  1. QB and O-Line. All new faces and names. With any new faces and names there is uncertainty. There may be a 2 way or 3 way battle at QB. I expect a 2 way battle between Tommy Hastings and Casey Whittle. Been hearing Hastings has the edge right now but we haven't gotten to July yet so I am taking that with a grain of salt. I am not worried but if there was a cause for concern anywhere on this year's team it is those two areas. I do trust our coaches to have the proper personnel on the field and ready to play. Knowing that Devon Cox will be in the backfield and that Jarrod Harrington catches absolutely everything thrown in his direction I don't worry much. Lloyd Hall and Blake Mason also have proven to have dependable hands as well. We just need to make sure our QB has time when needed, makes the right decisions and that Devon has some holes to run through. I love our talent at the skilled positions.

We replace Lamar Dawson and Chris Cook at LB. We won't replace Lamar's ability/potential as a linebacker but I don't expect to see any drop off in production at any linebacker spot. Zach Hester was arguably the second best LB on the team when healthy and he'll be back and Kyle Kephart is similar to Chris Cook. Not sure who will fill in the two spots at linebacker that are open but I am not worried about those spots. There are likely only 3 spots open on the entire defense and there will likely be some fierce competition for those 3 spots as well. I have no worries or concerns whatsoever with defense.

I'm sure Coach Roe will have the new line coached up and ready by August!

  2. I get what you're saying but books are becoming outdated. If I want an answer to a question or more info on a subject I'm turning to Google not Barnes & Noble or the local library. Sure there are books out there that interest me but I'd rather keep up on current events and do other things than spend time reading a book over the course of days or weeks. I work 40 hours a week and go to school full time, when I'm not studying, or doing school work, I just don't want to pick up another book that I don't have to read.

I'd agree that with e-books, kindles (sp?), et cetera, the physical book is fading out. However, I think the notion of the book will never be outdated. Lengthy, well researched, well written expression (be it fiction or non-fiction) will trump "google answers" every time, in my opinion.

  3. Wow, the guy hasn't even been named and he should keep the old staff? If this guy has been coaching at a local high school then Im sure he has coaches in mind. BRAVES1 said it best, IF he is allowed to choose his own staff, this guy needs to blow this thing up, start new. And DRKARK I hope he brings back Coach Wilmhoff!!

I was just curious if it would be difficult to assemble a staff (you never know what teaching jobs will open in a school, and it seems funding is tight for new positions in most states) and if some of those guys were willing to help. Is there a problem with the old staff?

  4. As of last night all interviews have been completed and a person should be named by tomorrow hopefully, yes Dave Smith known to most Smitty has done temendous job keeping the players active and working out if not running track or playing baseball. He is a great person and good coach. JD

Glad to see progress being made. Are any of the other coaches planning on staying? Would it be difficult for the new coach to get a staff together?

  5. Dave Smith has been keeping the lifting program going with some help from the other assistant coaches. They need to name a head coach soon so those kids can get on track. Dave Smith has played a big role in keeping what kids he can in that weight room so I hope whoever the new head coach is will look at a guy like Coach Smith and keep him on board..

Sounds like the off season is running as it would otherwise, which is a good thing. Good luch to Coach Smith. I was just curious if any of the staff was wanting to stay. Reading some of the earlier posts, they've taken some heat to say the least.
