  1. You can disagree with it, but you would be wrong. Here is Cov. Cath's record for the last 10 years:

    Cov. Cath was:

    2000: 5-6

    2001: 9-5

    2002: 6-6

    2003: 3-8

    2004: 10-3

    2005: 7-5

    2006: 12-3

    2007: 5-7

    2008: 5-7

    2009: 6-5

You tell me does 2009 look more like what Cov. Cath has done for most of the last decade or the exceptional year of 2006 (remember that 2004 their on the field record was actually 8-5)? I will give you that Cov. Cath's record is skewed a bit by their tough schedule.

So are you going by records alone? Because W/L records don't tell the whole truth on how good a team is.

    More than a bit.

  3. Boone plays at Ryle sat. Oct. 10. Kickoff is at 12:30. Playoffs will go like this.

    E1 VS W2

    W1 VS E2

    E3 VS W4

    W3 VS E4

Top 2 winners then will play for campionship.

Why did they set it up like this? Shouldn't the #1 seed from a division be playing the #4 seed from the other division, and so on?

  4. The difficulty in trying to compare last years team with this years team is there are several variables that have changed, not just the players on the field. Obviously the current team doesn't have the talent level of a Van Sant, Deters, Buckley, etc. but are 'doing more with less' instead of 'doing less with more'. I do agree that if you take the complete team from last year and switch with this years, records would be about the same.

I think the optimisim comes from do you feel you are on your way up, or on your way down?

    JFYI, Buckley graduated in '08.

  5. I believe it was either 7 or 8 straight wins. Cov Cath won 7-0 in 2001 if I'm not mistaken. So dependent on if you were talking the '94 graduating class/'93 football season, or the '95 graduating class/'94 football season, it's either 7 or 8.

I forget the scores, but I know that Beechwood won '94, '95. '96 and '97, and then:

    1998 Beechwood 24 Cov Cath 21 in O.T.

    1999 Beechwood 26 Cov Cath 0

    2000 Beechwood 14 Cov Cath 0

    2001 Beechwood 0 Cov Cath 7

    2002 NO GAME

    2003 Beechwood 26 Cov Cath 7

    2004 Beechwood 25 Cov Cath 26

    2005 Beechwood 14 Cov Cath 14

    2006 Beechwood 0 Cov Cath 34

    2007 Beechwood 7 Cov Cath 14

    2008 Beechwood 35 Cov Cath 21

    They didnt play in 2001.

  6. Western Michigan threw for 259 yards against Michigan. I think Clausen, Floyd, Tate, and Rudolph all have huge games and the Irish win by 21 in the Big House.

Thats a bit misleading since more than 3/4 of those yards came in the 2nd half against backups. Also, It wasn't like ND was facing a defensive juggernaut in Nevada. Nevada had one of the worst pass defenses in the history of college football last year.

  7. I agree with Oscar, Elliott is a beast ! Great strength and vision, good speed. He can run inside or outside. It took two defenders to bring him down on every play, and he seemed to pick up a few yards after the initial hit each time. Also impressed with McNichols, I see why Stanford wants him. He knows how to get open, use his size, and has nice hands. Ryle has a lot of options on the offensive side. Defensively, it's tough to gauge how good they are. I would give them a "C" at best last night. I thought last night, CCH looked inept on the O-side, not enough talent in the skill-positions. Ryle did create some turnovers, but they did benefit from many dumb penalties and missed opportunities by CCH. CCH did have receivers open in the secondary, but Erpenbeck wasn't able to get it to them. Servinsky played well, his second pick was an exceptional play. That was also an example of how underachieving Connelly is. He had a 5-6" height advantage on the DB's; someone needs to convince the 6'4" reigning state champion high-jumper to not catch the ball at his shoulder pads. He needs to work harder, both to get separation and to fight for the ball. It was very evident last night, CCH will truly miss their best player, WR, Michael Robinson. I think we'll see Ritter spends some time on the offensive side next week, he was exceptional last night.

Guru; I listen to sports talk all day, and appreciate the ability of a talk show host to play the devils advocate with insipid or outlandish comments, just to evoke emotion with a segment of the listening audience ; nice play !

I'm new to BGP, but I realize that's what stirs the BGP pot. ...am I giving you too much credit ?

Nichols didnt impress me at all.

  8. I thought Ryle looked slightly better than last year and CovCath is not as good as last year. It is going to be a very long year for CCH.

Can you really say that last years team was better, after one scrimmage and one game? Didnt last years team lose 54-0 in there first game? Granted, the opponent was a lot better last year.

  9. CovCath needs to get tougher and better conditioned. I couldnt count how many CovCath players had cramps. Also, the wrs for Covcath need a lot of work. Connelly,#16,needs to realize you have to come back for the ball and catch it at its highest point. An example would be the fade in the endzone in the 3rd. He had his man beat, but kept running.

  10. Did anyone see who Michigan had as quarterbacks last year? Its hard to succeed when your qbs cant complete a simple 5 yard pass. If you watched any of their games last year, they had people open down the field, but Threet nor Sheriden could throw anywhere near the recievers. Your offense is not going to very good when you lose your top RB, 2 top WRs, 2 top Qbs, 4 Olineman, and installing a completely new offense. Now the defense was a different story, RR did make a mistake by hiring Scott Schafer. I think RR knew that, and that is why there is no more of Scott Schafer.

  11. What is everyone's top 5 by position in the country for the upcoming 2009 College Football Season?

    2.Greg Hardy-Ole Miss

    3.Gerald McCoy-University of Oklahoma

    4.Terrence Cody-University of Alabama

    5.Carlos Dunlap-University of Florida

(Jeremy Jarmon would have made this list had he not been ruled ineligible)

    Linebackers:

    1.Brandon Spikes-University of Florida

    2.Mark Herzlich-Boston College

    3.Sean Spence-University of Miami (FL)

    4.Sean Witherspoon-University of Missouri

    5.Micah Johnson-University of Kentucky

    Defensive Backs:

    1.Eric Berry-University of Tennessee

    2.Taylor Mays-University of Southern California

    3.Trevard Lindley-University of Kentucky

    4.Joe Haden-University of Florida

    5.Janoris Jenkins-University of Florida

I would put Joe McKnight in the top runningbacks. IMO, Tebow isn't the best quarterback in the nation.

  12.

Here is the video. Someone please explain how this was a foul. Both boys tripped over their own hurdles.

Die Hard Blue...You truly believe this race should have been ran over?

Where did I say that it should have been ran over? Anyway, my answer is no. It doesn't change the fact that CovCath won fair and square, and that is something you have a hard time realizing.
