2nd Region: Week 8

Week in Review: 

Lyon County extended its winning streak to 9 games after taking care of Mayfield and Raceland in convincing fashion in the first two rounds of the All-A state tournament. Henderson County went 2-0 on the week, including a decisive 6th district win over Union County. Webster County went 2-0 on the week, one of those wins was against 2nd region foe UHA. Hopkinsville went 2-0 on the week and took control of the 8th district top seed by defeating Christian County.  Union County won its first round game in the Superman Classic in Metropolis, IL, but lost its second round game to Murray before falling in 6th district play to Henderson County.

Team Rankings:

1. Lyon County (15-5) - Lions roll into the Class A state final 4 with two big wins.  Lyon County’s size and length are creating havoc for teams.  Their half-court trapping defense is a problem that not many teams have an answer for. 

2. Henderson County (14-4) - The Colonels are winners of 7 of their last 8.  In Henderson’s last 3 games, they are holding opponents to just above 32 points per game. 

3. Webster County (15-6) - Webster is 10-2 in region play.  The Trojans' only two losses have come at the hands of 6th district opponents.  Based on the RPI ratings, the 6th district has 3 of the top 4 teams in Region 2 right now. 

4. Hopkinsville (14-9) - The Tigers are 4-0 in the 8th district, and their only 2 losses in the region are to Webster County and Lyon County.  With 4 players averaging double figures, Hopkinsville is a dangerous team down the stretch. 

5. Union County (13-7) - The Braves back to back losses didn’t drop them in the rankings this week.  They have a huge game on Friday at Webster County if they hope to maintain control of their own destiny for the top seed in the 6th district tournament. 

6. Hopkins County Central (11-5) - Two important district wins this week put the Storm in position for the top seed in the 7th district.  However, that could lead to a dangerous first-round matchup with a steadily improving Madisonville squad. 

7. Christian County (6-10) - The Colonels and UHA Blazers will both look to snap a 5 game losing streak as they play at Heights on Thursday, weather permitting. 

8. University Heights (5-10) - The Blazers will certainly be battle tested by district tournament time as they face Bowling Green, Christian Count and McCracken County this week.  Hopefully weather will allow at least two of those to be played. 

9. Livingston Central (9-7) After going 2-1 last week, the Cardinals move up the rankings this week.  

10. Caldwell County (8-9) The Tigers went 1-1 in district play last week.  They are set to play Trigg County and Madisonville this week.
