  1. Not only is coach Miller a very good coach he is a even better person and has shown nothing but class in spite of all the silly scrutiny played out online despite winning the A twice, region finals appearance and now a region championship in his 3 years. There is alot of talent there but sometimes alot of talent is hard to coach for various reasons. WV should be proud to have some a classy person who is also a good coach.

I have to agree! Coach Miller has done a wonderful job of cleaning up the mess the previous two coaches left him to deal with. Coach Miller and his coaching staff do a great job. WV you should be proud and good luck at Diddle.

  2. I'm not involved with the WV program but, what role does Coach Luebbe have in the program now? Or, is he just a parent/fan these days.

Word is down here he was the head coach at Walton a few years back, then the administration decided to go a different direction. We have heard that he is heavily involved in building the "feeder system" as people at Walton call it, if ya know what I mean.

  3. I believe you could make a very strong case for Gayheart, Whitfield, or Wainscott to be player of the year. They all three put up big stat numbers along with playing great defense. All three are completely well rounded players on both ends of the floor. They are all key players that make their team successful. Remove any of them from their current team and South, Owen and Simon are not very successful. South has the most depth beyond Whitfield, and the best chance to still be successful without her. Simon would probably win about half their games if they did not have Wainscott. And Owen would be well below 500 without Gayheart.

  4. What happened to the "Best" team in the region? All we heard two or three weeks ago was how great they are. Now they are struggling to win a game. Could it be that they were over confident or over rated? Could it be their coach was over confident or over rated? That might explain why they only had one practice leading up to the game against a strong Owen County team. The coach must have thought they were returning to their usually week schedule and was not concerned. As a wise man once said "That's why we play the games". From what I have seen Walton is not near as good, or deep as they think they are. I only witnessed them having two or three offensive scoring threats, then after that you could play anyone off the bench and it would not make a bit of difference. I still maintain that South is the "Best" team in the region. I also think four or five teams have a shot to win it. It should make for a great tournament. Go South!

  5. Scoring is not the only way a player can contribute on the court ....that is however what they seem to be graded on....Taulbee also stands in the top portion of the team in rebounds and steals. She also handles the ball very well. As far as WV getting a gift from the officials....if you were there you would have seen that this went both ways.....South got their gift first, they just weren't able to reap the benefits of it. WV was given the "same" gift and was able to nail it. WV played with minimal turnovers, good guarding, and as one with South...hence the outcome. None, if any of these factors were observed in the NCC game.....hopefully they will realize this very soon.....

Not sure what game you were watching. I have not seen so much home cooking going on in one place in a long time. I had to check and make sure I was not at Cracker Barrel. That was one of the worst officiated games down the stretch I have ever witnessed. Three officials and not one blew the whistle when your big girl clearly dribbled it out of bounds. Are you kidding me? If that call is made the game is over. Not to mention the make believe intentional foul. Wow if you can't see that it might be time to get your eyes checked, and take those officials with you to when you go. The officials completely controlled the outcome of this game. It is OK to admit it we all know. There's no shame in admitting it, its no secret.

  6. Guard problems at Walton? Who would have thought? It seems as Walton has been struggling a little lately. They got an absolute gift from the officials at their place against South. Then got blasted by NCC last night. It seems as though things might not be going very smooth for the lady bearcats right now. Not a good time to be falling apart with the all "A" tournament approaching.

  7. Anderson County, Walton-Verona, and South Oldham will be the class of the 8th Region. The rest you can put in a hat, shake em up, and start picking names. Quite frankly, Owen County might not be the best in the 31st District.

South Oldham took a pretty good beating against Boone Co. this weekend. Unsure if they are worthy of their ranking right now. I look for them to get it turned around prior to the start of the season.

  8. [quote=Cannon Crazy;3942730Now one other thing that I totally disagree with is strength of schedule. All I hear is that Walton played a weak schedule last year, so lets state the facts:

Anderson's opponents record was .577% from last year

Simon Kenton's opponents record was .524% from last year

South Oldham's opponents record was .504% from last year

Walton's opponents record was .52% from last year

So how does everybody keep saying that one or the other has a tougher schedule?

Look at the teams that each played.

If Walton played South Oldham or Anderson County's schedule, my guess would have been 12 - 15 wins. Most of the teams South and Anderson played were much larger schools where the talent pool is greater. Most of the teams have an abundance of athletic players on them. That is something Walton lacks. Walton seems to have nice basketball players with good size, but lack the overall athletes and speed that other teams may have. Coach Miller did a great job molding his team into his system, but when they come up against a quick athletic teams like a South Oldham or Anderson that will pressure them and force the tempo, Walton will have issues. JMO.

On the 25 games that Walton won, their opponents were a combined 315 wins and 348 losses (47.5%). Of these wins, 4 were against Carroll Co (14-14)., 3 each were against Owen Co. (17-10), Gallatin Co. (13-12) and Grant Co. (10-17), 2 wins were against Williamstown (9-18) and 1 each against Connor (12-13), Holy Cross (12-16), Dixie (6-19), Henry Co (15-10)., Dayton (12-15), Trimble Co. (6-17), North Oldham (14-10), Owsley Co. (18-8), Lloyd (5-22) and Simon Kenton (21-9).

In their 5 losses, their opponents were a combined 111 wins and 41 losses (73.0%). Looks to me Walton's schedule certainly played into their favor.

  10. Are you serious? I think W-V fans are a little too optimistic. I am a firm believer that actions speak louder than words. After W-V has some quality wins in the 8th you can boast. Taulbee, Sandlin, and Slavey were on the same AAU team this summer. Yes, they can shoot, but they won one game at state AAU. A team must play defense to win. The

8th has several good, athletic teams. It will take offense, defense, and a little luck to win the region this year. I am very optimistic about South. We had a great summer.

South Oldham has a real good chance to cut the nets down in the region come March. Very athletic and defend well. It is going to be an interesting year in the 8th.

  11. I agree! Very excited about the Lady Panthers and I really like watching my little "home grown" team improve and play well. If I judge from the summer play this is going to be a good year for the Lady Panthers.

I think there are several other teams that many are overlooking also..but give WV their due I am sure they will be great.

Carroll has an outstanding coach. If they can get some scoring help for Devine, they can have a very good season.

L1, are you saying some schools don't have "home grown" players?

  12. Walton did very well last yr, returns everyone and adds a very good player and you think they are being too optimistic. Plus, not to mention that they had a great summer too. We will just have to wait and see.

Walton does return just about everyone and as someone else says adds Judy and Clinkenbeard back from injury. That should give them Dixon, Lay, Slavey, Ginn, Hoffa, Taulbee, Sandlin, Judy, Clinkenbeard and Mullikin sharing minutes. What is going to happen when "Little Sally" is sitting on the bench not getting to play. How will the Walton faithful react then when their own may not be playing as much as they think they should be?

  13. Individual player rankings are generally just not very good. It's so hard to compare girls across region who play on varying levels of teams. I dont want to talk about specific girls on this list, just overall hard to compare a player playing on a really good team who plays top state level competition game in and game out to one who plays on a lesser team against lesser competition. Numbers really have little impact in the discussion IMO.

I don't know how much the level of competition comes into play here. Any of the players on my list could play for another top level team in the region and do just fine and make that team better. All because the competition may be less as you say, dolsn't mean the player's talent level is less. JMO.

  14. Teams - Shelby Co. is too high. I would add Williamstown into the top 10.

Players - Dixon too high, Whitfield too low. Willhoite and possibly Hill should be on the list replacing Bryant and Sandlin. My top 10 would be:

    1. Sydni Wainscott

    2. Jasmine Whitfield

    3. Aaliyah Wells

    4. Rianna Gayhart

    5. Eriel McKee

    6. Kelli Dixon

    7. Tori Willhoite

    8. Hannah Devine

    9. Brooke Hill

    10. Sydney Brown
