Boys' high school basketball teams from throughout the 16th Region are preparing to compete in holiday tournaments.
In addition, several 16th Region boys' basketball teams competed in holiday tournaments before Christmas. 
A look around the 16th Region follows. 
 
1. Ashland (6-4): The Tomcats topped Fairdale before falling to George Rogers Clark in the King of the Bluegrass during Week 4 of the 2021-22 boys' high school basketball season. Shorthanded in the loss to George Rogers Clark, Ashland will look to bounce back in the opening round of its annual tournament. The Tomcats are scheduled to host Calloway County in the first round of the Ashland Invitational Tournament on Tuesday, Dec. 28. 
 
2. Boyd County (10-0): Moving to 10-0, Boyd County claimed back-to-back wins over Rose Hill Christian and Ironton (Ohio). The Lions are matched up against Lincoln County in the opening round of the Ashland Invitational Tournament on Tuesday, Dec. 28. 
 
3. Bath County (9-1): Continuing to excel, Bath County notched wins over Smithville (Miss.), Owen County and Spencer County on its way to claiming a Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic championship. The Wildcats are scheduled to host Jenkins in the opening round of the Dan Swartz Classic on Tuesday, Dec. 28.
 
4. Fleming County (7-2): The Panthers haven't played since Saturday, Dec. 18. Fleming County has won six of its last seven games. The Panthers are scheduled to face Collins in the opening round of the Mason County Invitational on Tuesday, Dec. 28. 
 
5. Rowan County (4-7): The Vikings dropped three games in the Legacy Nissan Dribble Drive Challenge, losing to South Laurel, Harlan and Rockcastle County. Rowan County is set to meet East Jessamine in the first round of the Central Bank Jim Rose Classic at Lexington Christian Academy on Tuesday, Dec. 28. 
 
6. Russell (5-2): The Red Devils notched wins over Raceland and Ironton (Ohio). Russell is on a five-game winning streak after opening the season 0-2. The Red Devils are set to face Estill County in the opening round of the Dan Swartz Classic at Bath County on Tuesday, Dec. 28. 
 
7. Elliott County (5-1): The Lions haven't played since Saturday, Dec. 18. Elliott County is due to face Powell County in the Dan Swartz Classic at Bath County on Tuesday, Dec. 28. 
 
8. West Carter (2-4): The Comets dropped a game on the road at Magoffin County. West Carter is scheduled to meet Ryle in the Bath County-hosted Dan Swartz Classic on Tuesday, Dec. 28.  
 
9. Greenup County (5-4): The Musketeers haven't played since Saturday, Dec. 18. Greenup County is scheduled to compete in the South Central Bank Halton Classic at Allen County-Scottsville Tuesday, Dec. 28-Thursday, Dec. 30. 
 
10. Raceland (3-6): The Rams dropped back-to-back games to Russell and Lawrence County during their Deby Classic. Raceland is slated to host South Gallia (Ohio) and East Carter for upcoming games, Thursday, Dec. 30 and Friday, Dec. 31, respectively. 
 
11. Fairview (3-9): The Eagles dropped games to out-of-state opponents Notre Dame (Tenn.), South Pontotoc (Miss.) and Burton (Va.) during the Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic. Fairview has upcoming games scheduled versus St. Joseph Central (W.Va.) and Dawson-Bryant (Ohio). 
 
12. Lewis County (2-8): The Lions dropped a game to former state title contender Scott County. Lewis County is scheduled to visit Pendleton County on Tuesday, Dec. 28. 
 
13. East Carter (0-6): The Raiders haven't been on the court for a game since Saturday, Dec. 18 and remain winless. East Carter has upcoming games on tap versus familiar foes Rose Hill Christian and Raceland. 
 
14. Morgan County (1-8): The Cougars dropped a game to Buckhorn. Morgan County is scheduled to visit 16th Region rival Menifee County for its next game on Monday, Jan. 3. 
 
15. Menifee County (3-7): Following a loss to Montgomery County, Menifee County claimed back-to-back wins over St. Patrick and Nicholas County. After showing much improvement, Menifee County is scheduled to compete in the Pineville-hosted Chain Rock Classic, Tuesday, Dec. 28-Thursday, Dec. 30, starting with a matchup versus Phelps. 
 
16. Rose Hill Christian (1-9): The Royals dropped back-to-back games, falling to Boyd County and Floyd Central. Rose Hill Christian has upcoming games scheduled versus East Carter and St. Joseph Central (W.Va.).
