Campbell County/Ashland Scrimmage

In last years scrimmage Ashland had a very hard time moving the ball against the Camels first string, look for more of the same as they return alot on defense. When the Camels have the ball I think that they will try and put the ball in the air often. New QB Kidwell throws the ball pretty good and in the intra. squad scrimmage last week they threw alot.

Campbell County's 1st team defense looks really good. Asland had a really hard time moving the ball the whole scrimmage when the 1st team was in. The offense looks good also but still needs to work on some things out. Over all they are a solid team.

How much did each team score with the 1st team?

Campbell County's 1st team scored 4 times with 3 td passes by kidwell and 1 run by rose. As for Ashland I am not for sure but i am almost positive that Ashlands first teamn didn't score.

If not for the 10 and 10 I think Ashlands #1's would have gone 3 and out everytime with negative yardage. They had no answer for the Camels size at linebacker and quick DE's. Camels offense looked just alright for the first time out. I had to leave but Ashland's #2's seemed to be able to do much more, big kid running the ball. All and all this scrimmage went as I guessed it would earlier in this thread.

By my count:

* CC 6 scores (4 by 1st Team O vs. 1st Team D)

* Ashland 4 scores (1 by 1st Team O vs. 1st Team D)

Great afternoon for football & large crowd for a scrimmage. Bob Miller Stadium Bermuda turf looked incredible. Best that I have seen in 25 years!

Solid start for the Camels but they must play with intensity each and every play. Great overall depth, speed, and Team strength.

Still too early to evaluate all areas. However, the Camel D performed as advertised during the 1st two Ashland Offensive series (20 plays). Not sure if the Tomcats gained a combined 10 yards during this stretch. However, as the afternoon wore on, the Tomcats had some limited success running the ball.

Who was the big kid running the ball for Ashland.

How does Campbell compare with this time last year? Better, same or worse?

I would say that they are ahead of last year. Those seniors on the defense are a year better, bigger and stronger.

Kidwell throws a good ball and they have three or four receivers that appear to get wide open. They can't replace Griffin but as a group look to be pretty good, led by senior Austin Studer 6' 3" and speedster Andy Franzen.

At RB, Grant Rose impressed me with how hard he runs and showed a pretty good burst of speed on the TD run he had against Ashland. He is ahead of where his brother was at this time last year.

Over all they look pretty good and should be in the mix in NKY and could play with anyone up here. These seniors have been with coach Styer for the third season now they should be ready to go.

It was a great day for football. The field looked great (and I know that doesn’t come easy), the fans were friendly – and loved their Camel football team. It was a nice place to play a scrimmage, though a bit of a drive for Ashland.

IMO, this scrimmage was exactly what Ashland needed – to go up against a bigger team. The Tomcats are inexperienced this year with only 3 returning starters. The squad has only gone against their scout teams till now. They needed to see how the big boys do it and test themselves.

I’d say that the Tomcats did better than I expected. They started off looking bad, but showed some grit and improved as the day wore on. The scoreboard showed the tally as 30-24 in favor of the Camels. Ashland’s second team O scored 3 times and the defense scored once. Our 1st team didn’t score but had some success moving the ball and Thomas remained poised at QB though he was pressed all day. It looked like Thomas got in the end-zone once, but they must have ruled his knees down before he crossed because we didn’t get credit for the TD. Jeremy Nethercuctt looked good running the ball on 2nd team.

Good experience for the Tomcats - Just what we needed at this point. I’m glad that we traveled to northern KY and scrimmaged a big school.

Good luck to the Camels this year.
