If you've been living under a rock for the first half of the year, you may be unaware that Bob Sphire has taken the reins of Highlands football to try and restore the luster to one of Kentucky's Mount Rushmore football programs. His arrival immediately instilled excitement and belief that the Bluebirds will return to title contention sooner rather than later.

But what about the immediate future, as in this year? Is a deep playoff run within reason? That would mean turning back the tide against CovCath.

We won't have to wait long to get an idea of what type of squad Sphire has assembled in year one. The Birds migrate far from home to open the season in Bowling Green against the defending 5A champs.

Highlands won't be in contention for a title in 2021, IMO.

I agree. I do think winning the district could be right at their fingertips, and depending on how the RPI plays out, I wouldn't be surprised to see them in the semifinals. At that point, I think they run into someone out of reach, like Douglass.

Don’t sleep on the Birds.  They are light years ahead of last year!  I agree that there is some talented teams at the very top; however I certainly believe they can play with them.  Some senior leaders are showing the next two classes what it takes to be great and Coach Sphire will have it clicking on all cylinders very soon.  Many will be surprised this year and watch out the following two.  This I know.

I don't think there is any doubt Coach Sphire could have Highlands "back" in a few years.

I know in previous posts/threads there were statements about some shifting of positions where players were in the past to where they are being plugged for this upcoming season. Anyone have any info on any major changes of note yet? Or is it still up in the air?

Looking forward to my trip to BG!

I still think the jury is still out.  I think July will be the indicator.   I would expect at least a handful seeing action on both sides of the ball.  Bibb, Kissee, schwalbach, LaFrange to name a few.  I ton of competition in the WR spots as well as OLB.  On offense there is probably 6 or 7 in the mix, 2 TE, Qb and RB that you can safely guess depth chart.  It will be interesting.  Some have attended college camps.  7 on 7 coming as well.  Good to see track and baseball boys back in

Hearing about 140 kids at camp and the attitude around the program and the community is markedly different.  Just need to take each day as it comes and go from there.
