  1. Your are Correct! Once again, I appollogize for offending anyone for the pros/cons of Grant Post. Complaining does not need to be to a coach for it to be complaining. Every coach and staff member of any sport team is critisized and under a microscope. The audience is often parents and sometimes staff member of families whom most people may not know. I personally know a staff member at Grant very well and people talk about the program everywhere, stands, restroom, concession stands, to and from building as if people can not hear them. The staff member i know always says he does not care about what fans are complaining about or who is complaining. Just what it takes to improve. Critizism is part of the game. I did not intend to direct anything toward the crediability of any atheletes. Again I appolligize.

Lurked aroudn BGP for many years and have enjoyed reading everyones humor and insight associated to HS basketball. Basketball has been a passionate part of my life for 35 years; player, fan, coach, referee, spectator, and most importantly - a parent. IMO, the GC program has experienced a few memorable highs and some unwanted lows during these yrs. Coach Kinmon and Coach Utter have always been respected and have done an excellent job considering the circumstances that were imposed on them by a previous administration. Its difficult to build or improve a program without the resources/facilities and looking back at the post from "ShotDoc - The Pros and Cons at Grant", he/she is correct for most comments. Interested coaches should take note of these too! However, I too have taken note to comment #4 in the con section. The 3 players pointed out here are first class students who have their act together and have shown great sportsmanship over the years. I know for fact that the asst supers kid have never approached/complained about a lack of playing time. He's a straight "A" student, #4 in academics jr. class, and an excellent golf, which is his bread and butter to the next level. If anything were ever said to a coach, it was the father asking a coach to push him harder or standing up for another player. And yes, all 3 of players were part of the successful freshment and jv teams that you mentioned. Now that you've taken their ball and gone home, do you think the kids will have a chance? Probably not!

Whomever the coach will be, Coach Utter or a new one, there is definetly an opportunity and challenge awaiting them. Good luck to whoever applies and I can honestly say that the community will support you. If Coach Wright from SL were to apply and get this job, I've been told it'd be like a family reunion down there :)

  2. Agreed. My applogies if I offended anyone in My Pros and Cons post.

I don't think change will be hard for the community. Kinmon seems to support the school and community as a whole. I don't think he will be in the way of progress for the program. He has a kid coming up and I am sure he wants to see the program be successful.
  3. Why apply at Grant?

1-Opportunity, it is a head coaching position.

2-It is a good location. Rural but still close to Northern Ky.

3-The support staff is excellant becuase they have done it for twenty 25+ years

4-Opportunity to compete in the top half of the 8th region.

5-Opportunity to improve school. In the last 10 season Grant is 134-155, with only 1 winning season in the past 6 years. If you can go a little over 500 you have done a major accomplishment.

6-You have a lot of guards returning with experience to start "rebuilding" (3 starters at guards, 2 guard subs averaging double digit minutes).

8-The freshman and JV teams were successful this year at Grant.

    7-Winnning does not matter

Reasons NOT to apply at Grant?

1-Winning does not matter within school district. Only matters to coaches, players, and fans. Winning is not a priority.

2-You will never get the gym time your team deserves. When you do get gym time there will be 2 other teams running and lifting during your practice in the gym.

3-Support staff may not stay much longer.

4-You have a school board members kid, ast. superindants kid, booster presidents grand kid on the team...that of course do not get to play enough.

5-You are going to be one of the smallest teams in the region for the next 3-5 years.

6-The feeder sytem of the district needs a lot of improvement. Middle school and elementary schoools.

7-Time. You will need serveral years to fix issues that may not be able to be fixed by a coach.

8-All athletics at Grant are not as important as they are in all other schools. It is not used to build school spirit, morale, and generate pride.

9-Change is going to be difficult on the community since Kinmon was there for 11 years.

10-Best chances of winning involves lots of cuts and self motivated individuals.

GOOD LUCK TO THE NEW COACH and the Future Braves!
