6 Class Breakdown (Draft Only)

At this point, does anyone think it would be fair to drop off 25 or so

teams from the playoffs? To me, if you expand to 6 Divisons and allow

4 teams per district to go into the playoffs you would be doing those

teams a major injustice because they wouldn't make it in. This demeans

the regular season and really makes me think that if they are going this

far, they should let all 217 teams into the playoffs and then not force

a team to play any games against the other teams in their district.

There is no good argument not to include all teams in the playoffs that want to participate. The best team in each class will win the state tournament, regardless of whether teams are excluded or not, and regardless of how many classes there are.

The anti-private, anti-big school crowd needs to face facts. Trinity or St. X will win a state title in most years if they are allowed to compete.

We all know what the real problem here is. Some teams are going

to be perenial powers, and others will often have losing seasons.

The KHSAA believes that the best way to fix that problem is to give

more championships.

If that is in fact the problem, I have a better suggestion. How about

when a team wins a state championship, they are automatically

kicked out of the state tournament for their next 3 seasons. That

would allow more teams to have a chance to win the state championship.

What is so bad about more peolpe making the playoffs. All the teams in the state of kentucky make the playoffs in girls and boys basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, track, wreastling, cross country, golf, etc. Everything but Football? More exposure for more players.

Actually, it would have just the opposite effect. By lowering the number of available teams, you dilute the pool. Therefore, they would be more spread out.

By not forcing teams to play everyone in a 7/8 district where the area is spread out and instead 4/5 team district in general the travel will not be as bad. See my example before and there are several more just like that.

Lots of professional people are paid lots of money and still make a lot of bad decisions. We call them Congressmen. Putting a lot of thought into a pigskin purse will not make it into a silk purse.

I favor eliminating districts altogether, keeping four classes, shortening the regular season to nine games, letting every team into the playoffs (as is the case with basketball), and drawing for first round home games. That would allow teams maximum flexibility to play the schedule that their coaches believe will best prepare them for a deep playoff run. Teams short on funds could schedule games close to home to hold down expenses, and teams that could afford to travel the country playing top competition would be allowed to do so.

If Kentucky is determined to increase the number of classes to six, eight, or even more, then the length of the regular season could left unchanged.

These are educators/coaches who work with and care about the kids that are making these decisions and not congressmen. I dont think the President cares how many classes we have. This is apples and oranges.

Just a question, but how would Clay County be in 5a Region 2 with western and central KY teams. Wouldn't they be a better fit in region 4?

What 2 year period will they use when they draw up the new classes?

I know that Corbin now has approximately 700 students in grades 9-12 and they only had 550 or so the last time it was done, so there will be a good chance that Corbin would be 3A. They would be in the same boat as they are now in 2A with no other 3A teams close by to form a district.

Here's an idea. Why don't we just have 3 classes:

  1. Champion Class
  2. Junior Class
  3. Bunny Class

Then everybody can choose to play in whatever class they want!

It'd be like a trophy buffet.

Thats easy to say when your team goes to state championship every three years on avg! your team also has a lot more resources, both monetarily and athletically. It is not the kids fault they all don't have field turf to play on and state of the art training facilities and equipment. There are distinct classes because of public/private issues, enrollment size etc.My son's school had to scramble at the last minute to raise money to paint the field for a game because the school district wouldn't pay!Does Highlands or CovCath ever worry about stuff like that? This is not so different than the divs. 1,2,3 and NAIA.We all aspire to be onthat level but the fact is it will never happen. We probably have six different levels IMO.

If you're thinking that we have "state of the art" training facilities and equipment, I invite you to actually come and see our training facilities and equipment.

They may have improved some since the old days; but they're not exactly world class.

Not that this has anything to do with the topic at hand, but i have a hard time believing you can have a astro turf field and not have state of the art facilities and equipment. We know that your locker room and wieght room isnt the one Nike built for Oregon but i dont think its all that bad.

You'd be wrong. Other than the field, HHS has very little "flash" to what goes on in the program...

Then it sounds like someone doesnt know how to use their money correct. Isnt Highlands playing surface around 1 million dollars? I could be wrong on this but did they get the blue playing turf like Boise State has cause i thought they where talking about it when they put their new surface down.
