  1. The comments being made by the Boone coach have no place in soccer. These comments were not being made to players but were being made while questioning the referees decisions. From the beginning of the game the coach was harassing the referees on every call they made and didn't make. At one point during the game an offsides call was made and the coach didn't like the call. He accused the referee of making the call due to the players skin color. I looked at the person sitting next to me and asked them if they heard the same thing I did and we both said that we must have misheard him. Why would a high school coach say something like that? I then talked to some of the players after they game and they confirmed that the coach was making these types of comments.

As a program who was making headlines earlier in the year about how many different nationalities they have, about how inclusive and accepting they are, the Boone coach has taken all of that and thrown it out the window.

  2. Congrats to Cov Cath, it was a well deserved win and title.

Only issue I have is with the players elected to the All-Tournament team. Romes and Darpel were well deserved. They shut out Fern Creek, and Henry Clay and held Trinity to one goal. Day, although he is a great player, is he really the MVP? Day had a pk saved and a 1-on1 with the keeped saved in the final. This doesn't exactly scream MVP.

If anyone I thought it should have been Lamb. 2 goals with 1 assist against Fern Creek and 2 goals with 1 assist in the state final. He was involved in all the goals Cov Cath had in the final but can't get any love from his coaches for the all-tournament team.

  3. Cooper and ncc are tied????? For fifth?????

They lost about the same on the field but ncc picked up a new (better) coaching staff.

If you think Cooper was good last year, look at what ncc did to them in regionals.

Look at what Cooper did to NCC during the regular season... Cooper went down to Morscher and beat them 2-0. Cooper being the only team in district 33 to BEAT NCC and also started a skid of 4 losses out of 5 games.

However, their former coach was able to rally the team, turn things around, and get wins when the season was coming to an end. He was able to motivate his boys to beat teams down south such as Woodford Co., Madison Central, and North Hardin. He was close to upsetting Cov Cath in the regional tournament.

But who cares what happened last year, I can't wait for this year to begin.

    Dark Horse - Holy Cross

They are returning several starters from last year and should have a solid defense. Enzweiler and Krumpelman are both solid players to keep an eye on. While they will most likely not win their district, with a little luck they may make a regional run this year.

Ryle - May have a chip on their shoulder from last year. I would assume that they will want to prove something this year.

Cooper ranked a little lower than most people. I agree with flops&hacks in that there seems to be a lack of leadership on the pitch. They lost a leader in Williams and it will be difficult to fill his shoes. I also noticed that they were have an issue finding the net. I went back to last year and they scored 14 goals in their last 8 games (8 of these goals were against St. Francis and Calvary). They only found the back of the net once in post season play, which was a mishandle by the keeper in the mud pit called Boone County field. I think its going to be tough to come close to what they did last year.

NCC - Not ranked as high as DBLYELLOW wants them to be, but they will be a solid team. I think they may find it hard to put the ball in the back of the net. It's going to be hard to replace Louis, Freppon, and Hensley but I think they have a solid season.

Oh by the way, DBLYELLOW congrats on your regional bid before the season starts. Maybe you can rest all that talent you keep talking about so you can be prepared for that regional run.

  5. A tale of two games for NCC. Complete domination of the midfield against Cooper resulting in 6 goals, while on their heels and playing more defensively against CCH. CCH was able to move the ball around at will throughout their attacking 1/3. It seemed NCC just wasn't clicking tonight as a team. They were unable to string together 3,4,5 passes without a wayward pass or a terrible trap, were unable to really get their strikers into the game, and their gk seemed somewhat unwilling to come off the goal line to collect dangerous passes/crosses. If NCC had played as well as they did against Cooper the outcome would have been completely different. However, CCH throughly deserved the win.

As far as the questionable handball, I was in the stands and was blocked from seeing what actually happened. These things do happen on the field as well, all it takes is 1 or 2 out of the 22 on the field to stand in the way. Props to the ref for admitting that he was blocked and couldn't make the call because of it, and then pulling out the yellow after a lengthy discussion with the CCH coach. The ref told him what he saw, CCH coach just wouldn't let it go, yellow for dissent.

Good Luck to CCH and St. Henry in Saturday's game. Hope whoever wins this will represent NKY well in the state tournament.

  6. First and foremost congrats to St Henry on the win, good luck with Boone Co. Second, congrats to Holy Cross on a great season and improving on their record from a year ago (2013 5-16-2 -- 2014 9-10-4). Hopefully Holy Cross can continue to improve and should be a contender in the region next year.

As far as the style of play by Holy Cross... I think that there is nothing wrong with physical play. Holy Cross plays a physical game, and let's face it, it is high school soccer. In the few games that I have seen Holy Cross play there has been nothing "dirty". What I have noticed is that Holy Cross may not have been up to speed with the game and their challenges were coming in late. A late challenge isn't always a dirty challenge. I have also noticed that Holy Cross' coach will let his boys play and when they are starting to become persistant he will sub them out to let them cool down. When a card is issued they sit on the pine for the rest of the game. I know the coaching staff does not encourage "dirty" play, but they do want their boys to play physical.

Again, good luck to St. Henry. Watch out for them long throws.

  7. Cooper's keeper, Williams, is hands down the best keeper in nky. 9 shut outs in the regular season, add 2 more in the post season. He has saved 5 or 6 penalties during regulation and another 3 in the shoot-outs against Ryle. He has only 2 multi-goal games which came against Campbell and Scott.

Last year Cooper gave up 94 goals and only posted one shut-out. This year they have only given up 11 goals. The defense this year has been playing very well this year and they know if they make a mistake they have Williams to bail them out.
