I have to agree with Preachit on this. Mild success at softball does not translate into success at the varsity basketball level. However...........he has coached basketball in the past but I am not sure how successful he has been. He was a JV coach for a little bit in the boys program under Coach Fisher and from what I can gather he would not support Persinger as a varsity head coach.

His support (or lack of it) was due to something other than basketball coaching abilities. It was more personal!

All of that does not matter. He deserves a shot. I am not sure if he even wants it but if he does, he deserves it! From what I have seen and been told, he has put a lot of time, years, energy, and effort into what he has done. Give him a shot BC admin.

First of all, I believe if you check the high school schedule you'll see that there are alot more teams on there than that. Second, I'm not going to argue with you. From everything I've heard, site base was really pulling for Persinger last year and it looks and sounds like that is who YOU want again this year. I'm just saying I don't believe he would be much better than last years coach. I've also heard this from parents who have had kids play for him, even from parents who had kids that were his starters from previous years!!!

Doesn't always take a good coach to win games with good players. Look at Tubby Smith's first year at UK! He won because somebody else did all the ground work for him.

So you dont think Tubby Smith did a nice job with that team? Look at him now turning around a terrible Minnesota team! Someone has to be in charge, call plays, get the team to play with passion and effort!! Why is it hard for you to give a man some credit. Better yet, why do you feel it necessary to talk about a person who just works hard at all he does and gives the Bracken County school system everything he has??? If you think someone else deserves the job, great, who is it?? you??

Bracken's middle school practice usually consist of the 7th grade starters scrimmaging the 8th grade starters while the non-starters look from the sideline. The coaches will work with a couple of players from each team that they want scoring the points. This is not just my opinion, I have heard it from several parents (including some of the starters' parents) and several of the players.:confused:

Boy oh boy that is not what I have heard from A LOT of former Bracken County players. You should do a little pole on this stuff you are saying and you might not like what you get.

How many winning records does the high school teams have lately? How many winning records have the middle school program posted in the last several years? Does the high school want to win or make EVERYONE (every parent and player) happy??? :ohbrother:

They seem to win at middle school and then it ends! So, help me understand how the blame can be on the middle school program that is winning???

All of this really does not mean much in the big picture though. The big picture is the boys that work so hard and have to cope with a new coach every time they turn around. Can you imagine being them? Isnt stability needed at Bracken County more than anything??

I will be honest though, I am not sure why any man would even want that job. Stuff like what is written above shows how crazy it is around Bracken County. :confused:

Doubt anyone would. Doubt he would either. He would have to win ALL A Region and 20 games to satisfy. Good luck to who ever is chosen.

Best thing to do is have 2 assistant coaches and no head coach, Give it to Persinger and Florer and thats the BEARFACTS , And the Head Coaches of the Polar Bears are Chad Persinger and Stac Florer. If the system dont do something, there will be no Basketball team. Every Year, Whos the coach, Every year whos it gonna be, Let them have it and Forget it. As they say. "SET IT AND FORGET IT " Both live with in 1/2 mile of school. How much closer would you wanna live and be a coach...

I cant believe Persinger would even want the job. He has been over looked 3-4 times and no one can explain it (that is what my sources say anyway)??

Heck, he knows all the boys (he coached them already), he is a Bracken native, and has shown what he can do with a program (middle school basketball and high school softball). And not to mention, if they do give it to him, the administration will try to find things wrong with him (they will look till they find it!). Bad situation. He might want to re-think it, if he does want it. Anyone know who all wants it????

I dont think you are allowed to coach at the Varsity level without being a teacher. So isnt this very simple? Persinger head coach, Florer assistant coach. Isnt he the assistant now? Two young, energetic guys that would work together for the boys! Seems simple but who knows what will happen. They will probably go for the big "out of town" coach again and the boys suffer due to it. Someone who doesnt really want to be there, just trying to get his feet wet and then move on when something a little better comes along.

I know Stacey has the required # of college hours, but BC usually wants them teaching also.

To her credit though, I believe the site based council or hiring committee chooses the coach and then the AD hires them based on that. Correct? So they sorta hired the coach or whoever and she just put the finish touch on it.

Sounds like a lot of stuff is CRAZY in Brooksville starting with hiring a coach that had ZERO experience. Look where that got them this year!! 20 losses!!!

Who is calling the shots over there anyway? You are telling me that some jv boys did not get in free but the families of the bosses did and both AD's, that is making ALL KINDS of money???? POOR BOY'S!!!! No wonder they dont have a program worth a crap if that kind of decisions are being made!!! Sounds like a lot of people need to go to the next board meeting!!!:taz:

Well, I have been in hibernation for about a year But this topic, just Ruffles my Feathers. How can a AD give her husband and some band members that toot there horn about 3 times a year a pass, When some kids do not have enough money to buy a popcorn or drink once they pay the $5.00 to enter the door, If you want to steal off kids and give passes out this away, I do not see how you sleep at night.Just a sad situation .. Mr J, We know you are not gonna be there much longer and will retire. Do you think this is fair to the small kids of Bracken County. and if the assistant superintendent got his whole family in instead of given passes to the ball players that is sad, Looks like we need to attend the next Board meeting and not hide behind these post on here and voice our opinions ...

Deming runs away from Bracken in 2nd half. My buddy said he was in Brooksville tonight and said Bracken was up 2 or 3 at half and should have won if they would have played defense the second half and/or got the Hamilton boy the ball more. Anyone there and agree with him? I know that Bracken won a few games in a row at home but none of them was very impressive. Beating Deming tonight would have meant they are coming around a little!

The new young coach must be struggling with control in Brooksville. Anyone make it to the game tonight? Word is the boys from Bracken acted very bad. Can someone share with us that attended the game? A St Pat parent called me and said it was rather disturbing and he should have not sat on the first row with his girl. I told him I have heard the saints language a time or two as well though. Suposedly a Bracken player was rude and disrespectful to Coach Hinson as well. Anyone see this? I just think the language has gone south with a lot of teams and it is starting to be accepted. Very sad!

Looks like the saints need Bracken on the schedule to gets some wins. They have 4 total wins other than Bracken. WOW!!! But of course Bracken has helped a lot of schools get wins this year. I got to see them twice and I saw NO defense whatsoever and a lot of RUN AND GUN!!! Good luck to both teams as they match up AGAIN in districts!

St. Pat is 4-1 against the Bears with another game to go. Do you really need to play a team 6 times. I can understand 4 (2 regular season, 2 in the tourney), but 5 regular season games???

That does sound bad. Every boy and girl should get a nice place to play and improve skills!!

Harrison Co. support for players has been dwindling for a few years. But, this year it has really dropped off... Part of it is the inconsistent play of players and just face it, EVERYONE loves a WINNER. Don't expect fans to come out in droves!! Heck, they're too busy tearing apart instead of building people up!

 

The community as a whole doesn't support basketball either. You should see the facilities that the recreation department uses for youth basketball. What a shame! Shame, Shame, Shame... And I have a young child that will get to use those facilities. I just hope the future of basketball gets better!! Enough said!!

I chose to head to Maysville for some basketball games tonight instead of saving gas money (even though it is much better these days!:laugh:) and watching this game. I have seen Pittman a few times and I have been VERY impressed with him! He is a treat to watch play.

I went to the game tonight and was very impressed with Pittman. I think he has the most talent by far on the Holmes team..The kid can jump out of the gym and has a nice stroke from the outside. Why Holmes doesn't post him up at all is beyond me.

Not making excuses, but Bracken is a small school, who now has football and has changed coaches a few times lately. But always seem to have a good faithful fan base and will take there turn with good classes coming thru like every other small school.

They do seem to have a nice fan base dont they. Any time I see them play, that is the case. They deserve a nice year around there. Hopefully they will get it soon!!

I heard earlier in the year, they would be pretty good this year though. From the stats on Khsaa, they have a kid that scores a lot pretty consistently.

NCC will be tough this year, I really believe that. They should have a nice pitching staff, right?
