DevilMayCare
Round 2 Headlines • Atwell Quenches Playoff Thirst With 7-Up • Brown Not Content To Play Second Fiddle • Johnson Goes 2K ×2 First Team All-Watchlist Brady Atwell (Owensboro Catholic, QB) With a state championship the only missing ingredient from a stellar resumé, Atwell is reaching back to last year's absurd level of play as he narrows his focus. He totalled seven combined touchdowns against Murray, his first such performance this year after achieving that number three times during last season's run to Lexington. Last week's seven included a career high four on the ground. Any time a player hits the century mark for career touchdowns, it's newsworthy, both in here and beyond. Atwell is closing in on doubling that number, currently sitting at 189 career touchdowns accounted for. Graphic taken from x/twitter. Season To Date: 194/287 for 2,883 yards and 41 TDs with 5 INTs | 488 rushing yards and 16 TDs Second Team All-Watchlist Demauriah Brown (Boyle County, ATH) Why should Quisenberry have all the fun? Brown is equally capable of generating buzz for the Rebels, flashing a star turn against Frederick Douglass before some light work last week. He was back at it against Letcher County Central, rushing for a Boyle County career high 237 yards and a pair of touchdowns on just twelve carries. He topped that yardage total a couple of times in his past life as an Admiral. Further cementing his place as the best player on the field against LCC, he led the Rebels in tackles with 10 and recorded his second interception of the season. Boyle presents the ultimate pick your poison quandary. One way or another, Brown and/or Quisenberry will light you up. Season to date: 110 carries for 1,344 yards and 16 TDs | 2 receiving TDs | 35 tackles | 2 INTs Third Team All-Watchlist Jarren Johnson (Union County, ATH) Like a runaway locomotive, Johnson is building a head of steam that's made him impossible to ignore, despite being tucked away in a western corner of the state. A week after hanging 323 yards of offense on Glasgow, he dropped 235 more on Adair County. His 157 rushing yards eased him past 2,000 for the season. He's now reached that milestone two years in a row. Johnson's legs justifiably get most of the pub, but he got an opportunity to show off his arm, uncorking a dart to the endzone on 4th and 22 for a touchdown. Throw in his second interception of the season for a well rounded game. Season to date: 187 carries for 2,004 and 35 TDs | 482 passing yards and 5 TDs | 38 tackles | 2 INTs Honorable Mention Luke Pennington (Sayre, QB) One of the season's more absorbing individual subplots has reached its conclusion. Pennington was picked off not once, but twice, by Paris. They're the first interceptions he's thrown in nearly two years. The scales were ultimately tipped in his favor by the five touchdown passes he threw to help defeat the Greyhounds. Season to date: 159/198 for 2,403 yards and 47 TDs with 2 INTs | 3 rushing TDs | 1 INT Jack James (Paducah Tilghman, QB) The first to 50. James threw five touchdown passes against John Hardin to surpass the fifty touchdown mark for the second straight season. Season to date: 251/365 for 3,430 yards and 52 TDs with 7 INTs | 5 rushing TDs Kade Elam (Corbin, QB) Elam got in on the party, throwing five touchdown passes of his own against Wayne County. Season to date: 180/234 for 3,144 yards and 38 TDs with 3 INTs | 293 rushing yards and 10 TDs Highlights: vs. Wayne County Clay Hayden (Beechwood, QB) Hayden was overshadowed slightly by teammate Chase Flaherty's six touchdowns against Breathitt County, but 300+ yards and three touchdown passes are more than enough to earn a spot in here again. Season to date: 147/214 for 2,450 yards with 41 TDs and 5 INTs Brock Coffman (Sayre, ATH) Coffman continues to show why he's the most dynamic talent in 1A and arguably the best receiver in the state. He roasted Paris for 176 yards and three touchdowns on eleven catches and snagged his fifth interception of the season. Season to date: 79 receptions for 1,323 yards and 24 TDs | 2 KR TD | 44 tackles | 5 INTs including a pick-six Highlights: vs. Paris Brenden Anthony (Pikeville, RB/LB) Anthony posted 181 yards from scrimmage (119 rushing/62 receiving) and four touchdowns against Paintsville. Season to date: 125 carries for 1,121 yards and 12 TDs | 210 receiving yards and 3 TDs | 121 tackles | 12 TFL | 2 sacks Highlights: Regular season
Statsdontlie
Could you imagine the stats Montavin Quisenberry and Demauriah Brown would have if they played whole games throughout the year. I think not having huge numbers will hurt both of them.
