  1. If the move were in any way for “athletic reasons” you would be 100% correct. :thumb:

Not every family chooses to move just so their kids can participate in an athletic environment guaranteed to “showcase” their particular skills.

There is no way any reasonable mind could review the facts of this move, and define it as being for “athletic advantage.”

It’s funny how everyone seems so dogmatic about there being more to life than sports, but when a family actually places priority on “things other than sports” they’re “off” somehow. The simple fact is that sometimes job opportunities and overall family benefits supersede individual goals or desires. In this sense, a family is the ultimate “team.”

Robbie Barber is sacrificing his sophomore season of golf, and surrendering a starting position on a lot of other school’s basketball teams, just so his family can be in a better situation for all of them. Successful competitors know that “team” achievement has to come ahead of personal glory. In this sense, I admire him as a team player in the truest sense, and wish him the very best.

  2. I have confidence Coach W. will do the necessary things to succeed:

1: Demand high commitment and effort

    2: Emphasize player development

3: Have a level playing field regarding who plays.

4: Connect well with the players.

The challenge he will face will be the same whether Coach Wooten or Coach Wooden (John) is at Boyd County. Need more players. I think this may be an issue because more attention needs to be paid to developing a true feeder system. The lack of emphasis here has led to a loss of some kids who could have helped.

I will be rooting for Coach Wooten's success.

  3. They will both be playing for a state championship at Scott. Co. when the reg. season rolls around. Rose hill does not have a chance. The question should be who will be playing for runners up!

I am curious if you meant "Rose Hill doesn't have a chance to have a strong team this year" as another poster interpreted your statement or something else. My initial reaction was that you were saying "Rose Hill doesn't have a chance to keep these guys from gaining eligibility". It is my understanding that Rose Hill isn't opposing the move and acknowledges it as legitimate. Can you elaborate exactly what you meant by your post?

  4. I went to a semi-large school that played often in the sweet 16. I love small schools as that is my family heritage. I am completely in favor of keeping one tourney for all. The sweet 16 is a special event and there are frequently smaller schools that either make some great memories or win the event. I don't remember where, but I read an article about many in Indiana really lamenting the decision to go to classes in basketball and lost interest/revenue in the state tournament.

  5. Hey Bobby,

How is Jim Lindsey working out? I know he went through a rough time there with his solo career, but last I heard, he was back with your band. He sure can tear it up on that guitar!

We had to let him go. He always had those anger management issues, and one night he went off on some heckler in Raleigh and we had to let him go. Last I heard he got himself elected sheriff in some little southern town.

  6. Ricky P wrote:

"If either apply we would be thrilled to interview them."

I was told 2 people meeting the general descriptions of candidates "A" and "B" had already been interviewed. Is this correct? I also believe you wrote that the process of accepting applications had ended. Has that changed?

    Sincerely

    "The band with the beat"

  7. Of the 2 most likely choices to be hired by Rose Hill, you have:

Candidate “A”: A college national champion who also played professionally overseas. This candidate has also demonstrated a clear skill in player development and uses this skill with any young person who asks regardless of the player’s “profile”.

Candidate “B”: Didn’t play high school basketball. He has a couple of priorities that could be a challenge/detriment to the best interests of the program.

The choice is clear: It’s gotta be candidate “B”!

    Just a thought.
