Is the 10th Region the Best Ever?

I found myself in a debate with some friends the other day about which basketball region was the best ever. I, having played in the 10th Region was naturally picking the 10th as the best historically. From the old Maysville High School Bulldogs to the current runs of Mason County high school. I tried to sway the debate in my favor by acknowledging the lore of the Mason County Fieldhouse, as well as the magic of the tiny gyms such as Augusta's, Nicholas's, and Silver Grove's. Of course he said that you cannot give the title to one specific region, because "each offers something special when you look at them over the years." Fair enough, but I still felt he was wrong. I remember often getting absolutely destroyed by some of the schools in our region, but I could never forget that feeling of walking onto the court in the smallest county in the state. Yeah it is true that Deming was and is not a state power, nor was it a regional power during my days, but it was a piece of 10th Region basketball. We were often the doormat, but we were at the door of some great teams through history. I never felt that when I played against schools out of our region, nor do I today when I travel to catch some games. The truth of the matter is that the 10th has offered us some great players, some overachievers, some great teams, some great gymnasiums, some great coaches, but most importantly some great memories. From top to bottom each school has had a special moment and a special player. These things will live on long after they have passed. They do for me to this day. So as it goes we debated on, and as we continued I acknowledged the fact that there are special teams and places throughout the state. However, in my heart I know the soul of Kentucky basketball resides in the 10th. Over the next couple of months I'll tell which games I played in or watched that I found special. I invite others to tell of theirs. Oral history is what keeps the magic of our past alive.
