Christian Co. v Bowling Green
Mayfield v Marshall Co.
Russellville v Franklin Simpson
Hoptown v Tilghman
-
21 Aug - Hopkinsville at Paducah Tilghman. Let's see how these two traditionally strong teams match up this year.
22 Aug - Christian County at Bowling Green in the Rafferty's Bowl (at WKU). Could tell you who will be the team to beat in the west in 5A.
-
Prayers from your neighbors in Hoptown.
-
Who will Paducah scrimmage?
-
This is just a product of this reclassification and where the schools fell. In the current allignment, all the 'traditional' power teams in the west fell into the other classes. Kind of the same way with 6A.
-
4A in the West isn't going to challenge anyone in the East this year.
-
OU fan, your conference hurts you. Texas and OU for all those years and thats it...nice try Roll Tide Roll!
No so fast, remember most weeks ranked #1 in the AP and BCS along with the most 10 and 11 win seasons to go along with those 7 NCs.

Isn't there a fairly new sports complex that houses the football team? I could have sworn I had been in one. It was really nice, had a small turf field installed inside and weights on the 2nd level. Nicest sports complex(football fieldhouse) in the area last I saw. That is at Mercer isn't it?
Yes, it's a nice complex, now the field/stadium is a different story - definately needs work, but that indoor complex is first class.

They reported in the Advocate Messenger that the East locker was left unlocked and that the players valuables were stolen. They came into the locker room at halftime and discovered what had happened.

Awful situation to have to play through.
That's a black eye for WKU, how could that happen and who was responsible? Somebody needs to be held accountable.:madman:

I have heard a lot about Mercer Co. expecting the next coach to teach a full load and only have football as a "extra" position. LOL Well, if that is going to be the system's stance on this, you might as well not waste your time with a "search committee" accomplished coaches, almost without exception, will not work in situations like that, because the schoool system is not serious about winning. If you are just going to play ball with no expectations, fine, go out and do your best, but if you want success, you must do some things to give yourself the chance to win.
That's a perception and I think its a bad one. Coach's can teach and coach, especially experienced ones who have taught for a while. I know old coach Jaggs taught health and pe the whole time he was coaching, Mueller is the chair of the science department at Highlands, if I’m not mistaken, and it doesn’t seem to bother him much! Saying you can't do both effectively is BS. I don't think that is an indication of how serious a football program is about winning, there’s a whole lot more to it than that. After all the purpose of every school's existence is to teach kids, not play football - sorry.:scared:

Agree. I know some schools, that are border line attendance wise, have asked to be moved for two years in order to round out discticts and cut travel have been denied by the KHSAA.
I don't think the 6 class system will survive the next round of reclassification.
-
The numbers will tell you that Hoptown is at the bottom of 5A enrollment wise. They have 8 more students than Hopkins Central. You can go the other way too, move up a 3A school in Dist I that has 5 schools. Take Tilghman and round out the district. Lone Oak has 29 more kids than Tilghman. Obviously, there's not that much difference between the very bottom of one class and the very top of another. Having 3 team districts with some teams getting byes and other districts where some teams don't even go to the playoffs makes ZERO sense.
-
What would have made sense is to move one of the District I 5A schools down to 4A since 5A district I now has 5 schools with the addition of Madisonville. It doesn't make sense to have a Logan county school drive all the way to Lone Oak or Calloway for a district game. It would look a lot like the old District I Class 3A in the 4 class system that had Lone Oak, Calloway, Union Co and Hopkinsville.
-
And zero Tennessee teams, interesting.
-
So who is #1? Alabama, Notre Dame, USC?
None of them, because Oklahoma is.
7 National Championships
42 Conference Championships
47 game winning streak (still the longest)
5th all time in wining perdentage at .716 (since WWII they have the highest winning percentage .761 and most wins with 535)
Most weeks ranked #1 in the AP at 97 weeks, and most weeks ranked #1 in the BCS with 18.
Most 10 win seasons (30) and most 11 win seasons (17)
5 Heisman Trophy winners and 144 All-Americans
Legendary coach? - Bud Wilkinson (145-29-4) and then there's Barry Switzer who was (157-29-4)

I think that Union may have passed up Georgetown in the recruiting of these athletes that fall through the cracks in Kentucky.
Agree and maybe that's one of the reasons they were 5-5 this year. 5-5 at Georgetown isn't good enough. :puke:
Its especially true in Western Kentucky. There were number of quality players they just turned their back on this past spring. Georgetown used to get players from Paducah, Madisonville, Hopkinsville, Princeton, etc. - now they're not interested.
-
Agree, somewhat... If you have to beat two or even three other quality district teams, then that one great team in the district will be tested or even surprised when they don't show up with their A game.

Bell County opens with Alcoa Tn., defending state champion 3 or 4 years running now in the city-county bowl on Log Mtn.
Wow, Alcoa is good, really good. :scared:

What are the good bowl game match-ups out there this fall?
In the Toyota of Hopkinsville Jerry Claiborne Bowl at the Stadium of Champions in Hopkinsville -
Hopkinsville vs. Clarksville, TN (This was a long time cross state annual rivalvry until the early 90s when the schools stopped playing)
Christian Co vs. Franklin, TN (The most interesting match-up pits two teams who both went to the state finials last year. Former Hopkinsville coach Craig Clayton returns to Hoptown as the coach of the Franklin Rebels to face his long time assistant Steve Lovelace)
-
Hopkinsville's updated list of players who have signed -
Derrick Dillard (LB) - Austin Peay (TN)
Joe Harris (RB) - Lane College (TN)
Kirk Thomas (TE) - Western Kentucky
Jim Atkins (K) - Murray State
Jason Denton (OL/DL) - Centre College
-
I got ya, thanks.

Hawg Heaven, the camp that Joe Prince at Owensboro runs, is an outstanding full contact lineman camp. They really get after it there!
He may have it in June this year. A lot of schools didn't go last year because it was too close to the start of school/season.
-
What game will they have to drop? Hoptown is scheduled (and contracted) to open with Tilghman this year on the 21st.
-
Is there a tougher district out there than District 1 5A?
Christian County, Hopkinsville, Madisonville, Ohio County, Owensboro

Fort Campbell is playing Hopkinsville this year, and they have played Christian Co in the past.
