Who are the top incoming freshman and sophmores coming in this season?!
-
It could be a combination of both. I just make this point, I don't see anyone question UCONN every year when they start a freshmen. No one questions the state of UCONN's program when they have a youngster that has worked hard, has the skills, and talent to be great.
Time will tell if it's the programs state or the talent of the youngsters.
Ally Niece from Scott HS has started on varsity since she was a 6th grader and no one questions her talent or ability.
-
Two 8th graders have been added to the varsity roster at Cooper. Lexi Held and Asyah Mitchell are officially on the Cooper Varsity Roster. The first two middle school players in recent school history to be moved up.
-
Two 8th graders have been added to the varsity roster for CC. Taylor Clos and Mackenzie Schwarber are expected to play intrical minutes for the camels varsity team. They are to my knowledge the first two middle school kids to be moved up and be on varsity in recent school history.
-
Tyrah McClendon-Englemon (8th grader) has made the varsity squad and should either start or play intrical and meaningful minutes.
-
NKU Head Coach, Dawn Plitzuweit, showed up at Scott High School last Tuesday to watch Ally Niece and the other young talent from Scott High School. That is a big statement for a DI head coach to show up to watch an 8th grader on the first day of high school practices. She could have been anywhere but chose to watch and 8th grader.

This is way off topic but Walter, I want to invite you to an exciting Elite Basketball Camp for the girls of NKY. We would love for you to join us and get your hoops fix by watching some of the Elite talent this weekend! It is a NCAA Certified 3 day camp and the players that were invited were selected by a panel of coaches from 8th, 9th and 10th regions.
Camp begins this evening at 6:00 and at 6:30 a parent/coaches/general public meeting to provide a high level of overview of NCAA rules and regulations and what parents and players can do to prepare for getting to the next level lead by a former D1 Coach. Sat: 9-6 with 5v5 games beginning at 11:00 and Sun 9-4 with an All-Star game starting at 2:30. Again, would love to have you join in the 1st NKY Rising Star Elite HS Camp. Location for camp is 25 Cavalier Blvd (rt next to Boone Co HS)
More details are posted under the Girls Basketball forum.
Hope you can make it!

Love hearing success stories like Maci's! Congrats to her and her family and all of her coaches and teammates.
Best of luck to Maci and I'll be watching for her in the Blue and White Uniform! GO CATS!

Can you give us an update on what colleges have committed to attending the event?
Budman~The colleges that have either committed to attending or have purchased the coaches packet that includes all 5v5 games and the All-Star game were posted earlier, plus NKU.
-
SnakeEyes~The girls were invited based off of a select panel of coaches in the 8th, 9th, 10th regions. All HS coaches in the region were notified and asked to submit players as well. Of course not all invites were accepted.
-
If you planned to attend the ALL-Star game on Sunday, it will begin at 2:30.
This is a change from one of my previous posts.
Looking forward to seeing the girls work hard to get better!

As a parent of a young athlete, I just don't understand why Mr. Turner would put his daughter through this.
Deja is a talented young lady and has a bright future.
I hope that they make the right decision for her sake.
She should be on the court(Jr yr) not taking issues to the courts(KHSAA)
Will be interesting what the final outcome is.

Good luck with this camp! I hope it is a huge success and becomes popular exposure camp for years to come.
Thanks for the well wishes and best of luck to you and your girls! We hope to bring more regions into the camp next year and most certainly we will reach out to you!
-
I would think the most talented players may perhaps be competing in the exposure tournaments where a much larger number of college coaches/scouts will be in attendance since they only get one weekend to shine.
You bring up a great point but the issue is most of our local talent doesn't realize the opportunities that they have available or they simply were not invited b/c they haven't been seen. Hence the reason the NKY Elite camp was started b/c a lot of our talent is missing out. Some parents and athletes and even members of BGP's didn't realize that the girls were able to attend a camp or play the weekend of the 27th. Which is another thing we are trying to do is to educate the parents of the players and show them the opportunities available. We have 2 sessions for spectators/parents etc. to attend where discussions will revolve around Cliff Notes on NCAA Rules and Regulations, What parents can do to assist their athlete in getting to the next level and what players need to do. Sportsworx will be at the camp as well to answer recruiting questions etc. These sessions will take place Friday the 27th at 6:30pm and Sunday the 29th at 1:30pm. Event takes place at 25 Cavalier Blvd Florence, KY (Rt next to Boone Co HS)

Great question....What colleges and/or scouts have confirmed that they will be at this event to scout talent?
I am just as anxious to hear who is attending as you are but I don't have that information yet. I did find out a few of the colleges that will either be attending or receiving the coach's packet that will include a video of all the games are: NKU, Bowling Green State University, Transy, Bluffton...that's all I have at this time. Several conversations with coaches from other colleges have taken place but they are awaiting the final list of committed players, which will come out sometime this weekend.
As soon as I receive any other information I will be sure to share it with you.
-
I apologize I did not put the dates in the above post and I didn't want anyone to show up this Friday or Sunday and be disappointed:)
The camp dates are September 27th-29th
Parent Informational Sessions take place
Friday the 27th at 6:30pm
and
Sunday the 29th at 1:30pm

Been receiving some questions and concern about if a player accepts their invite to attend the NCAA NKY RISING STAR ELITE CAMP, if it would affect their playing eligibility and I want to put your minds at ease.
BY ATTENDING THE NKY RISING STAR ELITE HS GIRLS CAMP IT WILL NOT AFFECT YOUR ATHLETES ABILITY TO PLAY DURING THEIR HS SEASON. We have in writing that the KHSAA has approved this camp as well as being a NCAA Certified event. Our goal is to educate parents and players in the NKY area and ensure that they are taking advantage of the opportunities available to assist their aspiring athletes. Also, a question was raised if an athlete is somewhat or has already verbally committed to attend a college can they still attend the camp and the answer is: Yes, Absolutely!
Below is a link showing the camps available that have been NCAA certified. The KHSAA knows that this is the only weekend during pre-season that college coaches are able to watch girls play during "school" season. As I stated we do have in writing that this is an approved event and will NOT affect your players ability to play during regular school season. Each invite was provided Sara's contact information if you have questions, please either contact her or post a question here.
I also want to invite you to attend as a spectator. We would love to have you join us and see what is being taught and learn about the process of getting your player recognized by colleges etc. We have planned 2 days and times where the below items will be discussed
*Cliff Notes on NCAA Rules and Regulations
*Help Parent Prepare for What they Need to Do
*What Athletes need to Do
Friday at 6:30pm and Sunday at 1:30
Location: 25 Cavalier Blvd Florence, KY 41042
Thanks for the support of our NKY Athletes and we are looking forward to seeing the talent hit the hardwood!
