  1. The one big argument settled tonight was the "who's the best player in the region?" I think O'Mara settled that on the court with her play tonight. Great game for the Lady Royals.

Guess I didn't realize this game determined who the 10th region mvp is. Two very good players for sure,2nd week of the season ,and alot of very good talent around the 10th.

As for the basketball part of the game... SK won the first 8 min. By 5 or 6. The second 8 min saw them use a lot of the bench and SK won by 2. The 3rd 8min is where things got a bit physical and the episode happened as stated above. Haven't been around 10th region refs much at all, but a lot of the calls and "non calls" kind of put me in mind of a good old down home 8th region game at Gallitin or Oldham.LOL IMO it wasn't the physicality of play that upset coach Stowers, but the very obvious one sidedness on the part of the officials at times. But that is a whole other topic that I'm sure will be visited again and again as always... SK did lose that period by 1. Actually that period seemed to wake up SK and they reeled off the first 12pts of the final period and won it by 12 or 14. Brossart does have a tough scrappy team. What they lack in size and talent they make up for in hustle and toughness.

I have to correct some incorrect statments, (keeping in mind that both teams played very hard and it was ONLY a scrimmage.)Brossart won first and second periods by 2 pts each. Third won by sk(don't recall how many) as well as winning the 4th big. Both teams played many young players and I know BB has at least 3 players on IR and sk probably does as well. No sense risking further injury in a game like that.

  3. First half foul count was 12 CC 1 Brossart when I stopped counting. Multiple Brossart players have mastered the flop. The Brossart player did receive a yellow card on the play BigDaddy refers to according to the coaches. What I observed was a Brossart player launching herself into the head of the CC player well after the ball had been cleared. I would add the same Brossart player dove onto the CC goalie well after she had secured the ball. A foul was called but no card given. When you add in the apologies of Brossart parents and their embarrassment, I feel that I observed the game correctly.

Care to elaborate on WHAT parents, FOR WHAT and WHY. Its always a heated rivalry anytime they play from ping pong to basketball. And last night the best team won. The 6A school beat the 1A school.

  4. Congrats to Elizabethtown. Saw them play in Lexington and tonight. What an incredible team.

But let’s take a breath for a second. While this was definitely an upset, it wasn’t the equivalent of a No. 16 seed knocking off a 1-seed in the NCAA. Holy Cross has had an outstanding year all year, from its very first game when it went to a running clock against Assumption in Louisville in the third quarter (58-23 with half of A’s points coming in closing minute against scrubs).

    This year, Holy Cross:

1 – … is 10-0 against top 20 teams in the last Litkenhous ratings, and 12-0 if you include No. 21 Sacred Heart.

2 – … is 31-3 with ALL three losses coming with multiple starters and others hurt, sick and missing.

3 – … won the All A Classic by beating (then) 17-4 Danville, 21-3 Clinton County, 16-6 Owensboro Catholic and 22-2 Murray in five days.

5 – …finished 3rd in the Roncalli Lady Rebel Tournament in Indianapolis, beating Oregon-Davis (Indiana A semi-finalist) by 9 and losing to nationally ranked Lawrence North (4A semi-finalist) but giving them all they could handle for 3 quarters. HC was WITHOUT Deja Turner and Dajah McClendon. Lawrence North has four D-1 commits also.

6 – … finished 3-1 in the Lexington Traditional Bank Classic at LexCath, beating Lincoln County, Sacred Heart and Allen County-Scottsville but losing to East Carter without Deja Turner for most of the tournament and with Dajah M. playing hurt and with multiple girls sick.

7 – … beat Holmes (No. 3 in the last Litkenhous ratings) THREE times, twice on their home court. Holmes was 30-0 against everyone else.

And the defense? HC held 65.9 ppg E-town to 40, but that's not unusual. It holds teams to 38 a game.

Bell County averaged 65.6. Against HC, 33.

Holmes averaged 68.5. Against HC in three games: 40.

No. 9 Highlands averaged 62. Against HC in two games: 35.5

Murray, 64.6 a game and 46 against HC.

Danville, 67.9 and 35 against HC.

Sacred Heart, 56.5 and 38.5 against HC in two games.

My only point? This wasn’t a one-game performance for Holy Cross. The Indians have been playing well all year with a difficult schedule.

Oh, and only 7 of HC's 34 games have been at home -- 27 "away," with 2 in Indianapolis, 2 in Bowling Green, 5 in Lexington, 4 in Frankfort and 1 in Louisville.

HC only local loss was in early Jan. they had one starter out (ally Mayhaus) not multiple and Brossart also had a starter out, only team from the 8th,9th or 10th to beat them! Good luck to HC, bring home the big hardware!

  5. The Brossart lady stangs held off a late charge by the Lloyd Juggernauts to get the victory in Alexandria last night. Brossart was led by Emily Schultz with 30 points and 15 boards, followed by Abby King with 14 points and Sydney Shannon chipped in 8 points and 7 boards. Lloyd leading scorer was Cheatum with 22 points and Gentry with 16.
