and Slusher who pitch.
Boone Co - Has 12 seniors, 10 who pitch. Boone's top 3- Purnell, Dahms, Elmore
Ryle- Has a strong senior class as well. Ryle's top 3 - Ziegelmeyer, Billig, Kirschler
Cooper - I was thinking had a heavy senior class w/ good exp pitching but have heard there might be trouble in Union and lost several seniors. That leaves me with Friend and Turner, can't come up with the third. Any help out there from the Cooper base ?
Cov Cath - Always seems to have a strong 3.
The ninth region will see some strong pitching this year, but which teams will have the full package with great defense and strong offense.
Cooper will have a one of the top number 1 and 2 pitchers. After that it is up in the air. Their issue will be offense, their top two hitters did not return. Other seniors decided to not return either. Read into that what you will.

Maybe TheRealFauxTiger will know something since he appears to be the BW Baseball talent scout and expert. :ylsuper:

Stringer nor Combs made the list?
Look a little closer under Region 9.

Ball nerd you sound like you have an axe to grind with the coach, bitter parent?
Dutch. No I do not have an axe to grind, nor am I a bitter parent. I do not recall me saying anything personal or negative about the coach. I was asked my opinion and I stated two facts.

bballnerd enlighten us on what the issues are at Cooper?
Individually at each position, Cooper has talented players. Collectively they often struggle as a team. Is that a reflection on the players or coaching? There was no off season conditioning program at the school this past season. I do not know about all the other schools in the district, but I would imagine most if not all have some type of off season conditioning program.
-
I don't believe Cooper's issues are because lack of talent.

Hats off to Boone, they played with a lot of emotion from the first pitch. They were very aggressive on the bases, sometimes too aggressive. As a result one Boone player was ejected from the game for running over Cooper's third basemen. As was noted, Cooper's defense was not shakey, it was terrible. Boone scores two runs on an overthrow to third on a steal attempt. What made it bad was one of the runners scored from first base. Also Boone scores a run on a routine fly ball to right field. The runner tags up from second and advances to third and kept going all the way to home.
The emotion Boone played with is a direct result of their coaches, same with Cooper.

Pitching has been excellent Q. However, the Henry Clay 7-0 game was a forfeit as HC used an ineligible player.
Has that player not played since then?
-
Yea, because that's exactly what that post said. Tell me who your team is, I will say something nice about them so you feel respected.
What about Dixie?
-
Whats the deal with them? Consistently starting 2 freshman and a sophomore? Is there no junior or seniors who can start?
-
Cooper runs scored is worse than that. The only outpouring of offense was their one win against Ryle. BTW the lineup that scored all the runs and won that game has not been on the field since. Go figure!
-
All depends on who is on the field for Cooper.
-
Cooper is on the down hill slide!

Not just physical ability and heart make a good/great player. The attitude toward teammates also goes into a great player. Be confident but also be humble.

The measure of a great player, is the play on the field. Not the talk of their dad! Be humble both the player and dad. A lot of players and dads could use Combs' as an example.
