Ashland and Boyd County are slated to meet in a 64th District showdown. 
Several 16th Region teams are poised to compete in key district games. In addition, the 16th Region All "A" Classic is set. 
A look around the 16th Region, including a Week 6 review and rankings, follows. 
1. Ashland (11-4): The Tomcats claimed a pair of wins, topping Spring Valley (W.Va.) and knocking off reigning state champion Highlands. Ashland pulled away to defeat Highlands 75-57 on Saturday, Jan. 8. The Tomcats have upcoming games scheduled versus Boyd County, Bracken County and Huntington (W.Va.). 
2. Boyd County (12-2): The Lions rolled past Fairview 83-43 in a 2022 debut. Boyd County has won two of its last three games. The Lions are scheduled to visit rival Ashland before hosting Lawrence County and West Carter during the week ahead. 
3. Bath County (14-1): Adding two more wins to its record, Bath County beat Robertson County and Powell County. The Wildcats have claimed 13 straight wins. Bath County has upcoming games scheduled versus Menifee County and Pendleton County. 
4. Fleming County (9-4): The Panthers defeated Ryle in a 2022 debut. Fleming County has won four of its last six games. The Panthers' schedule includes games versus Bluegrass United, Rowan County and Augusta during the week ahead. 
5. Russell (8-3): The Red Devils continued to win, defeating East Carter 55-34. Russell has won eight of its last nine games. The Red Devils have upcoming games scheduled versus Morgan County and Greenup County. 
6. Elliott County (8-2): The Lions remained in the win column, defeating Greenup County. Elliott County compiled an 8-2 record through its first 10 games in the 2021-22 season. The Lions are set to face Rose Hill Christian in the opening round of the 16th Region All "A" Classic. 
7. Rowan County (6-10): Splitting its first two games, Rowan County knocked off Pike County Central in a 2A Sectional game before losing to Magoffin County. Rowan County has lost six of its last eight games. The Vikings have upcoming games scheduled versus Fleming County and Campbell County. 
8. West Carter (4-6): The Comets made a solid debut in 2022, defeating visiting Morgan County. West Carter compiled a 4-6 record through its first 10 games in the 2021-22 season. Among the teams poised to compete in the 16th Region All "A" Classic, West Carter has another upcoming game scheduled at Boyd County. 
9. Greenup County (6-7): The Musketeers notched a win over Macon County (Tenn.) before losing to Elliott County. Greenup County has dropped three of its last four games. The Musketeers have upcoming games scheduled versus East Carter, Russell and Green (Ohio). 
10. Raceland (6-7): The Rams defeated Rose Hill Christian before suffering a COVID loss to Simon Kenton. Raceland is slated to remain sidelined until Tuesday, Jan. 18. 
11. Fairview (4-11): The Eagles dropped a game to Boyd County. Fairview's upcoming schedule includes a matchup versus Iroquois, an opponent set to make the trek from Louisville. 
12. Lewis County (3-10): The Lions suffered a COVID loss to Paintsville. Lewis County is scheduled to meet Lawrence County in an upcoming game. 
13. East Carter (1-8): Dropping its first game in the new year, East Carter lost to Russell. The Raiders' upcoming schedule includes games versus Greenup County, Morgan County and Rose Hill Christian. 
14. Menifee County (7-8): The Wildcats from Frenchburg claimed a win over Morgan County. Menifee County has upcoming games scheduled versus Bath County and Prestonsburg. 
15. Morgan County (1-10): The Cougars dropped back-to-back games to Menifee County and West Carter. Morgan County has upcoming games scheduled versus Russell, East Carter and Rose Hill Christian. 
16. Rose Hill Christian (1-13): The Royals suffered back-to-back losses, dropping games to Raceland and Teays Valley Christian (W.Va.). Rose Hill has upcoming games scheduled versus Elliott County, East Carter and Morgan County.
