  1. Congratulations to the Georgetown College Women's basketball team for extending their best start in program history and going undefeated in non-conference play. They moved to 15-0 on the season Saturday afternoon with a 68-59 win over Martin Methodist.

If you want to read more on the win yesterday and the Tigers non-conference run, here is a great article from Kal Oakes with News-Graphic, Georgetown, KY.

On Saturday, January 5th, Georgetown will open Mid-South Conference play by hosting No. 5 Campbellsville. The Mid-South Conference is brutal with 3 teams ranked in the NAIA D1 top twenty, two of those ranked in the top ten. (Campbellsville, Shawnee State)

It will be interesting to see how much Georgetown can continue it's success through a nationally respected and competitive Mid-South.

  2. I liked Jones when I saw them play. Nice player. How many did the other Stamper girl get? She is supposed to be their best player.

Morgan Stamper had 7. Walton did a good job defending her.

I really like Jones also. She is smooth and strong with the ball under defensive pressure, creates for herself and her team mates, and is able to defend out in space on the perimeter. In my opinion, she brings the most overall value to their team. With Niece graduating, Jones is just learning the point guard position, so she is just going to get better and better.

  3. Congratulations! That's no easy accomplishment.

Will she play volleyball for the Falcons?

No, and I do apologize if I misled. Ellie had some encouragement from her coaches about pursuing volleyball at the next level. They felt she could find a nice fit somewhere to keep playing, however she never had much interest. Her eyes have been on this prize for a while. Thank you for asking though.

  4. Ellie Ison, a Senior at Walton-Verona High School, has received an appointment from the United States Airforce Academy. As a setter over the last two seasons, Ellie helped lead the Bearcats to a combined 50 - 24 record, two district championships and 2 8th Region ALL A championships. Ellie will now join the best of the best of our nation and fulfill her dream of attending the USAFA! Congrats Ellie on all your hard work!! :dancingpa:ylsuper:

  5. :dancingpa Great job Bearcats!

And congrats to all the ladies that made the all tournament team!

  6. Dixiefan

Not touchy:idunno:, just very confused about a comment that had nothing to do with the topic that was being discussed.:isurrender:

To Dixiefan's defense, how his comment pertained to the thread was actually very obvious for those who were on this forum during regional tournaments in 2016. Prior to the SK vs Trimble 8th regional final that he referenced, many people posted similar statements as in post 2 and 3. Basically, the consensus was SK would run Trimble in the ground. To the surprise of many (Except the town of Bedford and a few others) Trimble won the game and went to the state tournament.

In light of post 2 and 3, I understood his reference. Campbell is a dandy ball club having a special season, BUT they better come ready to play. They certainly have the potential to "crush Dixie" but teams don't always play to their potential.

  7. Cecil from Dunbar leads all scorers with 21. WV's Poore hits 5 three's for 15!

Here is the box score for both teams...

    Walton-Verona - Perry 6 6 18, Poore 5 0 15, Strunk 2 4 8, Michael 1 4 6, Neeley 1 3 5, Hicks 1 0 3, Gutman 1 0 2. Totals: 17 17 57

    Dunbar - Cecil 6 9 21, Coons 5 5 15, Cecil 0 4 4, Colton 1 1 3, Humphreys 0 3 3, Fullwood 0 2 2, Humphreys 0 2 2. Totals: 13 24 50

Halftime: WV 30-25. 3-pointers: WV 6 (Poore 5, Hicks); PD (none)

  8. The wife and I took it in. It sure was warm in there but it was a great crowd for the opener! And wow, it was awesome to see Michaela Kennedy light it up in her debut. Those 3 three pointers late in the first half had to be in just about two minutes. As you stated, I was also very impressed with the other freshmen Williams. I had been hearing good things about her from practice and she did not disappoint.

Coach Jackson ended up with a dandy freshmen class. And I saw on Twitter yesterday that they got a very big commitment from a class of 18 player, that from what I hear, is NCAA D1 caliber.
