  1. Kind of tough to see the correlation between GPA's and knowledge of the game. Plus, maybe Ballard's kids have similar academic standing. I'd be cautious in inferring a higher level of intelligence and/or basketball knowledge without background information. Point=my high school valedictorian had a 4.0 & a 34 on the ACT, but he couldn't hit a layup. The experience factor is a valid point. I can't imagine walking onto the court at Rupp for the first time.

  2. It just seems like no matter what Wolford does you're going to be critical. Too many dads on staff, no philosophy, bad hires for offensive coordinator, change for change sake, taking too long to make a hire, on and on. Could we agree you just have issues with Wolford, justified or not? St X improved this year. Does he get credit for that?

  3. The Glaser glasses are an interesting phenomenon. So many X fans wanted him gone. Now, because Wolford hasn't won big yet, Glaser is fondly remembered. I'm convinced Coach Wolford is learning on the job. Good news is he's willing to learn. And I think Coach Bruner returned to the staff because he believes in where the program is heading. That tells me all I need to know.

  4. Excellent point. I think one of Coach Wolford's initial mistakes was lack of knowledge of high school coaches. His first staff looked a lot like a CSAA group. Now he has a number of former high school head coaches and coordinators. The defense seems to have established an identity. Maybe he'll find an OC who can do the same.

  5. Could be why Coach Glaser watches on Fridays now. His unwillingness to change with the times ultimately cost him. Coach Woodford has had a ton of changes on his offensive staff since he took over. I'd like to pose this question: what is more important, the same staff each year, or making the changes needed to get it right? Seems like Trinity had some defensive upheaval the past couple of years. Coach Beatty did what he had to do to fix it. Wolford's lack of experience has shown in staff turnover but he sure seems to have gotten the defensive side figured out. Maybe offense is next.

  6. I think something that is significant for the Tigers, and coach Wolford's learning curve, is the overhaul of his staff. I had a St. X fan tell me they have 4-5 guys on the staff who have been head coaches as well as another who was an experienced D coordinator. That kind of experience has to help, even if it doesn't improve team speed!

  7. Hasn't Coach Wolford made some pretty dramatic changes to his staff? I believe both coordinators now are former head coaches and there are a couple other new faces on staff with significant high school experience, but I could be (as I often am) wrong.
