No blocking, no tackling ......bottom line. Thats what happens when kids don't show up for practice but still play in the game. Game was a mud bowl and half of Dayton's starters looked like they just walked out of the dry cleaners.....pathetic display.....I really feel sorry for the kids on the team that show up every day for practice and that really care about the team, and sit the bench....they sure couldn't have played any worse than the ones that played the whole game!!!

Sorry I thought I was tristatesports.com but it was on twitter through facebook on trischoolsports. Not sure if you have facebook or not but try "trischoolsports"

Elliott Rust is a beast!!!! Great player and awesome coach....he's been passing his skills onto some Jr.high kids at Newcath!!!
-
I agree #3 for Holy Cross should have been ejected, can't say I'm surprised by his or any of their players behavior given the behavior of their coach on the side lines last night.....we could hear Coach Koz across the field from the top of the bleachers.

Pretty good pics of game, including one off Mason Meyers tackle of Holy cross #22 on the 3 yard line, on Tristatefootball.com!!!! Breds played a hell of a game. I sat next to some parents of some senior players from Holy cross and lets just say they were less than happy with coach Koz....they kept yelling, "coach our defense sucks!!" I thought the game would be much closer than it was!! Congrats Breds!!!

I know on Thursday the only practiced with 16 or 17.

They've got too many key players out hurt.

Interesting...so you are basing your definition of rivalry on "atmosphere" rather what is at stake on the field? So is it more about the fans reaction to each other or their excitement toward their team (numbers they bring, cheering throughout game, tailgate ability(!), etc.) that makes atmosphere? Or it the lack of atmosphere (ultimately, a "true rivalry") due to a superior win-loss record of one team over another so much that team #1's fans are bored thinking "gee, do we have to play them again?" How many games does team #2 have to w
in for it to be a rivalry? How many games does team #2 have to lose for it to not be a rivalry? Watch how you answer some of these questions! Consider the UK-UT football border series...here's a quote..."in 2010 Kentucky once again failed to beat its other arch rival Tennessee, having lost 26 in a row to the Vols, the longest, and most disgraceful, losing streak by one team to another in college football". Rivalry? Yes/No? If NCC vs HC, Newport vs. Covington, Catholic vs. Catholic, 2A vs. 2A, Bred vs. Indian is not a rivalry, what is? Would it help if somebody could organize an effort to steal that annoying train whistle and throw it into the Licking River?:sssh: Would that help the atmosphere?
Lol I'd like to see someone try to take that whistle from Mr. Burns, lol....it's only annoying to the people on the other end of the ball....I agree with CGG....it goes off every time NCC scores, of course you would hate it.

You have a point, but last year NCC played Owensboro Catholic for 2A title they were 13-1...and NCC beat them, in a blow out.
-
You did miss the point. The point was the game didn't matter at all. Since it matters to you, get a hobby. Go back and watch it again so you get your facts straight. Do you need a copy of it? It was 4 TD's for Cooper and 3 TD's for NCC. What was your point about the 2nd and 3rd team for NCC being in in the 3rd and 4th quarters? Cooper had their backups in as well. Again, since your not getting it, it doesnt matter
If the game didn't matter, then why bring it up??? It doesn't matter to me, I was just correcting you. Apparently you need to rewatch the game or you can't count. I know what the point is, the game this week is all that does matter, I was just making my own point that if you're going to post something at least get it right!
-
Not on the film I saw, but the point I was trying to make was who cares. That game/scrimmage doesn't matter. Neither does any other game than this week. You missed the point
You're the one that mentioned the game, and I just watched the game on video, and although they didn't do kickoff/kickoff return and Newcath's 2nd/3rd string played the 3rd and 4th quarters, Newcath DID win 27-21. I didn't miss the point, if you gonna post something at least have your facts straight.
-
I don't remember the score but Newcath beat Copper during that scrimmage...I was there for that game it was during that Tom Potter tournament.Cooper won the 5A district up here. They cant be too bad. They beat NCC in their scrimmage at the beginning of the year. Does that matter? Of course not. BW beating HC this year, does that matter? Of course not. NCC letting less points be scored on their backups that HC's backups in the district, does that matter? Of course not. Most of these points people are tyring to make doesn't matter. This is the postseason. What matters isPp this week.NCC beat Dixie, who was suppose to be soooooo good, without Pike(which was the main reason people thought they would be good). I guess, looking at NCC's schedule, their signature win was HC? Im sure they wouldn't say that, but who would it be? Most of the teams on their schedule have a losing record. I would like to know who NCC fans think was their big win, since HC didn't beat anyone but the Sisters of the Poor

Wow....looks like the Breds brought it!!!!
-
Sleep tight....I am glad NCC fans are that confident...
Why shouldn't they be????

Makes you wonder WHAT?
Watch the game tape/play where Hightchew gets injured and ask what?!?!?!?:idunno:
-
The only thing "greater" about Cincinnati is the fact that it's connected to Northern Kentucky. When someone asks me where I'm from, I say NKY. I would never, ever claim to be from Cincinnati or Ohio for that matter.
CAN I GET AN AMEN TO THAT?!?!?!?:ylsuper:

I agree MEMYSELFANDI, someone posted on here about NCC's Hightchew having a bad ankle going into the Beechwood game, and then he's taken out of the game, with an ankle injury.....makes you wonder!!!
-
NCC is pretty banged up as well. The loss of Thacker on both sides of the ball was hugh, and now they are down to their third team center. At least two other linemen are nursing injuries, but still playing. Collopy, and Hayes are both playing hurt, as is Hightchew, playing with a bad ankle, and a busted up throwing elbow. It's going to be a tough weekend for the Breds, trying to catch Volke, and Nussbalm!
Their starting center is their 2nd string/ back up center....he has been centering since Thacker got hurt, with exception of a couple of games......who are the 2 lineman that are supposed to be hurt?

Here is what is at stake for local teams:
1A: Beechwood (7-1, 2-0), Bellevue (4-4, 1-1), Ludlow (2-6, 1-1), Dayton (1-7, 0-2).
Assuming Beechwood beats Ludlow, Bellevue would likely get the No. 2 seed and a first-round home game whether it beats Dayton or not. Bellevue would clinch the two seed outright with a win and has a huge edge in the numbers if there is a three-way tie for second at 1-2. Dayton could get second or third by beating Bellevue.
Should Ludlow pull the huge upset, Ludlow would get the top seed unless Bellevue wins as well, creating a three-way tie. Beechwood has a huge edge in the tiebreaker there.
2A, District 6: Newport Central Catholic (8-0, 3-0), Holy Cross (6-2, 3-0), Newport (4-5, 1-2), Lloyd (3-5, 1-2), Brossart (3-5, 0-4).
The seeds will be decided at Newport Stadium this weekend. The Lloyd/Newport winner Friday will be the three seed and the loser the four. Holy Cross and NewCath will play Saturday for the district title, with the loser getting the two seed and a first-round home game. Brossart is eliminated from playoff contention.
4A: Highlands (8-0, 4-0), Covington Catholic (6-2, 2-1), Holmes (4-4, 2-1), Harrison County (1-7, 0-3), Pendleton County (1-7, 0-3).
Highlands is the district champ. Holmes and Cov Cath meet Saturday for the two seed and a first-round home game, with the loser being the three seed. Harrison or Pendleton will at best be a 3-7 playoff team.
6A: Campbell County (3-5, 3-0), Ryle (5-3, 2-1), Dixie Heights (3-5, 2-1), Boone County (5-3, 1-2), Simon Kenton (2-6, 0-4).
Usually it takes an abacus, a slide rule and a book by Pythagoras to figure out this district, but not this year. Although many combinations of two-way ties are possible, the seeds are easy to sort out because of head-to-head results.
No matter who wins the Campbell/Boone game, Campbell is the district champ and Boone the four seed. Ryle and Dixie Heights will play Friday for the two seed and first-round home game, with the loser being the three seed. SK finishes in fifth place and under the KHSAA realignment plan will be slotted as the fourth seed in District 2. SK will travel to national power Louisville Trinity in the first round of the playoffs.

It is the annual battle for the Firemen's Bell. NewCath won 11 times in a row from 1986-1996 until Newport won 3 in a row from 1997-1999. After that, NewCath has won the next 11 from 2000-2010.

NCC needs time to heal.
NCC has had a couple sophomores step up to fill in for injured players, Brooks at center and middle line backer, and Kalvin Moore in on the line. Both played pretty good Friday against Lloyd. Pete Callopy is back this week. The good thing is, when one player gets hurt there are mulitple players eager to fill in for that position. I'm defiantley picking NCC for this game.
