  1. Well believe what you want it's obvious that know matter what I say some of the Bell County faithful are going to say the opposite. I know who Coach Matney had on the field and I know when he put them there. I'm going to say this one last time the jv played the entire 4th quarter if you don't believe me ask Dudley or Tommy Greer. Coach called for the jv at the start of the fourth quarter and Dudley stated that his varsity needed more work so he left his varsity defense in against the Central jv. Let me ask you this how many times did you see the little tailback that ran through Bell's defense in the fourth carry the ball before the fourth quarter? The answer is none.

I'm not disputing the fact that SOME of the JV were on the field during the beginning of the fourth Quarter for both Bell and JC, as a matter of fact it was a Freshman for Bell, #23 that moved the ball down the field before Raines ran the ball in for the TD, and the same Freshman that made the 2pts, so I know the entire V wasn't on the field for either:ylsuper: team, but I heard the call from the coach for the 2nd D during this run by Bell's freshman, as a matter of fact, it was after the 42 yd run by #23 to be exact when the call was made for the full 2nd D, so all I'm saying is that Not the entire 2nd D was on the field the entire 4th Quarter. Not trying to take anything away from JC for the fact is they looked very impressive and obviously took this more serious Bell but the "JV the entire 4th Quarter" is not totally accurate and keeping an eye out for the Cats just as you are doing the same. Good Luck to Johnson Central this season as well as our Bobcats.

  2. I'm bout to bust with pride myself. The hard nosed football that Larkey will bring to Harlan county has a lot of people worried is why they're complain'n. This'll be another great program out of the mountains that will give them yanks up north something to worry about. I'm all for this big new school and I'm ecstatic for the kids to have this great opportunity. Shortly Harlan will be one of the top from the mountains, not just known for the choir and academics.. (not saying there not just as important!)hehe. GO BEARS!:ylsuper:

  3. We would love to play Bell in 7th and 8th. They won't play us. They only beat us by two points in 2007, even thou we lost some we even have just as good of a team this year.

I heard they lost alot, is that why they won't play us and also we won CVC champions. We would love a rematch and on our field.:flame:

I watched them in a pass scrimmage and I think they are possibly better than last year. Their only loss really is the Davenport kid out of the back field. They are returning almost everyone from last year. Bell has moved on. They have joined the conference down Corbin way, (Corbin, Whitley, North/South Laurel, etc. ) Harlan ultimately got what they wanted, Bell out of the picture. Now New Harlan can dominate that CVC. Another great rivalry bites the dust. They will get to play Bell in the big new school though. Maybe that will be the biggest new rivalry here in the mountains since M'boro, Pineville, and Corbin tucked their tail and run.:flame:

  4. Jeff Howard also! Missed opportunity by the coaching staff.

I've not seen him up there. He was there about half a practice one day. He would be an asset to the freshman team. They are short handed on coaches and could use a couple more.

  5. Think of the money that those schools are loosing. It must be a very good issue that keeps the Jackets and Hounds away. People would usually miss there own team playing to come and watch the Cats, and the Jackets/Hounds play. Sometimes you gotta swallow a little pride for the greater good. Come on back Jackets and Hounds, we miss you. We promise we'll go easy. hehe just kidding!

  6. I played with some you mentioned above and about 25 more at Bell. I know all about angle and 4.4 vs. 4.7. Sometimes it's not all about that. Sometimes it's about heart and determination. I recall very keenly on 3 or 4 kids that gave up very quickly on Guy on that play. It's not about the team for some of the kids. I know 95 percent of them personally and have been around them since they started in the K-2 program. Old school is not around anymore. Kids are different these days. As for them 2 boys, I know them kids won't go anywhere but Bell. And I agree, they would be 0-4 against Bell. Their dad played when the school first opened and has coached in the k-8 for the last 11 yrs. To much tradition in that family. To say they would not go to Bell is blasphemy. hehe

  7. Does Bell think they can beat Lex. Cath. this year? Most of the state doesn't, which means they'll be Regional Runner's-Up again...which means no, they're not a state contender.

Bell may be Lex. Cath.'s best competition in 4A, but that doesn't excuse the fact that most of the State regards them as the best Regional Runner-Up in 4A.

I would like to see your poll you took of the state's opinion. :laugh:Your pessimistic attitude towards Bell seems a little like jealousy to me. Lex. Catholic had all they wanted from Bell last year from a team that had 1 senior to their 3. Take away two or 3 mistakes and I think the outcome last year would have been very different. We here on the mountain are very optimistic. We show 100 percent support, 100 percent of the time.

  8. Is the Catron kid still around? If so what do they expect from him?

Dominic Carton is around but can't seem to stay outa trouble. He missed a lot of spring practices and pass scrimmages. Man, what ever happened to old school when things were taken care of on the field after practice. Kids just seem to know they can get away with just about anything. Bell WILL make it with or without him.

  9. I think they know, there is a website here in Harlan called the Harlan Playhouse and someone posted a series of emails between New Harlan's and Bells coach. It has to do with New Harlan trying to get them to come here and play and the Bell coach seems bitter blames New Harlan for kicking them out of the conference, when we are the only team that is willing to play them. Something fishy some place the last three times New Harlan has played Bell it has been at bell, they must not like traveling 119. Also heard a rumor that the middle school coach and Coach Hilton don't exactly see eye to eye. I'm sure Hilton and Larkey will get together and get the middle school lined out. New Harlan Bell games are some of the best overall football games I have ever seen, both teams always play hard.

This past year Bell Middle played New Harlan at home, for the only game played last year between the two. Year before last Bell played new New Harlan at Cawood and then at Cumberland for the championship if I'm not mistaken. No problem traveling 119. Well I'm sure the great rivalry between these two teams will not die. I suspect they'll play regardless. Maybe the powers that be in Harlan who dictate the CVC will invite these other teams mentioned above and include Bell in them. :thumb:

  10. The eldest, Cody, will be a sophmore, (he's the one who ran down Winston Guy from the other side of the field in that opening kickoff last year), and the other is Cory who was the middle school half back last year. He will be the freshman. Cody played some receiver and corner and Cory plays corner and halfback.

  11. New Harlan were the champs this past year, they beat Pennington Gap, VA.

A very good game, the kid from Pennington ran all over the place, New Harlan ran a kick off back for a touchdown in the final seconds.

There are some different opinions on what happened to Bell County, I believe the closest thing to the truth is, no one but New Harlan wanted to play them so they left the confernce either by there choice or the conference (who ever makes those decisions) This past year the CVC was Evarts, Cumberland, New Harlan, Leslie County, Jonesville VA, and Pennington Gap VA, not sure if anyone else was in the conference and as far as I know it will be that way this year. The CVC used to have a few different teams, but most of them got tired of Bell and New Harlan's dominance. Bell apparently has joined another conference and has a full schedule and declined to play New Harlan, which is terrible like you said these games have been as good or better than highschool games. I hope this rivalry can get started again someday.

Bell never willingly left the CVC. They were notified it was being dissolved, by someone in charge or someone just wanting to get rid of them. Bell had to travel many miles just to find games. I'm glad New Harlan had the heart and determination to better themselves and play Bell. That's a great program they have and it will benifit the new school tremendously. Bell never entered any new conference. They do play at Morehead in a OVC classic when someone will accept the game. I hope someone will call and tell Bell Middle the CVC still exists.

  12. Has the middle school CVC been disolved in Harlan? I know Bell dominated it for a few years and this past year they never played in it. Was they not invited or just didn't play in it. I've heard the Patriots claimed to be the CVC champs from past season. I've watched Bell and New Harlan play in these games and IMO these games are usually better than a high school game. The crowd is alway enormous.

  13. I agree Bell has not played a schedule to get them prepared for the playoffs. My biggest fear is that they will come out like most of the games this year (just like Friday night) and wait until after half time to start playing. If this happens, I don't think we will have a chance. Bell will have to come out in full stride, and smack Lex in the mouth early. Then they will be able to roll. :thumb:

  14. It's seems that the pride is back at Bell Co.. I was kinda worried at the beginning of the year and a little disappointed with some of the things going on, but now as I have watched the pride and heart come outa these boys and some of the old skool coachin by Dud like it was when I played, I think the Bobcats are unstoppable. Dudley has put a lot of effort into this year and it shows in many ways. I hope they get to keep the black uniforms until the end of this season. They are very cool. We wanted them when I played, but the deal was to keep the Lone Jack colors. A win Friday night will be the first undefeated season since 92 if I remember correctly. I pick Bell over Tates Creek by 2 TD's. I not looking any further down the line. GO Cats!!!!
