  1. Althought Holmes, Cov Cath, and Cooper (all teams capable of winning the 9th) were on the schedule, teams such as Lexington Catholic, Bryan Station, Henry Clay, etc were left off and replaced with Calvary Christian, Paris, and Dayton. With the strength of Coach Simms schedule he may not have had a great regular season record but his teams were always prepared for post season play.

  2. Not sure who the horses are dd734 is referring to. The last I remember Pendleton County having any "horses" was the 04-05 and 05-06 seasons. Mason Monroe would be considered a horse but PC has had average to slightly above average talent since then that overachieved year in and year out with Coach Simms. I loved watching his teams overachieve and it was fun watching the last 3 years when they won 3 districts in a row.

  3. 2011 38th district finals. Pendleton was down 21 with 5 minutes to go. Mason Monroe took over the game and Gabe Antrobus hit a three at thebuzzer to give PC the win. Great ending. That team would go on to upset Montgomery and Mason Co before falling to GRC in the finals. Anyone who was there will never forget the Miracle on the Hilltop.

  4. I can argue with the 11 that most people are putting on here, but my #12 slot...my "that guy", actually wears #12. I'll take Aaron Gibson from Pendleton County. He does everything that's asked of him...usually draws the other teams best guy to guard, and plays every possession all out. Kid doesn't get enough credit.

One of the most underappreciated players in the region in my opinion.

  5. Is this whole thread a round about ways of criticizing Pendleton for wanting to host the district? Obviously the hypothetical scenario of regions wouldn't happen. There would be thousands turned away. Nicholas County last year I would venture to say that every crowd could have fit in Pendleton's gym. It was not overly crowded and I had a lot of room to stretch out in the upper deck. I could definitely be wrong on that but that's the feeling I get.

  6. Funny thing Weyer, Wilson, and McGovney all played on the same AAU team the Omega Rhinos for a few years..

I had heard they will be on the same team again this summer in AAU circuit along with a few others from the 10th and 12th region. Not sure of the validity of this but if so it sounds like it could be a fun team to watch.

  7. Then again after last years loss due to a "T" called on Coach R in the 4th overtime of the game, I honestly think the game would be packed with the Crazies anyway.

Mason Monroe's 37 points and some clutch shooting by PC had nothing to do with the win? Not fair to the other team to say that. I agree though, it should be a fantastic atmosphere. Love watching games at Cov Cath. That is a great student body.

  8. I do know this- I hope whoever the new head coach is does the right thing and keeps the current JV coach, Brent Sowder on board. As far as I know, he'll want the job, and he is deserving. He's compiled a 36-23 record in 3 years as the head JV coach, and he often stayed with players until midnight or later in the gym working on their game. Players could call Coach Sowder at an any hour, and he'd meet them at the gym, or even pick them to put in work. He would be a huge piece to lose if the new coach decided to go a different route.

I think he would be interested in staying if new coach wants him. PC native, correct?

  9. If you check back in the threads for the games at BOK a few years back you will see that there were few if any complaints about the long drive for the GRC and Montgomery fans. We were just happy not to have to play on Mason's home court again. That is where the fairness for all comes in to play, Mason should not have the home court advantage every year now that there are options. Options that may not be perfect, but options none the less. As I have stated before I would be happy to have it every year at the BOK as the only neutral court option despite the drive. From Winchester with the better roads we can be there in about the same time.

You are right we are hijacking the thread so I will drop this discussion and say that this game should be great one. I think Montgomery wins a close one. I wish I was going but without a dog in this session I will opt out as a basketball fan for the UK game. Glad GRC drew Friday night but had they drawn Thursday I would have chosen to go to Mt. Sterling.

Fair enough. I am also opting for the UK game but look forward to updates from this battle. Good luck to both squads!

I am sorry that it is a lot different for you this time and I hope you can work it out. I know sometimes how hard it is to adjust life to make a ballgame. It is a lot different for me this time also but the break is in my favor for a change. I will get off work at a normal time, grab the family and 15 minutes will be in Mt. Sterling. If it follows the same rotation pattern and next year it goes to the BOK then the break is for the NKY fans, then you will get two good years at the Fieldhouse before I get the break again. No one is the big winner or loser and that is the fairest way.

This is all true and I do not want to hijack this thread but in what way is having the tournament at nearly the southernmost part of the region fair? Maysville most schools had to drive but no one had to travel as far as Scott High or Campbell will this week. The same could be said if it is at BOK next year. Montgomery/Clark should not be asked to travel that far for the regional. Fairness for all is impossible but fairness for most is.

With that said and back on track here: The game Thursday should be a hard fought contest. I believe it to be a true toss up!
