What does North Laurel need to do to improve in 2007? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

Come on North fans show some love for your Jags. No posts in 24 hours. This lack of empathy for this program is the problem. Your cross town rivals would have filled up one page of posts in 24 hours. Show that you know that you have a football team. Your kids deserve a little interest.

The South fans may fill up more posts, but North did beat them this past year, at South, by 2 scores.

North has traditionally hitched their wagons to one horse over the years (Durham, Blair, Cessna) and when the horse was healthy, they were a good team in their district. However, when Cessna was injured in 2005, the season went 'south' (pardon the pun) and the playoff run ended. To get back to the playoffs, the Jaguars need to:

- Continue to build numbers (which Abbott has done a great job at)

- Use the young talent they have and look towards more platooning and less ironman football

- Improve the lineplay on both sides of the ball

- Recruit the hallways to get these bigger kids wandering the halls on the gridiron

- Find more than 1-2 options on offense to make them less predictable

I think the Jags will have a much better season in their new 5A district.

There is a North fan. You have produced some good players over the years but haven't seemed to be able to substain momentum from year to year. I believe a little push from the administration and community would help energize the kids.

I agree 110%. We have never shown the same support as South Laurel in many aspects over the years in the sports programs. The funny thing is that contrary to popular opinion, since the split in 1992, North Laurel has more athletic state titles than South Laurel yet the Cardinal fans consistently show more spirit and support for their athletic programs.

The new principal (former softball coach Jimmy Durham) at NLHS is a very big supporter of the athletics and I think you will see a big difference going forward. If the new AD is at least 1/2 as dedicated as the AD who just left for the job at UAB, I think you will see the spirit and support continue to grow.

How do you know that the "cross town rivals" would have filled a page up? Please don't turn this thread into a NL vs/ SL thread.

I went and watched the Blue/White spring scrimmage. What impresses me at this point was some of the hitting. There were some NASTY hits yesterday. A lot of excitement on both sides of the ball. There were several kids not dressed for the scrimmage, but with only next year's Sophs/Jrs/Srs playing, the numbers were good as well. It looks like Abbott is trying to platoon to keep the troops fresh. I thought the defense was well ahead of the offense (as is usually the case in the spring), but the offense had some nice plays as well. With their new district, the Jags may surprise some people.

How did Wardrup play?

He didn't. He was one of several Jags who did not participate in spring ball. He and the others were there, but did not play.

Denver Tyree (sr to be) played with more intensity than I have seen him play before. Kevin Baer (jr to be) looked solid. Ryan Brandenburg and the defense was laying some wood. They won on the points system that Coach Abbott came up with 7-5. The offense was awarded points for first downs, scores, etc. The defense was awarded points for holding for not allowing first downs, turnovers, etc. The offense had 1 really good drive to open the scrimmage, but could not punch it in. From that point on, it was dominated by the defense. However, in spring ball, this is pretty par for the course. Timmy Wampler (jr to be) looked solid on the line and the Jags need he and a few others to step up to improve over last season.

I am a North fan. Didn't get to attend the blue/white scrimmage, but heard some good things about it. Heard that Ryan Brandenburg and Steven White were pretty dominate on defense. Also heard while Wardrup did not play, Justin Jones stepped up at the qb position and did some pretty good things. Heard he was impressive running the ball and making good decisions, and can take some pretty nasty hits.

I think with a few changes, that I won't disclose, the Jags could be a team to watch out for in 2007.

North and Whitley have a really big chance to dominate this district for a while if they can both continue to build their programs.

I think the passion and energy Coach Abbott has invested in this program makes its future exciting, with a number of players able to contribute big on a team that seemingly will only have one star, who is a dominant force on the defense. I can see a real lunchpail kind of club that can be highly successful if it can limit turnovers on offense.
