  1. During their dominant run the last 3 years they have plenty. Including some on the current team. Before their run started Beechwood had some very high level players too. Hence why I said those teams over the last 10 years. Covcath has had good solid talented clubs but not the top talent like their basketball and football teams have had recently.

The first post started with Covcath has the top crop of male athletes in nky, which is true. However being a top athlete has zero to do with being a top baseball player. They may have had the top athletes, doesn't mean they have had the top baseball players. Other schools have had better in that area.

There are 'plenty', but you can't name any of them?

I'm not sure of the enrollment at Otterbein, Thomas More, Ky Wesleyan, St Catharine, Hanover and John Logan but maybe some people do consider them 'big' schools.

  2. Covcath is talented, but has their talent over the last 10 years been superior to other teams in the region? I don't think so. Can someone name a year where you can say for a fact they were the most talented team in the region and came up short? It seems to me the most talented has been either Highlands and Beechwood over the last 10 years and can just look at the top players they have sent to big colleges.

So I am not sure what exactly someone is looking for here. In reality while they have been talented they haven't been the most talented team in the region like we have seen in football and basketball recently.

Has Covcath even missed making the region since 2004 when they lost to Ludlow in the district? Which by the way coaching had zero reason they lost that day. In a 1 and out situation those things happen. Not to mention he has one of the only state championships in 9th region history. As much talent these Highlands teams have had, they still havent won it all. I know the mentality of today is well if something doesn't work, it must be the coach and someone else can easily do better. Hence the reason more and more people keep getting out of coaching, while more and more people sit back and say all the things a coach does wrong, while not being willing to put all the countless hours in many of these coaches do. Most of the people quick to bash a coach are sitting at home with their families eating dinner, while the coach is still doing coach things and not getting to spend time with their own family while getting paid what equated to usually 2 dollars an hour.

Sorry for my rant but it seems we keep hearing more and more people talk about all the bad things a coach does anymore, even if they are a good coach which Krump is. Yet somehow now it's he can't coach in today's age? All because Covcath hasn't been able to win a region over teams who have more talent than them. He is a good coach who gives his team a shot to possibly win the region every year, even if they are not as talented as a highlands or Beechwood currently.

Who are all the top players Highlands has sent to "big" colleges over the last 10 years?

  3. Why doubtful?

I would think the better word to describe it would be 'Possible'. These were obviously 2 evenly matched teams. Both teams scored 2 touchdowns, CovCath just had a better PAT unit. I wasn't at the game, but heard HHS did have a 3rd TD called back by the infamous Defenseless Defender personal foul call. I believe last years's frosh game was a very close contest as well.

Saying CovCath is poised to be big dog in Northern Ky because they won a freshman game by 2 PATs is silly.

  4. Birds up 12-0 and lose.. Highlands had the ball 1st and goal from the 6yd line at the end of the game and don't score. Why do you not kick a fg on 4th and 2 to win the game?

I'm going to take a wild guess here and say Highlands either didn't attempt extra points, or had already missed 2 up to that point (Since they had 12 and not 14). They obviously don't have a kicker that they feel is capable on consistently making extra points (Or short field goals).

  5. Know your divisions...South Kenton plays in that division too. Walton trounced them.

Anyone who minimized Walton's defeat of SK this season doesn't know the NKYFL atop well. If they whipped SK alike that, they could compete against the upper division -- well, everyone but CC Red Devils that is.

You might want to go check out the SK Junior team play sometime. Even FFR74 has said they are playing several 5th graders up. Might also want to check out the scores of their games too. Lost 0-21 (WV), lost 0-40 (Union), Lost 0-20 (Red Devils) and other game vs BCR is listed as a 19-0 win for both teams. (So if they did beat the lil Rebs that means they were shut out 3 times and beat a team that has scored 6 points in 4 games. If they lost to BCR, then they are 0-4 and haven't scored a point in 4 games). Regardless if they did win the BCR game or not, the SK Junior team is not very good this year.

Walton may be a good team, but the game against SK does not prove that. Anyone who would try to use Walton's defeat of SK as a justification that they could compete in the upper division dos not not the 2017 NKYFL Junior division very well!! (See how I did that too)?

I did not make my original post to downplay what WV has accomplished, or say they wouldn't be able to compete against any teams. I just said it would be nice if they did play in the upper division this year. In my opinion there are only 2 teams that have a realistic shot of winning the super bowl, and it would be nice if they had some better competition.

  6. This Walton group is 45 and 3 over the past 6 years. Lots of weapons on both sides of the ball. Great coaching staff as well!

Too bad they don't play in the National division against teams like Bengal Tigers, Union Raiders, Red Devils and NKY Bandits every year.

  7. Why did a boatload of other schools in the state move their games? Just saying. Every other NKY game played tonight was on turf.

Might have had something to do with the fact they wanted to avoid lightning/thunder delays. There were plenty of other games played on grass throughout the state.

  8. Here is the whole thing in a nutshell without being biased. Both teams had to play in the same conditions so it is what it is. The fact of the matter is that it was the weather and the Cougars vs. SK. The weather was definitely the great equalizer. It was impossible for Shearer to throw the ball around. Not just because of the footing but the grip on the ball as well. Conner attempted more passes because they had to but their QB was flinging wounded ducks up there because he couldn't grip the ball either. SK's oline and defense won the game in the trenches. That's the way it had to be. Is Conner that good? I don't know. Is SK only 7 points better than Conner. Absolutely not!! I can only speculate but if this game is played on a dry field I say SK's passing game wins this by at least 3 touchdowns. I guess we won't know unless they meet in the playoffs somewhere. I would say that this game should never have been played. I think Trosper played it because he saw the rain and mud as an equalizer. He was right but also very arrogant and selfish. Football is a tough sport as it is. He put players from both teams in danger of catastrophic injury tonight because of his arrogance. This game should've been moved to last night or tomorrow at SK. Regardless, a win is a win and, in the grand scheme of things, it is a meaningless win because the district is all that matters. Good luck to the Cougars the rest of the way. I hope both teams made it out without any traumatic losses due to injury. I know both teams are banged up after tonight. I hope Trosper is happy with the result.

This post is pure entertainment. How many years has football been played in the mud. Good lord. Catastrophic injury? Are you referring to someone getting mud in their eyes. Gimme a break. I would argue that the risk of injury is less in these conditions due to how much the game is slowed down.

  9. People change jobs for myriad reasons. As mentioned above, sometimes its simply because an offer was too good to refuse and thats not a dig on the existing system. BB seems to be working awfully hard, in this and other posts, to fluff this into much more than it likely is. Starting to sound like he's got a personal agenda

Beechwood is a tough environment for any staff as the parents expect a lot, as is the case with several other local districts. That is exactly why people want to get into the system. As for the baseball staff, I believe the JV & frosh coaches are selected by the varsity coach. So, not unusual for this type of transition. I agree that turnover sucks but, I think its unfair to start the rumor mill like BB seems to want to do.

Whomever takes over that program is certainly inheriting three upcoming years loaded with talent.

Interesting that for baseball all positions are open but for girls basketball, only the head position is available. Does Beechwood only allow boys coaches to pick their staff.?
