  1. Short week for Mercer playing on Thursday after playing on Saturday.

    Gotta consider that.

Coach B would never use that as an excuse. Give that man 2 days in between games to prepare and he'd come up with a game plan to cover the fatigue. I hate to see Mercer on the losing end, but the season is young and they'll bounce back.

  2. Bracken County was 13-80 all-time before he arrived. Took over what was a bottom 5 football program in the state of Kentucky and has had success there.

Bracken County didn't know if they were going to have a team the year he arrived.

You're not going to find anybody that's done more with less.

This is 100% true. Best of luck to Coach Sizemore. He's a good man and a good coach!

  3. I know Lewis County is more NEKy, but I'd like to mention Tay Offut. He'll be a senior this year. Last season, his first season playing football at the HS level, he caught 49 passes for 611 yards and 7 TD's. He also returned 3 Kicks for TD's. He is an exceptional young man and was one of the few bright spots on a young, injury-ridden 1-9 team.

  4. I just looked at the rosters of Alabama and Auburn....two perennial top 20 team from the same state.

Alabama has over 40 from Alabama on the roster. Auburn also has over 40 players from the state of Alabama on the roster.

80 combined in-state players for Alabama and Auburn from the state of Alabama and 17 combined from UK and UofL from the state of Kentucky?

    WOW!

It is surprising at first sight, but Alabama is a football state. I do think the quality of players in KY is getting better, but until football is more of the front-runner in KY, then we will see things like this. Hopefully that is where we are headed.

  5. I couldn't agree more. Coach Sizemore is doing an excellent job at Bracken. I saw him at the UK game Saturday and talked to him a bit about the game Friday. I know it was a tough loss to take, but he mentioned the season as a whole and there's no doubt in my mind that it was a success. I'm still a little jaded that Bracken didn't start football before I graduated, but I'm very pleased with Coach Sizemore and the players for creating a stable program. It is very well deserved. Best of luck in the off-season and next year as well.

  6. The Lions are probably hoping that the Running Clock has been instituted before they step off the bus ! ! ! !

You are certainly entitled to your own opinions. I just don't see a place on here for comments like these. I don't know of one team that plays football that goes into a game waiving the white flag. I do wish we had the tradition of your Rams. It's an uphill battle to get kids out for football and the kids we have I wouldn't trade for anyone. They compete regardless of what other people think or say. I hate that some of them might read comments like yours. As if this season hasn't been tough enough. I know it's not very likely for your Rams to be in our position for a good long while, but if it happens, I hope your kids don't have to read comments like these. Best of luck to the Rams the rest of the way. They are playing some really good football. As for your speculation...not a single coach or player will prepare for this game by hoping for a running clock before the game starts.

  7. So are you saying that officials are beyond reproach? So it's okay that you can call a game and make every penalty a personal foul? Officials are not volunteers they are being paid to do job. And furthermore if you are an official whom is unsure about a call then don't make that call! It's one thing to miss a call, but when it's ignorance to the rules it's unacceptable and needs to be addressed...When bad officiating costs you a game that ends up costing you your job...Just ask Les Miles

As for Les Miles, the correct call was made after replay and that is not why he lost his job.

As for this thread...Think of how many times you have actually agreed with a call. As coaches you want every play to go your way. In life, and in football, it doesn't always work that way. Some coaches are just as bad as parents in how they talk about or to the officials. It is interesting to note that officials know which coaches are respectful towards them. I'm not saying it buys you calls here and there, but it is just the right thing to do. Officials make mistakes just like we all do. How you handle the bad calls goes a long way to getting that close call in your favor. I don't subscribe to the idea of "working" officials to get a call later in the game, but I do think that when you show them respect they will return the favor. It was brought up in another post that there are 5 guys watching 22 players...just remember that.

As for Officials being evaluated. They should be and they are.

  8. Regardless of the outcome, I'm very proud of the Lewis County Football Lions. We played 4 quarters of everything we had. Effort like that is often overshadowed by the final score. Hats off to Powell County on a hard fought game. Both teams played hard. Absolutely hate to lose, but there is no fault in our effort or the hard work we've put in. Back to work Monday. #RollPride

  9. For any of you that are thinking this will be a running clock, know this...Coach Hop always has his guys ready to play. Their practices are much more difficult than games. No one is doubting that West has speed and weapons to score. This will be a physical game and I don't think either team will score 35 points. It's tough for me to pick against either team because I have a ton of respect for both. The team that wins this game will do so by 2 scores or less. Best of luck to both teams.

  10. The JV teams will play each other Monday night. As always, Nicholas is a tough team that will not give up no matter the situation. I respect the heck out of them. I understand the criticisms that have been coming our way. Injuries killed us last year and we played two very good teams our first two weeks this year. We have done nothing to make anyone think otherwise, and until we do, I'm sure we will continue to get predictions like these. That's what I like about our football team...they hate it when people tell them they can't do something. That's as much insight as I can provide. Here's to hoping both teams can avoid any major injuries.

  11. For those of us fortunate enough to know Coach Graham, we already know this to be true. I do believe Coach Peterson to be a stand-up guy as well, and the football team is in good hands...however, there should never have been a Head Coaching change. Coach Graham will rise up from this unfortunate situation. He is a very good man and the players and students of Rowan County are missing out on an exceptional leader.

  12. Just like with the R2, it takes a little getting used to. Our QB likes the ball. We practiced at 8:30 a.m. A lot in July and our QB's liked the tackiness when the ball got wet. When you first air it up you'll think it's very pointy on the ends, but throw it around (and drop it like we do too much) and it evens out. So far so good. We will see if it's as durable long term.

  13. First off, hats off to east carter. They have been coached well and will most certainly have more success this year. They brought it to us the entire game.

About Nicholas county. 90% of their offensive production didn't even have pads on. Richardson is a game changer and no one should sleep on the blue jackets. Coach Hop always seems like he's so mad at his players, but you can ask them and they'll tell you how much they love him. He has high expectations...which leads to them always giving 100% when it matters. Fleming is a good team, but it would have been a closer score if Richardson and Dailey would have played.

For us, we have a lot of work to do. Saw some good things from our players. I love the fight we had. To comeback on a much improved Raider team is something we can build on.

    Roll Pride!

  14. Of course I knew I had to get a 2nd Masters Degree. It's not Grant's or State of Ky's fault I chose not to go back to school. I have a Bach Degree from Georgetown and a Masters from Xavier. I've been teaching and coaching for 31 years, I'm 55 years old so I decided not to get another Degree. We have great kids and great parent support so the Program will be just fine.

Well there you have it. A Stand-Up guy like Coach Siple telling you exactly how it is. No more need for speculation. Best of luck to you Coach.

  15. Wilson is by far the best football.

Of all of the footballs that we have used, I would agree with you. However, we haven't given this football a shot yet. We have ordered some and will give them a good look. I would think that as much as we complained about Rawlings footballs, KHSAA wouldn't set themselves up for more complaining by choosing an inferior product. I will post on here our thoughts after we have had time to evaluate the Spalding football.
