ripcity
Both teams looked a little sluggish on offense,Mason played alot of their young kids ,the veterans got about 40 reps ,Cox,Tolle,Huron,Brace,Pollitt,Thompson,Woods, all looked good,Pawsat looked really good after playing in the freshman game he completed 5 or 6 passes and looked very poised with the older players,he will be a good qb in the future. jahearme
Does anyone know what the score was? According to my sources, Montgomery won by a touchdown, but I'm not sure what the actual score was.
mcpapa
Neither first team scored before "halftime", although Montgomery County moved the ball just a little better than the Royals. They did get down to the 1/2-yard line on the 10th play of one of their sets of ten. Mason County had two INTs, Montgomery had one. Mason needs to improve their tackling; a few too many arm tackles to suit me. After that, both teams ran goal-line sets, both scored 3 TDs by my count. Second team had Mason County scoring one more time than Montgomery. Both backup QBs will be able to fill in for Cox if it comes to that; I was impressed by them. I also thought that #29 (Akeem Jackson? - someone correct me if I'm wrong) looked real good for Mason. Mason will still need to shore up their kicking game, and they don't have a deep receiving threat right now. Their speed guys are small and need to be able to get off the LOS without getting knocked off their routes. An interesting thing to watch during the game was the pace at which both teams played. Montgomery went to a long huddle on virtually every play; while Mason went with "wristband calls"; very little huddle time. I don't know if this was just the Indians' way of dealing with the heat, or if they plan to run a very deliberate style of offense all season.. Entertaining scrimmage even if both 1st team offenses didn't show a lot. Ran well over two hours when including goal-line plays and punt plays. FBALL
Sounds like most first scrimmages. Very little scoring and different lineups trying to get a look at alot of kids in different positions. I really don't know why anybody tries to keep score in these things. Best of luck to Mason Co.. Looking forward to seeing them later on in the season. As was probably the case across the Commonwealth last week, the scoreboard was not turned on for this one. Look forward to seeing you in October!
