I've heard that Ivan McGlone was going to try to work something new in to his gameplan to try to offset the talent level since it's not as high as what Russell is used to. This uncnfirmed, but I have no doubt that what ever the case, Russell fans need not worry. This is one of our areas truely great programs year in and year out. I always look forward to seeing them play.
I agree...you may see him change a few things only because of the lack of experience at key spots. People would be surprised what all is in Russells playbook though. They just don't run them. I can remember learning new plays that were only ran twice in a season.

Waiting on weather. Laying sod was to expensive. The company we contracted with will be laying down a mixed grass seed that should grow fast and be ready within three months.
Saw some birds and even geese eating seed for dinner the other day.:scared:

I think the ninja would win. This week its the Pirate VS the knight.

Yes, this is true. They are going back to white helmets with black face masks. They are also getting new uniforms. Coach Copley is still looking at the different options for the uniforms and dealing with vendors to get the best price possible. We will hopefully have a description soon.
I used to like the old style helmets that looked like Michigan. It really didnt say "Greenup County" in that style but still thought they looked cool.

Is Greenup getting new uniforms? What I mean is changing styles or decals with the new coach coming in.

Guys, first of all, I am a sports fan and love high school football. I want Greenup to succeed in all sports. But Purefan, Bench and anyone else that thinks Agriculture class is a joke better rethink their opinions. There may be kids who take this class as an easy A, but Greenup County is THE county school and Agriculture makes much a huge faction of the student's family economy. The school use to let these kids out for 5 unexcused absences to help with the family tobacco in the fall and kids are still excused to tend to their livestock at the County Fair each fall. To slight this way of living or their educational resources is wrong. The school should have thought a little harder about where to put this new weight room instead of taking from others.
What kind of post would you have if Soccer needed a locker room and they hastily gave them the football locker room and told the football players to, "go dress in the gym"? Enough said.
I agree100% with this statement.

If that's the case then the actions of this adult is even more ludicrous!! If they had enough points to win regardless . . . why even set up this hoax placing everyone in jeopardy?
Its to my understanding that it was more for the girl and not the team. He was just trying to help her out in a very STUPID way when the girl should have made the choice whether it be Goveners cup or scholarship interview. Mr Knupp IMO failed his team by trying to manipulate the rules.
I don't believe WSAZ's Randy Yohe was on his best behavior either by crashing into the closed testing site after being told to leave several times.

Here we go. After 3 or 4 threads and 500+ posts we can finally talk GC football..LOL
You have to admit that all these posts shows alot of interest in GCHS football. Everybody is getting excited about it.

I heard Dicky and Dirk say Ashland looked really bad at times and had alot of unforced turnovers ;IMO that will make a lot of teams look better.

Its always hard for Russell to click like they should. Either they have a big line with weaker backs or strong backs and a weaker line. As we all know great teams have both such as Russell state teams and Racelands team last year. I think Will Rice should have a great year on both sides of the ball. I don't see alot of line size but most Russell guards don't need it. Where it will be missed is on the defensive side.

Good game tonight....Wish Russell could have pulled it off , but the game kept you on the edge of your seat other than the 1st. Congrats to Greenup County.

Depending on what Matt and Chris want to do, we may have a meet and greet at Greenbo in the conference facilities with appetizers and drinks. We will invite the team, parents, boosters, media and all the supporters of the program. Danny Wright is working on this for us and we will let you know when that date is set. This is all according to what Matt and Chris want to do of course.
IMO that would be a great place to welcome Greenups new coach. Would show great hospitality from all boosters and supporters.

Estill County has used a version of this and has been one of the top rushing offenses in the state the past two years.
"Whew" Glad you said that. I have been busting my head trying to think who ran that offense on Russells schedule in the past few years. Can be a very tricky offense to defend. Could be a good fit for GCHS.
-
Hope the best for GCHS. Now the question is will he be bringing his own staff or keeping the ones from last year.
-
I would like to see Bruce Hunt or Frog Meenach get the job, but have a feeling they will hire Mike Jones or someone with no ties.
-
Not the administration's job to push kids to lift weights.
I agree with this. When I was younger weightlifting started only one time and that was when you very first picked up a weight. I think it should be a 365 day a year thing. Now I know you don't always have access to the equipment but running sprints, push-ups and sit ups don't cost a thing. Someone has to encourage this attitude to compete with your Fort Thomas, St X and even your Raceland type schools IMO.
-
Who is Brian Meenach? Whats his experience?
I remember him. I still have his cleat marks down my chest. He would make a great assistant if not a choice for coach.
-
I heard from a very very good source that Dontae Wright was asked to fill the position but turned it down. I think that it was the right move since he wants to stay in the ranks of the collegiate level. He will hopefully be hired onto the staff at Miami Ohio.
I talked to Dontae Wright last year at the UK football camp and by the way he talked he loved the collegiate level but would have been a great choice for Greenup.

Ashland is on a roll. I think they will fair well.
-
:dancingpaJob well done to the Greenup County selections and even to the ones who fell a few votes shy of making it.
-
"....and if you want to vote for Alicia Keys...text 1749keys to....."

I have heard this also, apparently this is something he is telling the other players at school. If Greenup doesn't get a certain coach, he is moving. This type of attitude is very negative and the other players already question whether his loyalty is to Greenup or to himself....
I am sure the state of Greenup County football doesnt rest upon one Jr QB. Whether he stays or heads down the road, Greenup will fill the void and do just fine IMO.
-
That should put Greenup and West Carter together. If so would be a game to watch.

I agree...Hopefully they will have learned a few things from last years group on what to do and what not to do. IMO I think last years team never came together. I am finally getting to see groups of kids play who I had watched from JFL. I think Russell will be having a tighter fellowship among the kids coming up. Might take a year or so but these kids coming up are hungry and are learning tradition at an early age.
