  1. I would have to agree with the "history lesson"....however history wasn't my strongest point In school. I could say that Fleming beat a good Mason team two years ago that suffered several key player injuries during the season. Some of which were season/career ending injuries for some players. (Coach B son being one of them.) However I will not do that in respect to your "panther Pride" and claim for "victory fame."

Beating Mason last night might be good talk down at the Dairy Queen this weekend....but it won't mean a thing come seasons end.

Bottoms line is this. Fleming has gotten better. But Mason's falling off far exceeds Fleming improvement, compared to previous years.

P.S- if you read my last post I think it said Fleming beat Mason in the regular season...heck maybe I'm better at history than I thought.

And from the words of my good friend Paul Harvey,....."now you know the rest of the story".

And yes. Good luck to BOTH teams this season.

  2. If you read my second post. I said Fleming has gotten better. So credit was given to Fleming which is deserved by the Fleming kids/coaches and their staff. AND Coach B was not at Mason Co last year. (Unless he was hiding in the stands with the fans when Fleming/Mason played)

This is Coach Thomas second season as head coach at Mason. As I previously stated. In my opinion. Mason has fallen off more than Fleming has gotten better. Especially if you look farther back than just the previous two years. Fleming has always fielded a good competitive team and maybe even beat Mason in the regular season. But Mason has went farther in the post season the last few years. Even eliminating Fleming while doing so.

I am out of chalk now......so.....math class is done.

  3. I would agree that this years Fleming team is better than last years. But.. Mason has a lot of work to do since the departure of Coach B.

Mason, in my opinion has fallen off more than Fleming has gotten better. And I can't see how anyone can/could argue that. By seasons end. This win will mean nothing for Fleming other than they beat a Mason team (who I hate to say) might not win many more games than last year. I hope that isn't the case. But time will tell. Good luck to both teams going forward.

  4. Bottom line is this. AGAIN. Parents and players sign an agreement at the beginning of the season that includes RULES/REGULATIONS AND ZERO TOLERENCE POLICIES, in order to play ball. THERE ARE NO GREY AREAS. NONE!! (Get on the Mason County website and you can find it) If a student athlete breaks that rule or rules and is allowed to continue to play....because of various "Inhouse reasons" it is called having "double standards". I don't care what defense you can find for it or how many ways you can shake it up. That is what it is called!! THIS IS A COMMON THEME here the past few years. It sends the wrong message And it benefits the athlete none.

I'm not gonna bash Pig. He doesn't deserve that and that isn't the point here. He has had enough people bashing him and needs to learn from this and move on. BUT....if rules are set and leadership within our school system doesn't follow the rules that THEY THEMSELVES PUT IN PLACE. Why have the rules to begin with. WE ARE TO AFRAID OF WHO WE MAKE MAD or WHO WE OFFEND. THE RULES CHANGE DEPENDING ON WHO TOU ARE. It is like shooting at a moving target. This is a fact. I can name countless times this has happened and give very good examples of it. I'm not going to BUT I ASSURE YOU I CAN. Some of which would embarrass lots of people. So if I seem upset. Well you guessed it. Many people have been wronged by this nonsense, including myself. And not a person within our school has enough manhood to say they did anything wrong. And that's disappointing. THE PROBLEM BEGINS AND ENDS WITH DISPLINE....OR THE LACK OF.

However,....IF Biggs was still coaching at Ashland we wouldn't even be having any of this conversation and nobody would even care. Because we would have gotten beat first game of District against Bracken. And if you have been paying attention the last three years prior to Biggs arrival. You understand.

Partial Rant over for second time....(to be continued)

  5. Double standard rules will get no nowhere. It sends the wrong message to every student and student athlete whether they play sports or not. When you are a coach you cannot have them. And as a principal you cannot have them either. This problem has been around way longer than this year. Biggs didn't create it. He inherited it. THE PROBLEM IS DISCPLINE and the double standard rules that lay in between that. So yes. Biggs should have addressed it from the start. But he isn't the creator of it. Coaches have been hired to help "cover up" and "smooth over" potential problems with student athletes that are know to exist. This done instead of plain ole simple DISCPLINE. Players have been pushed out (by coaches) and quit over similar issues in the past years. So to the leadership of our school. You get what you serve. A black eye for all involved. It's a bad situation but until leadership within our school system has enough manhood to do the right thing and eliminate the double standard rules and DISCPLINE our student athletes. Expect this to be the same. However, prior episodes tell me....they will acccpt zero blame.....like previous years. And It will be the student athletes fault in their eyes.

    Partial rant over....for now

  6. As bad as this situation is for Pig and the program, the community and the 10th Region. At some point you (players and school leadership) have to look in the mirror and realize where the problem lies. Kids cannot always, nor will they, make the right choices. But as adults, teachers, coaches, etc it is your job (and the benefit of the athlete) to correct the problem(s) when you notice it and they first occur. The more you turn your head away and cover it up. The more you are at risk for problems down the road, such as this. And this circumstance came back to bite at the most aweful time. You cannot have "double standard rules" for players to cover up or "over shadow" student problems/issues. You also cannot hire coaches/teachers to help "control" potential problems that you know exist....with the hopes they don't occur. (And please don't anyone try to tell me this doesn't happen. I have been involved in this program for ten years. I have seen it plain and simple many times) In the very first parent/player meeting with coaches it is explained plain and simple about the rules and regulations, expectations of the a Mason County Athlete. The Parent and player both sign it. There are no grey areas. So, If school leadership has "double standard" rules....then please tell me what rule as an athlete you follow. Yes. Right is right and wrong is wrong. But. The only way to correct this is with Discpline. Plain and simple. Stop being scared of who we offend or make mad and do your job. It will benefit the student athlete down the road. You may not be the most popular person in town by doing to correct thing and Discplining the athlete. But right is right and wrong is wrong. And if you are really concerned about helping the student athlete, are you really helping by "looking away" To the school personal that are In leadership roles. Stop being scared of doing what is right. Discipline the kids when they need it most. It will benefit them in the long run!!!!

Take notes from Chief Smoke and run the ship like he did with the football program.

  7. I said PRIOR TO BIGGS ARRIVAL. Meaning NOT including this year. Biggs has done a great job and we are lucky to have him. I have always been a fan of his.

27-4 yes for the girls team. Yes. Ranked number 1 yes in the Region But so were the boys team of last year. And they we embarrassed three years running. PRIOR TO BIGSS ARRIVING. See any similarities with Boys team of last (three) year and Girls team of this year. I do. And you don't have to look far.

  8. If u have followed the Mason Co boys program for the last three seasons. (Prior to Biggs arrival). You should have expected the same result from the Mason Girls team this season. Its a shame when jobs are awarded due to "politics" and not on prior coaching experience and track records, so to speak. I hope the Lady Royals rebound next season for sure. But, I would not put my money on anything except the same result next season.....under the current situation. It's a sad shame in my opinion these girls have to endure the same results as the boys team did. Embarrassing for the boys and I'm sure for the girls the way this season ended. But they have next season so hopefully they get another shot. Go Lady Royals!!

  9. Good win for the Royals. Coach O'Hearn and staff did a great job. Shawn Johnson played a great all around game. He is a double double machine. Royals looked very good tonight against a hostile and loud Fleming County crowd and were very composed when they could have "cracked" once Fleming cut a 10 point lead to 5 in the 4th qtr. Hats off to the supporting cast of the Royals..Henry, "Pig" Williams, Frame, Greenhill and O'mara. Also would like to say Congrats to Fleming Co seniors. They have had a great high school career. Good Luck in District to both teams.

  10. No..I agree not the reason Mason lost. But Mason Co also had two TD's CALLED BACK for penalties. Different game then...maybe. And yes...word i got to (from KHSAA ref) is once the player singles fair catch....it's a fair catch. No player can run with it, at that point.

Word I got is, it is illegal, ball should have been blown dead as soon as anyone caught it after someone called for a fair catch. So I'm assuming the refs missed it. Not the only reason they lost, but a bad break for sure.
  11. Daulton Mason doesnt play at Mason County. He transferred to Lewis Co. You are probably referring to Dorian Henry and he is a stud. You will hear his name lot this season. Also Cameron Jones is no longer at Mason either....So not sure who you are confusing him with.

But, you are correct when say Mason didnt have any football players at todays game.

Count me in as being impressed with MC, too.

They have a nice inside game with Shawn Johnson at the 5 and the very athletic Daulton Mason at the 4.

Steady pg play with Cameron Jones and two solid guards in Dee Johnson and the #24 who looks like a miniature Joahkim Noah.

Mason CO could be better than some think. They were missing all of their football guys and played with just 6 varsity players.

For Covcath, Ruthsatz was his normal self. Probably had around 20 ppg. Really liked how well Mark Schult played down low and Bo Schuh was aggressive around the rim.

VonHandorf struggled some and I'd be surprised if he was in the starting lineup the first month, but he will be a nice player for the Colonels as the season progresses.

Schumate also had a couple 3's for the Colonels and Cooper Theobald gave some nice minutes as well. Coach Ruthsatz feels comfortable going 10 deep this year, regardless of the opponent.

  12. I know the game is over....but can anyone explain to me the rule on the fair catch. If a player signals fair catch....can another player come in..catch the ball and take off. Not complaining at all.......just looking for clarification.

Bourbon jumped out to a 14-0 lead before the Royals knew what hit them. Lots of speed at every position for the Colonels. Mason County had plenty of chances but seemed to get bogged down in the red zone. Killer play was the kick return for a TD that everybody thought was made after a fair catch signal - still a close (something like 21-10) game at that point. Glad to see starting QB Pope back for BC ; and congrats to the Colonels on the win!

Congrats also to the Royals. From 2-8 and missing the playoffs in a relatively weak 6-team district to back-to-back regional finals appearances and the first 12-0 start in school history.

  13. Rico Hill came to Mason County last year as a Soph......but the season had already started an it was to late to begin playing. I am wanting to say he came in from Tenn. But I am not certain on this. Regardless...he is a stud and along side Nelson, the two make a great backfield for the Royals. Coach Buchanan an his staff does an excellent job with the play calling for each one.

  14. Guard play will be much improved this year and will be surprised if it becomes an issue this season. Mason Co. will not have the best individual player in the 10th Region, I know. But they will have about ten players who have played together for years (since about 4th grade) and all are about equal with each other talent wise. But........they have not proved anything to date at the Varsity level.
