  1. Central has too much speed and blows this one away 38-7 or worse. Central is much better on defense this year, it doesn't matter what Belfry has on defense, Wales ran through Manual and St.X two of the best teams in 6A and I don't care what the stats say that kid is the best RB in the state and should be MR. KY football after this one, 3 titles in 4 years is strong.

  2. Now lets make sure they keep playing each other and knock one another out of the playoffs so Bumfuzzle, Ky and Hee-Haw County can say they were in the semi finals.

That's hilarious 'cause it's true. IF Hackett gets his wish this year his buddy McKee will get to say they played in the state finals, mission accomplished. It will be this way every year, maybe even worse next year as the 4 'super district' teams all return a lot of talent and experience. BTW, Hackett is quietly trying to make the super district play itself in the 1st 2 rounds and not cross district so that Bumfuzzle, ky can say they played for the region title.

  3. When my kids played we experienced big wins and big losses. I know how it feels.. There is nothing being done at Trinity that can't be done at any school in the state. It isn't easy. It starts with people who are willing to pay what it costs to have a top notch school. At Trinity it is donors and parents. In public schools it is taxpayers. It takes a school board that is willing to demand the highest quality from the paid administrators. At Trinity it is volunteer boards. In the public schools it is an elected board. It takes administrators that insist upon the highest quality from teachers, cafeteria workers, staff, coaches and down to the custodial staff. Everyone can help with that. Every time you walk through the school find something that needs to be fixed, painted or cleaned. Then make sure it gets done. It takes teachers with a talent and passion for teaching. If they don't have it, they need to be gone. If the administrators won't get rid of them, get new administrators. It takes teachers and administrators that demand high performance and good behavior from every student. Perphaps most of all it takes parents that won't settle for less. Those things are the real Trinity advantages. It is a level playing field at the start. It is what is done with the playing field after that makes the difference.

Academics are not the issue, I read an article last month detailing where Jefferson county area National Merit Award semifinalists go to school, Manual 42 - Trinity 2 - St X. 5, in fact home school kids did better than either on of the privates and 6 public schools had more qualifiers than Trinity. In the academic arena the public schools are making up ground while overcoming much bigger socio-economic problems. You're funny, I like you.

  4. Private high schools in Kentucky are allowed to offer the following as "tuition assistance" to a student-

-Merit scholarship to equal no more than 25% of the total tuition

-Need based scholarship to equal no more than the demonstrated financial need of the family as determined by a 3rd party company approved by the KHSAA (not the school)

Those are the straigtforward facts, regardless of what folks might say.

This does not mention an alumnus of said private school getting a money order to cover the tuition payments for an athlete and handing what is in essence cash money off to the parents at the game. As far as the KHSAA is concerned there is no scholarship and they refuse to investigate it but this is how "needs based scholarships" are covered on Shelbyville Rd. It is completely illegal, that's not to mention the illegal personal contact of potential athletes in the 8th grade to offer them this great deal. Or the letters sent to 8th graders from said alumnus offering "diversity scholarships" or "leadership scholarships" to potential athletes before the family has made contact with the school or the child has been accepted to the school, also completely illegal. This has all been going on for 2 or 3 decades at minimum and since it is not an official coach but a "friend of the program" the KHSAA turns a blind eye.

As for the level playing field, no public school is allowed to have volunteer coaches, privates are - see Trinity's 25 strong coaching roster when JCPS staffs are limited to 6 distric paid positions and 6 more if the booster club can fund them. These 12 coaches must coach all 3 levels of football, Trinity has more freshman coaches than most publics have on staff for varsity.

No public school is going to get 100-150 freshman playing football, period. As Larry said, at least in JCPS, space is limited in the programs at Male and Manual (since they are in the same district, I thought this a good comparison) and they have females and Title IX to deal with, privates can accept as many incoming freshmen as they like, many of the athletes hand-picked (see above), plus no Title IX to suck away football funds on girls lacross. These two factors mean that that the privates can spend 2 to 3 times the publics on their program and we all know money talks.

These are the facts, go with God

  5. DaMarcus Smith from Seneca, going to Louisville next year - the best single talent at his position in the state, period. If you have seen him play, which going by this thread you haven't, you would not have any doubts. All of the above kids are fine players but Smith is the only reason Seneca won or competed for wins this year.

  6. In 6A the Louisville area has 16 6A teams, there are only 16 6a teams in the reast of the state. If 50% of the 6A teams are from the Louisville area then why is it a shock when 2 of those teams play for the title (even if 1 of those teams ducked playing either of the catholic schools - looking at you Male). I personally don't care who plays in the finals, X and T included, as long as they are 2 of the best teams in 6A. I don't root for either of the catholic teams, in fact I enjoy it when someone rises to the occasion and beats them, but if they are the best teams why not play for the title. This is why I hate the new district/region for next year, all it has done is move the title game up 2 weeks.

  7. After a 3rd down run Trinity calls timeout with 26 seconds left and runs a play for a TD, the play is called back for holding and Trinity runs another play for a TD and scores with 10 seconds left. After the game When everyone is shaking hands, both AD's went onto the field to make sure the kids kept their cool. Beatty goes up to the Manual AD and puts out his hand and the Manual AD won't shake his hand. At this point Beatty goes nuts and starts screaming to get off his field. A police officer steps between them and the Trinity AD has to take Beatty off the field and talk to him. The Trinity AD then went over and apologized for Beatty's actions to the Manual AD. Unfortunate that Beatty has no class, his kids played a great game, embarrasing for Trinity.

  8. Another person not big on predictions. I'm sure that Manual will be jacked up to beat the Birds at DCM, but a packed DCM can be a daunting place to play if you are not used to the environs. It will help Manual some that Lucas has coached a team at DCM in the not too distant past (Bryan Station in 08). I'm told that Manual has some very talented athletes. The Birds will have to correct the mistakes that occurred in the Trinity game if they are to beat Manual.

Manual stadium seats 12,000 and they played the Male game for a few years at Papa John's, the crowd size probably won't be an issue. Also, Manual held Bowling Green to under 100 yds of offense and without an offensive score. Last time I looked BG was #2 in 5A, where are all these 40+ point predictions coming from, last year they only scored 19 vs a defense full of soph's. Should be a close, low scoring affair again.
