CovCath 9 Lloyd 0

Featured Replies

CovCath 9 Lloyd 0 in the Doc Morris Wooden Bat Tourney, or if your pitcher keeps putting up goose eggs every inning (0), you aren't going to lose the game.

Will post the good the bad and the boxscore in a bit.

The CovCath good;

CovCath Senior John Wehry in his first CovCath start throws a complete seven innings of shutout baseball, while only giving up only 1 hit. Wehry effort today was one of the best outings that Theoldguy has seen from a CovCath pitcher in long, long, time of watching CovCath baseball games! Think Theoldguy is making this up or off your rocker? Then you tell me! What Wehry did today was to throw only 66 pitches, while striking out 2, and walking none. He forced the Lloyd batters to hit into 10 ground ball outs, 7 pop up outs to his infielders, and only allowed 2 Lloyd batter to hit into outs to his outfielders, in facing only one batter over the 21 that he would need not only for a no-hitter but having a perfect game. The only hit John gave up was a first inning base hit on a 2 ball no strike count.WOW!!

Luke Maile (yea I know I talk a lot about the kid) had a lead off HR (365 #3) on a 1 and 1 count, over dead center field that you knew was gone as soon as it left his wooden bat. It was the only strike that young Maile saw from the Lloyd pitchers the rest of the game as the Lloyd refused to pitch to Maile again in the game. Lloyd intentionally walk Luke in his next at bat (second inning), then walk him again on four pitches in the fourth and fifth innings.

The CovCath infielders as I mentioned earlier had 17 chances today without making an error, and the best play of the game was in the fourth inning when a Wehry tried to catch a hard one hop ground ball, that went off his glove to his right side, only to find a Tyler Holocher charging in hard from his SS spot and bare handing the ball, and throwing a perfect strike for the put out at first, in a bang, bang play.

The CovCath bad;

To be real, real picky, the only batter that Lloyd had all day long, was a dead duck trying to steal, as Maile throw was clearly there exactly where it needed to be, but the CovCath infielder was late getting there. So instead of gunning down the runner and the second out of the inning, Lloyd now had a runner on second with only 1 out…
