  1. The Flu? come on... give Dixie credit they came in with a good game plan and executed.

I have watched Conner play several times this year and other than the big time Ryle match-ups they have looked "lethargic". Makes me think they took Dixie lightly and didn't respond well when Dixie came out and punched them in the mouth.

Agree. The Conner team that played last night was not the same team I saw play against Ryle twice and Simon Kenton (second game). Those games had a lot more energy and a lot more team ball.

  2. Great insight on the 33rd RC! I heard the Ast girl from Ryle is not playing to answer that question

Agreed with the insight on the 33rd RC. Great job as always breaking things down. Good luck to the BIRDS this year! Go JAGS! Most of all hope all the girls stay injury free and have fun! After all that's what this is all about.

  3. If I offended you I apologize. I think very highly of Conner this year. They may not have a star player but they have a lot of depth IMO. In girls basketball that is huge. When your 9/10th girl is a summer AAU playing girl it will make a difference. Conner will surely rely on its main players, Burcham, Jordan, Hurst and Duncan to do the heavy lifting. Those four are all excellent players. Add in several good seniors with an incredibly strong freshman and sophomore class (even with Hurst and Jordan playing JV ball this class was the best 8th grade group), this team is poised to win games. They have Duncan and the freshman Drummonds to play big inside. Great guards and forwards. Tons of depth. Conner is just solid everywhere that's why I see them competing for the region title. Unfortunately girls basketball does not get the turnout the boys do, so having significant depth is a big factor IMO.

33rd has a lot of talent! Jordan,Duncan,Hurst have all ready done a lot of heavy lifting in the past. I assume they will again. Someone said Anderson gets overlooked at times as well as Jordan in my opinion. Have seen them both play a few times and they just are not flashy players. both are fundamentally sound! would take them in my top 10 any day is all i am saying. Rcc9 who do you like in the 33rd you seem to know a lot about these kids?

  4. If HMS has the same team as the previous 2 years then this is a double-digit margin.

Have to agree with clyde on this one. It is going to take a while for conner to find their identity. The Jordan girl was a good point guard made everyone around her better. From what i remember this team still has some pretty good athletes. So you never know!

  5. Usually agree with you, but have to throw out a couple examples. And maybe this year is true with only one exception...but last year, Ally Neace, Lexi Stapleton and Lexi Held all started and were significant contributors. Also, Zoie Barth was HHS' 6th man and contributed greatly. Zoie was only a 7th grader last year. The thing is, those girls play at an elite level and do not play much local aau events. So not everyone sees them locally. ALL are very worthy of starting and playing varsity. Zoie is only an 8th grader this year and is top 6 (imo) on a very good HHS team. It can happen and I think these girls are exceptions to the rule and you are correct on most cases.

Zoie Barth would destroy her peer group in the 8th grade and maybe even two classes above. She lit up the JV scene as a 7th grader. Again, an exception. There are about 7 others that dominate that age as well. 3 go to conner, 2 go to HHS and two will go to Ryle.

You are so right about the barth girl nothing to offer the middle school level! Same goes for the jordan girl at conner have seen them both play a few times in the past. Fully expect conner to use her the same way Barth has been used at highlands. Both really nice players that have high basketball IQ`S.

  6. Seems like moving middle school players up to Varsity is a new trend in NKY girls basketball since it seems most schools have at least 1 MS on the team. I could see this being necessary for small schools to field a team, but most large schools aren't hurting for players. I'm left to wonder if this is really due to talent or for status purposes. I have also heard that this movement isn't coach sought (not only because recruiting violation)& if anything, coaches have no say in the matter. Once on the team, the coach does have a say about playing time. I'd be curious how the coaches feel about parents going above their heads forcing a player to be on the team. I have officiated many youth leagues, so I have seen most if not all the young AAU talent & in my book there isn't one single MS kid that belongs as a Varsity starter &/or bench. I could see many benefiting by playing up on freshman or JV team, but Varsity is a whole different atmosphere. I can't tell you the number of times I have watch a truly talented young player with a big time future, derailed because the parents pushed them to play up. Basketball is a sport that requires an even 50% talent & 50% drive. These young players may have the ability/talent to play up, but maturity-wise not prepared for that side of the game. The mental half can take a confident middle school player & cause them to get frustrated because they are not getting the same results they did in middle school ball. The pressure to measure up or prove they belong can become overwhelming which may lead to lower self-esteem/confidence level & once that happens, it is very hard to get that competitive edge back!! IMO...unless a MS player is single handedly destroying other peer teams/opponents, they belong playing with their age group/grade. NKY no doubt has a very talented group of young players coming up, but none of those players are above the development years middle school is meant for!!!

Curious your thoughts on some of the above mentioned kids that may not be getting the coaching they need to succeed at the middle school level. I am quite sure that has played into the decision of some of these parent and their children. Just an opinion.

  7. Chad Johnson (George Floyd's newphew) bounced back and forth from W.V. to Boone. Nice guy, he had huge legs.

Todd Goldsberry was another WV/Boone guy played baseball, he had the greatest stache!

I'm done, I think I did pretty well for never attending either school.

Chad played on that 1987 boone county team that lost in the regional finals i believe. That team was real good! Greg jordan and Scott schwartz were on that team as well along with Guy angel. Chad was regional POY that year as well. Good memories! Man that team had speed and power!

  8. Wrong. There are a few dads trying to start a team in Hebron but it has nothing to do with Conner. There will be a couple of teams leaving the NKYFL this coming year.

They will be called the bandits. May have nothing to do with Conner but the varsity program will benefit down the road. Can almost promise you that!

  9. Doesn`t matter who you hire in this particular decision not going to keep all parents happy!! Unless you hire 12 seperate head coaches of the parents choice for each kid. Don`t know how many wins that will produce but at least parents will be happy. This is not a dig on ryle parents or administration just reality. GOES ON AT EVERY SCHOOL IN THE REGION!

  10. Nell has always done things her way. Right wrong or sometimes even more wrong and has always gotten results! None of us are ever gonna totally agree with all her tactics. LETS PUT THIS TOO REST BOYS AND GIRLS AND GET A GOOD NIGHT OF SLEEP. Good luck in the upcoming softball season RC!

  11. I have no way to tell, but they took the time to type a very long and detailed message explaining the situation. I didn't tell the entire story, but I believe them. Also coincides and is very similar to others that are coming forward on this board now.

RC you seem uptight tonight my friend? Is softball stressing you out already? Just trying to bring a little humor in!!!!!
