Harris Bivin 6'3" 290 Junior lineman from Apollo. In 8-3win over Madisonville, 7 tackles 3 sacks 1 blocked pass 4 pancakes 2 kickoffs in the endzone. Stations WKDZ 1110 and WFMW 730 carried the game.

Any thoughts on this one. I of course like Apollo. It should be a close one.

AHS wins 8 - 3 in a defensive battle. Both teams had chances to score but missed.

If OHS brings some offense, I think they come out on top. They have it, but have yet to show it.

The "no support from admin is correct". There was another person who left at the same time for the same reason. AHS has stellar programs in basketball and baseball, they just don't seem to be as interested in football.

You are very lucky to have Coach Gooch. He is one of the best.

Trinity too strong. I think BG is down a bit this year. Trinity coasts in this one.

Don't know if there are any Apollo fans out there. Just wondering what your take on the upcoming season is after the first game.

Burns Middle School in Owensboro, KY feeds Apollo High School. In 32 years, the eighth grade team has had 11 undefeated seasons 14 one game loss seasons. Not against slack talent either. They play every year Owensboro Middle, Henderson schools among others. Last years seventh grade was 8-0, and they are looking for another undefeated eighth grade year.

I am on both sides of the fence here. I can see what you are saying cut block about the new style of basketball, and no doubt football is the toughest thing going, but my home school is Apollo, if you don't play defense, you get to sit beside Tony Hopper on the far end of the bench.

Independance Bank Border Bowl. For the second year in a row, all Owensboro teams face off against Evansville, IN teams at OCHS Steele Stadium. Two nights. This year the game to see I am thinking is Owensboro against last year's Indiana 4A champion Evansville Reitz.

This thread is the first time I have ever heard of a team running a bus after/before football practice...

Owensboro city schools have done this for quite some time for several sports and it is not that big of a district.

In the past pressure has been applied to participate in spring football, kids have to make a choice between football, baseball and track. There are hardly anymore two or three sport athletes.

Of course soccer plays a role, it has grown so much. Our school Apollo has around 1400 plus. 48 eighth graders signed up for football. 15 showed up.

We have a new coach, Paul Bates, who is a real go getter, I am sure we will improve.

I am an Apollo Alum. I have known Dan Gooch for many years. I played against his brother Tim. He is a good man, and if it is football results you want, you have the right man. I would give anything to have him back at good ole AHS. The admin here just wasn't flexible enough (what I mean is they didn't care about the program). If you want to get him going, ask him about his tackle on Herschel Walker when he was with the Stallions. I witnessed it. It was bone crushing. Good luck to Montgomery County.

Has anyone out there ever seen a kid fail a sports physical? I have never heard of it happening.

Too true. There are too many "doc in a box" outfits that collect your $25 and sign the paper.
