  1. That was basically what I had heard. But since I obviously wasn't there I was curious because from my understanding his father was quite ticked off and expressed his displeasure pretty adamantly and also got tossed. Then on Friday the kid was to serve his second game suspension in which his father was livid because they were under the impression he would only have to sit out 1 game. The parents of some of the other kids on the Conner squad thought he had lost his mind. Got to love parents. There is being proud and passionate for your kids and then there is just insanity. KHSAA has always been 2 games for suspension if I recall correctly.

  2. Just not worth replying to this claim! Al I can say, if you know of anything going on illegally at CovCath notify the KHSAA!

I was not taking a shot at Cov Cath if that is what your implying. I was making a general statement about private/prep schools. I was just stating something that is fairly common knowledge in the private/prep school world. But it would be pretty naive to believe that EVERY athlete's tuition that is being paid is coming from their own parents check books. But like I said this was not directly referring to Cov Cath or it's baseball team. Hope that clarifies my comments a little.

  3. Don't misunderstand. I answered your question when you asked if the "majority" of kids were there for football and baseball.

Average class has 125 kids. 45 to 50 come out for frosh football and about 25 to 30 come back for their sophomore year. If your theory was correct there would be a lot of transfers after the freshman year.

Why would a parent pay $6k per year for their son to play football or baseball?

Clyde let's be perfectly clear here. While I agree with most of your statements, NOT every stud athlete's parents is paying. Just ask to see the public financial's of any private high school institution in the state. Now that is not saying that EVERY athlete's parents that plays there isn't paying. But it is quite common and fairly public what goes on at "all boys" schools that are producing high quality athletics. Just ask St. X in Cincy or the thousands of them around the nation. Not a big secret.

  4. Just curious. Where was CONNER picked to finish last season? They had a fine season and were VERY close to making it to Lexington, right? I think they like playing with a chip on their shoulder. Beat some really good teams last year and I think most would agree they were a surprise to make it to the 9th Region final. Based on what they have coming back, I think they will contend once again. People will hear about some new names that they have not heard about yet. Conner has some really talented young kids that will contribute this season. Good Luck to the Cougars this Spring.

I agree with Roman Empire. My buddy's kid plays ball for Conner and one of the "old" guys that goes to a lot of the games said the same thing. I hear there is a couple of underclassmen that could really help their squad. And word is that their Freshmen and 8th grader's if they can keep them intact will be a force in a couple years.

They definitely over achieved last year. But who says they can't make another run ? I am not as sold on their pitching depth as some are either. This team will go as far as Freese and Maines takes them. I still believe its Cov Cath's and Holy Cross' to lose. You have no idea how I hate to admit that. But that is why they play the games.

  5. Not showing to much love for Conner? 2 years ago the JV won the 9th as sophomores. As juniors made it to the championship game. Now as seniors you have them listed 7th? Mendoza do you really follow high school baseball? By the way they also knocked out Cov Cath last year.

No offense Wildcat but you kind of sound like a Conner parent. I actually like Conner this year as well. I think they could go deep in Regionals again. But its so early that I also believe that to be true for about 6-7 teams. One thing is for sure, they will be competitive. I root for all of the Boone County high schools. Born and raised. 45 years now.

  6. Just like in Basketball getting out of the 35th is going to be tough.

My only change would be moving Conner up to 5. While Teegarden is indeed a stud, not quite sure about the rest of the team on the "D" side of the ball and as I have said Pitching and Defense will win the Ninth Region this year.

It will definitely be interesting to see how the Rebels will gel and rally around Teegarden. They have the potential like a lot of teams in the 9th to do well but they also have the potential to fall apart as well. Should be a fun year.
