Nothing against Tim...but the way his situation ended at nearby Williamstown just a few years ago, will probably keep him out of the running IMO.
I don't think you really know how it ended. Mefford is a great Guy and a better coach. What he did at Williamstown is pretty impressive and most Coaches could never make it through it and for that long. He did MORE with less there but people don't see that because they just look at the scores not the talent. Grant Co would do it self good with a Coach like Mefford, he would be there thru thick and THIN!

Why no Love for Mefford? I think he would be really Great for the school and the community. Knows how to build a program.

Hire Tim Mefford. Excellent coach and great man. Plus he has some boys that are going to be players. Win/win combination.

What does the team look like with a new coach and what scrimmages do they have coming up?

No way in the world Simon Kenton should be getting a practice facility unless the funding is coming elsewhere and not by Kenton County Board of Education. My reason is simple Scott sits there with only 1 gym while Dixie and SK have 2 already all Scott's sports have to share the 1 gym. I know the old saying is Scott has a pool but Dixie uses it for practice for their swim team don't know if SK has a swim team and also uses Scott for practice or not. County should let Scott use 1 of SK or Dixie's gym for practice since they only have 1 at Scott.
I guess what I am trying to say is Scott deserves 1 more gym before SK gets a practice facility especially if the practice facility is being paid for by Kenton County.
Can't believe the County would take Kenton Elementary's play ground to make a band field for SK. Whatever happened to the parking lots for band practice come on people the kids need the play ground more!!!!!!!

He has a excellent DR, from UK sports medicine. He was told no contact, until his next apt. He only had surgery 8 months ago, not sure that is enough time to be healed from the extensive surgery he had. So many times, with surgeries, a person will over compensate and end up injuring the other leg.
Surley the Ice Coach will not play him if he is not released by his Dr. I do hope that the Ice Coach is looking out for Travis best interests. I do not want Travis to go throught what he did this past year.
I thought he was playing with DSAS and the reason he wasn't playing was because he wasn't released and the Coach required him to have a Doc Release before playing?

Word is that the DSAS are not in this event, does anyone know if this is true? If so, how can they not be there?

Watched the 16u DS team...they are loaded. Stenzel of GRC. Timmy Knipp of Elliott Co, Fant and Shanklin of Warren Central. They all play so well together.
WKY Elite played well and gave them a good game. They just weren't deep enough to pull it off, but very proud of them. Who is the DSAS coach, Very into on the Sidelines!! Does he coach anywhere? Any word on how the kid that got hurt at the end of the game is doing?

My predictions:
The coaches that put the best (team) players on the floor will win this week-end. There are a ton of great kids that can score in this tourney. The team and players that put there ego's aside and play as a team will come out on top this week-end. I will take a good team over a loaded super stars playing for stats. The "Me" first players may get noticed but hardly ever win Championships.
Well if it comes down to coaching like you say, then that would mean that SS, WKY Elite or the ICE will win the 16's. In the 17's it would be wide open because that field is loaded with great coachins, C. KY Storm, DSAS, SS and Team Kentucky just to name a few.
It is always fun to watch the coaching, just as much as watching the games. WKY Elite :ylsuper:!!!!

I agree with you that you have to go out and take games. No team is going to give it to you. These kids are relentless and they all feel like they are the best. DSAS is likely the best on paper, but dont under estimate the heart of a champion and all of these kids are champions (in that it is likely that most of these kids have won a lot games and/or tournaments).
Also, DSAS is coming in with a target on that jersey, it'll be great to watch how the respond.
I agree, I thought I would see the Charlotte Court and/or the Royal Family.
I think that WKY Elite, ICE and SS are going to show DSAS something this weekend. I believe there isn’t enough basketball to go around on that team. If it comes down to coaching, the ICE has won it and SS has won it, I like the experience of those over DSAS. I really think WKY Elite is going to turn some heads this weekend!! DSAS are loaded and a lot of talk about them walking through it, maybe the BIG HEAD this weekend?:idunno:

I think there is one team that is "loaded" and that is DSAS. What a team they have assembled there. The Lexington Ice and SS are good teams. I've only heard about Fucci for the Ice, and they say he is great. I have seen the SS play a few times and Gilbert and Schuette are real good players. Smith is also a nice player. If Josh Forrest plays for the WKY Elite they will be solid. That kid can carry a team. The NKY Bulldogs also have some nice players in Trammel, Stauffer, and Flesch. I dont know much about Higher Level or The Truth.
Forrest is a STUD, if he plays, that puts that team up there with DSAS. He can carry that team all the way!

Not sure why the WKY Elite are listed twice unless they have 2 teams. I am surprised the DSAS 16's are playing in this tournament. I thought they would play up.
Pool 2 should be a good pool and very interesting to watch the NKY Bulldogs (former Shining Stars players) play against the current Shining Stars.
Does anyone know who this Higher Level team is?

Who are some of the teams entered? The schedule and pools won't be out until Tuesday or Wednesday, who are the teams and players you are interested in see play next weekend at the KBA?

What tourneys are the HS age teams playing in this weekend?
DSAS 17, DSAS 16, Team Kentucky, The Truth, Fairdale, KY Firebirds and the KY Players are at Sports Plus in Cincinnati this weekend for the Queen City Showcase.
Any others?
DSAS16, are they playing up, cause the other teams seem to be 17's, correct? Do you have the pools and Schedule?

I don't think he would be forced to play early or hurt but I don't want to see it happen either. It just sounded like some excitement to get him on the floor for the state AAU in 2 weeks and that just seems early for a player with 2 years of HS ball ahead of him.
He played for DS on their 16U team but with the Ice 15U that won state and faired well at Nationals too. The Ice lost a great player and person in Purvis.
You made it sound like this Coach for the DS would push him to get on the floor earlier than he should. If he is suppose to be this great coach, why would he try to push a kid to play early if he isn't ready. To me that would hurt him in getting any job. But then again I don't know this coach or his history. Is he that kind of a coach that would look out for himself rather than the player?

Maschmeyer and Purvis didn't play this weekend. Shanklin and Nickel are still far from 100% due to injuries this past season. When this team gets everyone 100% healthy, they will be as good as any team they will play this summer.
How ponits a game is this bunch scoring? What kind of style?

He is also one of the most interesting ones to watch on the sidelines, he really gets into the games, and in a good and positive way!
How long has he Coached AAU? I have seen the DS 17's play a lot but not the 16's. The 17's are always fun to watch!

That is what I heard last year as well. They are very poorly coached during the summer.
Speaking of coaching, who are the coaches that are coaching these teams? Are they parents or what?

This would REALLY tick me off! Yes I want Gillispie to stay, But WHY go through all of this unless you have a BIG NAME coach ready to sign? This would make NO SENSE what so ever! It's you either have a big name to replace him or not, not a plan B, then maybe a C.
I am starting to think that they aren't going to do a thing and give him more time. In today's economy, 6 million is a lot and just 2 years. What is the standard that we are setting? What coach would want to be under that pressure. Believe me I want Billy D or Tom Izzo, but if you can't get either one of them, better off letting it be!
