How did their scrimmage turn out?

A little rusty at first. After the first seris is was all Garrard. The final was 24-6. Defense looked solid. Middle linebacker Michael Riley was out due to a knee injury. He returns Monday.

Who is Lincoln Co. playing?

Lincoln will play Washington County in the Death Valley bowl. They will play the second game.

I have no idea about the defense. It seems like they've been "slow and tentative" on that side of the ball for several years now. I'm not sure if the kids didn't really know how to play their positions or lacked the instincts to be successful. Certainly a new coach and new scheme could make a difference, but we'll have to wait and see.

Alot the the players on defense were very young. Its a major adjustment from middle school to high school. Some players also converted positions Ex( linebacker to defensive end). With experience under their belt this year should be different.

Garrard County vs. Bell County in the Death Valley Bowl. Bell is one of the top teams in their class. Garrard looks to win their district. Should be a interesting game.

They Throw around some money to get you to play at their place. They offer good money to smaller programs as well.

Wow. This is every senior's dream to play as many games as they can at home. I just dont see how Scott has the money every year to pay teams to play there. Wouldnt it be cheaper on the team or school system to just pay for the bus ride to the away game? I believe this will hurt Scott in the playoffs when they have to go away and play good teams.

Not saying that this is a problem at Russell but, I believe its hard to inforce this rule when so many coaches use tobacco products(chew and dip). I have noticed this with many teams around the state. So it has to start there before it can be enforced with the fans.

I would run through a wall for Coach Rall. He was and will always be a special person in my life. Ed Rall was my football coach from 79-81 and still today I think the world of him. Garrard County could not have gotten a better person to work with the kids. I am now a Garrard Fan, and will make it a point to catch some games next season!

I thought it looked like Garrard had alot of talent. I guess it is just what expecations you or they set for themselves.

 

Both the teams that you mentioned have excellent coaches that get the best out of what they have. I do not see alot of guys from those schools going to big time college programs.

Which team out of Harlan and Breathitt do you think will win their district.

I played for Ed in the recreation league and is a great man and coach. I wish him the best at GC! Is Dan his assistant?

To my knowledge no assistants have been named yet. I talked with him the other day and he was very excited to get started. However i am curious to know who he is looking at.

I'm not sure if your tongue is in cheek, but they should have a decent team. Keeping in mind that Breathitt County and Harlan County reside in the opposite district, winning the region is probably not a realistic goal.

I believe that Garrard will have the best chance they have had in the past few years to win district. Somerset and Wayne both lost players due to graduation and Garrard returns most weapons on offense and defense. Should be a very interesting district to watch as the season progresses.

Having Somerset and Taylor County as home games will be a big help, although they will still be very tough games. Traveling to Wayne County will be tough, but that's a place Garrard has had some success over the years.

The Garrard and Wayne county game is always high impact. After the upset in Wayne last season Garrard should have confidence going to Wayne.

You mean the defense that allowed 28.9 points per game, including 119 in two games against the Jumpers last season? Anyway, I didn't say that Somerset would win the District, just that they'd be okay. It is a weak district without any physically imposing teams or serious title contenders, there may be some solid teams but no Belfrys or Centrals.

Nice point. However if you take a look at the roster there was only 1 senior on the entire defense. Seven of the eleven starters were sophomores. This year will be a different story.

Yeah we are so down, we may not show up for half of the games. At least that will give you an easy week of practice, no reason to work on anything during the week of the Somerset game.

Come on now Jumer Dad, I know better than that. I have had several encounters with coach Cobb, I know he has something up his sleve. Didn't mean Somerset wouldnt show up, just wont be any 56-0 games on their schedule.

Agreed, playing success doesnt mean coaching success. However, after the camp that Yeast had at Mercer I saw one thing. He can teach the game. He shares his own experiences and talents and the kids really seem to respond. Look for Lincoln recievers to be very fundamental.

Somerset lost a lot to graduation. Couple that with the fact that they only had I believe 8 Juniors on the roster and the 2008 Jumpers will be very young and dominated by Sophmores and Juniors. That said there are some good athletes in those 2 classes and the rising Freshman went 9-0 and won their conference. They should be okay in a weak district but probaby won't be a factor on a regional or state level.

Somerset wont have the dominince that has been shown in the past. After loosing all major offensive threats scoring will be a problem. As far as a weak district Wayne county is pre- season top 10 in class 3-A. Garrard county returns all but one starter on defense and will have more speed than any other team in the district. Somerset will have to fight for second possible third.

Do the coaches or players get to interact with any of the Georgetown staff or recieve fundamental skills training on the collegiate level ?

Yes. It was a 3 day camp. The players stay in the dorm rooms and are completely coached by the Georgetown staff as individuals and as a whole team.

How do you think they will do against the district teams under Rall with the 8 returning starters? This team beat Lincoln easily 7-3 and gave Danville a very close game at Danville going up 4-0 in the first inning.

You either are with the team or your not. Just because your not playing one year doesnt mean you cant learn about the game and mature mentally. What about injuries?
