  1. Bredwinner,

I don't disagree with you about adding the second team. I pushed for it this year in football and got it and hopefully moving forward in the other sports we can do the same. Print space is one issue I was told we hadn't done that in the past, but that doesn't mean we can't do it moving forward.

Richard, you do a great job covering NKy sports. If anyone can get a second team it's you. Keep up the good work!

  2. The Northern Kentucky Girls Volleyball Coaches Association announced the "All Opponent Teams". (It used to be the All Conference Teams) Division II is the only one listed in the paper.

  3. He is writing about Northern Kentucky teams not the whole state. NCC is down this year and nobody will argue that point but, in NKy, yes NewCath is normally top 3 in this area. In the last 4 years NCC has been to 2 state semi-finals and 2 quarter-final. Before Our Lady of Providence merged with Newport Catholic in 1984 the made the state finals 4 straight years. Check NCC's schedule to see who the have played already (Sacred Heart, Louisville Mecry, Henry Clay, St Henry, Cincinnati Mercy) and what's left to play (Louisville Invitational Tournament, Cinti Mercy Fall Classic). NCC has to be a strong program for schools like this to want to put them on their schedules. Not to bad for a school who has about 150 girls enrolled there. If the KHSAA would have divisions in volleyball like they do for football they would be top 3 in the state most years instead of top 10. Don't base a program on a down year. By the way Villa did win a state championship.

  4. I agree that NCC shouldn't be ranked at all and yes most people in N KY know NCC is down this year. Yet the coaches down state who actually vote in this meaningless poll are usually clueless of whats going on up north.

Did you lose money on this match or something? You seem very upset!

  5. I'm sure they didn't have that rule in the conception of the game but as the game evolved someone found the need to switch benches. It's the rule! OK now let me ask why do baseball coaches wear a uniform? No other sports does that, do they? Thank goodness volleyball coaches don't do that!

  6. Anybody have a daughter or loved one on this team? They just won the Asics Junior National tournament at Chicago's Navy Pier by beating my daughter's 14 year old team. That's right, a 13 year old team won the 14 year old division. Really good team.

They have a really good coach too. Angie (Boden) Reckers does such a great job at that age group every year. Congrats to Angie and the team!

  7. Notre Dame's Sr libero, Carley Jones and Newport Central Catholic's Jr libero, Maria Froendhoff were selected by Prepvolleyball.com as "Gym Dandies". The national website gave recognition to high school volleyball players who are liberos or defensive specialists that rank as top defensive players in their respective states.

    Congratulations to both young ladies!:dancingpa

  8. Enquirer All Star teams should be announced tomorrow Jan. 19th. Any guesses on who the volleyball MVP will be? My guess is Emily Schmahls from NDA. First team (my opinion) Abbey Bessler and Rachel Fortner from St Henry, Taylor Snyder of NCC, Heidi Thelan from NDA, Jayden Jillian of Holy Cross and possibly Ellie Ogle-NDA, Maggie O'Day-NCC, or Ashley Bush-Ryle. Hopefully a defensive specialist or libero will sneak in there.

  9. With St Henry probably coming off their best performance at the Mercy Fall Classic and NCC their worst, the Crusaders should be heavy favorites in this one. Their defense is solid and the combo of Fortner and Bessler has been stellar. I believe this is for the conference championship and also celebrating Coach Kaiser's 20th season as head coach at St Henry.

One note about NCC: Jr. libero Maria Froendhoff will be back in action after a week recovery from a concussion. Word has it she will be sporting protective headgear for the rest of the season.

Good Luck to both teams and Congrats to Coach Kaiser!
